Presenting this as a matter of respecting 'feelings' or making accommodations for one another doesn't get us anywhere.
It's just as reasonable to ask the student to respect the feelings of the teacher as to ask the reverse; the feelings are clearly equally deeply held.
You've made a value judgement on which party's feelings are more important - nothing wrong with that, but don't pretend otherwise.
It's not just as reasonable at all. Equating the distress caused to a vulnerable teenager at a difficult time in their life, because of a lack of basic decency and empathy, to the supposed right of a religious fundamentalist, in a position of authority, to inflict their intolerance on that teenager just because they can? Really....?
Are you really claiming that it's a deeply held value of this teacher to insist on calling a certain child by the name on their birth cert - while they're already probably calling other kids by names other than on their birth certs?
If that really causes distress or anger to that teacher then they and everyone else is better off if they leave that profession for good.

You also mentioned that he humiliated the child at the school event. Was the child in attendance at the event? I didn't realise that was the case. Very difficult for a child to deal with all that.
It wasn't clear if the child themselves were at the event, but it was known that there were students at the event as many of them walked out.
That would make his position untenable on the spot, regardless of what avenues he persued to vindicate himself.
If the students themselves reject him and his views and refuse to be taught by him then he'll find himself sitting in an empty classroom even if he wins the court cases.
Other staff walked out as well.
Thats the thing though, there is no court case per se.

Its the second one where I'm guessing he'll be given enough rope and facilitate his own removal, in much the same way as other members of the family have screwed themselves over with their own particular brand of delusion and righteousness

He'll also likely face action from the Teaching Council who may remove his license to teach and he'll take them to court too.
He won't win any of them though
As sure as God made small apples he will be taking to school to court, and if he loses, he will appeal, and again, then his loon mother will shout at the Judge. Rinse and repeat.
Its not going to end well for him no matter what he does, I reckon the school will let him go under gross misconduct grounds.
Failure to adbide to a high court order and bringing the school into dis -repute and degrading the moral ethos of the school and the student and principal at the event dinner.

There will be a lot disappointed people on this thread when this lad gets out, he will be making a lot more than some teacher, that is for sure.
I think most people will be happy that he won't be teaching in your average ordinary secondary school!

Does anyone care what he is paid? And have they ever given the impression that money is their motivation? I am open to correction, but Ammi wanted her job back, not a pay out in the WRC.

I'd prefer if they weren't getting money indirectly from the State to teach Irish children however.

Whilst there is doubtless money to be made from the evangelical 'right-wing grift', I wouldn't just assume that it's something he can slot into seamlessly.
It's a crowded playing field, in which the vast majority seem to live a hand-to-mouth existence. I'm no expert, just from what I've observed on various youtube podcasts from Moms basement, or a token investigation of some of the Jan 6th leaders who don't scream affluence.
Those who do make money seem to have a certain charm - excellent oratory, smooth, ability to motivate people, good social skills. I'd have doubts whether Enoch has any of that.
There aren't enough gullible idiots in Ireland to keep them funded for very long, and I doubt they have the charisma to attract American cash.

Is Mr Burke is due back in court today? He may well choose to stand over his actions and remain in jail.
A long term contempt jailing is possible. The Rossport Five refused to purge their contempt and were released when Shell withdrew the application that jailed them. Oddly enough Shell was found guilty of contempt later in that long running saga.
Mr Burke may choose to defend disciplinary and any further action from prison. Teacher disciplinary and dismissal action is an involved procedural process and can be the basis of procedural challenge as much as substantive. The outcome may be that the only way Mr Burke leaves jail is if he has been dismissed and the original grounds for committal are not applicable.
I think there is the potential for worse outcomes. I hope for an external intervention for everyone’s sake.
Would he be taking them to court - or to the Workplace Relations Commission? His family have form there. Maybe he could get Ammi to represent him...
or bring his mammy along.
She has been unemployable since apparently, she could do with the work.
