I’m saying that the scum will attack anyone. Sexuality, skin colour, religion has absolutely zero bearing on it.
Perhaps you might be better off informing yourself of what happened. to still be trotting out that line at this stage of the discussion is verging on trolling.
He is not in jail because he doesnt agree with the transgender issue. He's in jail because he wont comply with a court order.
That's not why he's in jail though is it?
Being homophobic is a sign of ignorance, not intelligence. And yes, yes they do care.
I see your point - it's an excuse, and if it wasn't homophobic, it would be racist or sexist or something else - but it's still hate crime.
The point your missing is the motive: people get beaten up all the time for the reason of being gay (universally speaking). Hardly anyone gets beaten up for the reason of being straight.
He's in jail because he defied a court injunction and when brought back in front of the judge said that he better send him to jail because he wouldn't be adhering to it.
That's the only reason he's in Mountjoy, regardless of any other elements of the story
while this is technically true. it doesn't accurately reflect the entire matter.
its started over his refusal to misgender a child and as the meme says "well that escalated quickly"
all of this is a result of that initial confrontation with the principal .
sure some of his behaviour can be frowned upon but who behaves 100% correctly in stressful situations.
frowned up? he interrupted a school celebration and continued to berate the principal after being told to stop. he was rightly suspended for that but still turned up at the school each day even after a court injunction barring him from doing so. this was continued poor behaviour not a one-off.
while this is technically true
Technically nothing. It's why he's in jail.
You could excuse 1 poor reaction, this is months of continued bad behaviour with moments of bullying, harassment and what appear to be psychological episodes.
You may try to excuse it, but few others will, especially the judge as evidenced by Enochs choice of breakfast location for the foreseeable future i.e. He told the judge, straight out, that he better lock him up because he had no intention of adhering to the injunction
and I salute him for it.
of course you do.
Which part are you saluting, just so we're clear
Bullying and harassing the principal?
Shouting and roaring about the circumstances of a child's decision in the middle of a church mass?
Ignoring the courts and getting thrown into jail?
Getting suspended from his employment?
what is not to admire seeing somebody stand up for their beliefs and repel all attackers.
see above.
i'd probably not do the middle of the church thing myself but as i said earlier (and you quoted the post) who behaves 100% correctly when stressed?
Its clear he is a committed teacher who is passionate about his role - having kids gone through the irish education system , that is not that common in my experience.
All Hail!
Isn’t someone out on a bail/suspended sentence who continues to break the law not complying with a court order? Very rarely will they see the inside of a cell.
"Burke harassed his boss at a public event to do with his job."
Think how ridiculous this reads - you don't get jailed for harassing your boss at public events. You might get fired, but as far as I know it's not a criminal matter to heckle or question your boss, is it? Might be inadvisable if certain people like Putin was your boss but that's hardly applicable here.
Yes his jailing stems from ignoring injunction but that follows from his dispute with principal.
He Didn't get jailed for harassing his boss at a public event though did he?
If everything had happened just the same in legal terms, except that originally the issue had been that the teacher was refusing to teach, say...evolution, or was insisting that interracial marriage was wrong or whatever, the thread would be completely different. If there was even a thread at all.
It's just another trans thread really.
what is there to admire in someone who thinks interrupting a school event and berating the principal is fine?
they will if they are caught. this idiot made it very easy for the courts to catch him.
For the few who seem to be struggling with the facts here, this solicitor explains it well

he was suspended for harassing the principal. they received a court injunction barring him from entering the premises while he was suspended. he decided to break that injunction. what is your issue with the actions of the school or court?
Mental reservation - that's the thing that lets Catholics tell bare-faced lies, isn't it? While still being true to their faith, apparently. 🙄
The chap deserves prison for contempt of court.
But I can see both sides here as regards his refusing to address a human as "they," or some other name. It's all just getting out of hand.
Thankfully you at least acknowledge that the welfare of a child is at the center of this situation even if you are twisting the narrative
Bollocks.
Trans women are women.
My local swimming pool has male and female changing rooms. Women bring their sons into the male changing room. Nobody bats an eyelid. Men bring their daughters into the male changing room, too. Nobody bats an eyelid. I've never been in the female changing room, but I imagine the toilet cubicles have doors on them, just like the ones in the men's toilets.
Nope.
The big question in this case is what the eff was Burke thinking, throwing a tantrum at a church service and then again at a reception, then breaking his suspension, then breaking a court injunction.
That's the case. Nothing else.
Again, not why they were put in jail.
What the **** is "stressful", for an evangelical Christian, about a church service? What exactly is "stressful", for a secondary school teacher, about a reception held after the church service?
What is he, some sort of snowflake?
I see the daily mail readers in the comments section are having a field day- vast majority on the side of the teacher- I wouldn’t waste my breath trying to explain what contempt of court is to them as they’ve already made up their minds

Was the suspension not because he refused to use the pronouns? The injunction etc was then sought due to his harassment via his behaviour at the school dinner/event?
That was my understanding of how the events unfolded. But I'm happy enough to be corrected, if I'm wrong.
