Hi lads,
I was just on three.ie website and noticed they have a new plan to compete against gomo and the rest. Unlimited 5g data, calls and texts for €15 every 28 days
https://www.three.ie/buy/prepay.html
Any affordable 5G sim card routers these days? thanks
Worth noting as well that the plan is only for new customers, you can't swap from another three plan to it. Also any out of bundle charges and rates are higher. Still a good value plan though
This is good news all round though. Why do three feel the need to compete with their own 48 subsidary which is attracting in the bargain hunters?
Eir have Gomo, Vodafone have clear (which has awful download speed caps) and three have 48. The cheap deals are now gone so it's 13-15 a month for any signups.
Postmobile speeds have gone dire in the last 3-4 months with no sign of improving so it would seem the best moves at present are gomo vs three for 15 (48 having roaming issues).
If you look at the terms and conditions it also mentions any network.
Good summary.
Tesco roaming seems quite poor as well.
Had no problem with roaming on An Post. In fact I had better data speeds away than at home.
I assume Three have been losing customers. The majority of people I knew on Three left it over the last few years.
my home is a black spot for all networks, so wifi calling is a huge advantage for me. For example, the doctors and lots of businesses will call and text me and I seriously need to get those calls. They won’t be calling me on WhatsApp.
Also, 2FA SMS delivery at home is a big one.
So, totally unlimited plan. Given the issues with other networks (48 roaming, no 5g etc.), is this now the best prepay offer out there?
When i click on the ad, it only shows other prepay plans, not the one in the ad??
It is saying at the top of the ad "all you can eat" - but then the €15 plan says 1gb, and the 5G is shown as add on...???
EDIT - FOUND THEM - AT THIS LINK UNDER "SIM ONLY" https://www.three.ie/content/3ie-wotf/buy/prepay.html#sim-only
Go to the SIM only tab. It’s only listed there for some reason.
Select SIM Only at the top of the screen.
Thanks and it's a great offer if you've access to 5g . I'm one of the lucky @€9.99 pm GoMo customers & have a €5 pm virgin media sim albeit 6 months almost up, just use in Router, could do without but it was astonishing Value & bizzarely faster speeds than 3 on 4g who I was with for years & works off 3's network.
What's the roadmap for Eir/Gomo rolling out 5g does anyone know?
Im thinking to switch to this deal from 48 as their roaming doesnt work in most places Ive been this year.
Does anyone know could I order new sim,try it and then switch my number to that sim I have received?
I remember I could switch at later date when I was switching to 48 last year.
I was on 3 site just know but live chat is off now.
Thanks
48 are saying their roaming will be fixed later this month so if you're on the legacy 7.99 deal Id wait and see what happens as that price is for life (or until they go bust). This 3 offer is 13 payments of 15 euro making it 195 a year so more than double a year with 48 which is 96 a year. If 48 sort out their roaming as promised then it wont be beaten
Im on 10.99 (up from 9.99 ) a month so my real saving would be ~ 63€ (5.25 a month) Not much if they wont solve roaming issues. My next trip is in 6 weeks if not sorted by then bye bye 48.
Eir already offer 5G but it’s pretty poor imo. Never got above 100mbps whereas their 4G was constantly over that. I’ve seen my Eir 5G as low as 3mbps.
On Vodafone I’ve gotten 400mbps+ on 5G and even 380mbps on 48.
This seems like a great offer from Three though. I’m on the original €8 48 deal. Going to wait and see do they get their roaming crap sorted in the next month or so as promised. If not I’d be tempted to move to this.
These for life prices really grind on our conscience. I was on the gomo 9.99 but it was awful where I lived so moved to post mobile. But it took alot of guilt to give up my "for life". So great strategy from these companies.
I was the same with 48. Took me having no data/service while roaming three times to say enough and move away from the €8 plan I was on from the start.
Moved to Eir, roaming for the summer holidays was great. Worked perfectly but noticed calls dropping and reverting to 3G a lot back home so after a few months with them checked out 48 again and somehow I could reorder a new SIM and port back in at the €8 deal. I’m hoping they sort out their roaming issues because other than that it’s been perfect for me. And I like the set price compared to what the other networks seems to be doing now, yearly increases of inflation + x% every year.
FYI, I tried 48 last winter and never bought a membership because PM was doing the business for me. Found the SIM, got onto CS who reactivated it and I found the 10.99 plan was available to me.
So then I went searching and found a SIM i tried a year previously and never bought a membership. Put it in, logged on and it was still active AND 7.99 was available to me. So if you're thinking of changing to three, search for an old SIM
The last time I was with Three ( about 2 years ago ) the 4G speeds were woeful @ ~ 2Mbit/sec v 50Mbit/sec Vodafone. Have things improved?
They were the worst network for speed back then...
Really depends where you are. I’ve been with both on and off over the years for work/personal and generally found 3 better in more places. Vodafone seems to have more poor reception areas in recent years. At least in my experience. Like right now, in my house in a built up area 3 is getting speeds of 200+ whereas Vodafone will barely get 1. Only for wifi calling I’d be lost.
Once the other networks start offering esim I’ll be looking around.
Kept this Gomo deal myself, only place I ever struggled for a signal was in the arsehole of Mayo, never any issues roaming, or up North so far...
5G isn't a deal breaker for me, my phone is 5G capable but I get great average speeds for my needs from Gomo (Eir)
Getting twice what my house router gets on a 4G plan 😂
For anyone looking for a router to work with this one.https://www.amazon.co.uk/Network-H112-370-2-3GBPS-External-Antennas-White/dp/B0B8T3155T/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=5g+router&qid=1662309147&sr=8-4
Does that device only work with Three UK sim cards? i.e. Are you sure it works with Three Ireland sim cards?
lycamobile are also 10/month for unlimited 5g data
Some irish buyer asked him the same question if you scroll down & he said it should if he offers a money back Garantee you could use paypal to pay for return postage.
I just signed up to this offer, did a speed test with 5G enabled and got download speed of 505mbps.
Three UK locked devices normally do not work with Three Ireland. I would be surprised if this is an exception.
Would be nice to hear about any other good value 5G routers.
You can't use PayPal to make payment on amazon
Got the 5g sim card and popped it into my 4g router. Works ok, but slower than the 4g sim card was giving me.
As mentioned above, would be keen to see what sort of deals might appear on a 5g router!
