Premiem Pellets have Oak 2m crate for €525 online with free nationwide delivery .Thats probably the best deal out there now from what l can see .
Finglas fuels 2m pallet gone from €445 to €575 in less than a month , seems to be price gouging going on everywhere .
yeah 525 with free delivery is probably as good as it gets. Will have a scan of the market over the weekend and then order Monday.
Finglas Fuels seem to have added 50 euro on to their 1.2m crates and 100 on to the 2m ones. Thus making it more expensive to buy bigger bulk which is unusual, you'd expect a better price by buying more of it but its not the case
2m3 crate at 575 euro is 287.50 per cubic metre
1.2m3 crate at 315 euro is 262.50 per cubic metre so cheaper than buying the larger amount
Northern Poland. Not without their own forestry issues in truth.
where is Poland?
It's east of Germany and west of Russia
Central Europe, where it's always been.
Has anyone bought from Premium Pellets? All good?

Ordered from them on Monday, received pallet on Wednesday. Premium pellets that is.
1m.cu. Crate Kiln Dried Hardwood Log
€299,00
Birch
From a local hardware shop. Less that 20% moisture. I’ve emailed them to ask about delivery so I presume there is a delivery fee on top of that price. Thoughts?
It’s a rip.
Put in my order from my local man yesterday, he’s a one man operation with his own solar kiln.
5 ton bags of kiln dried beech delivered for €400, that’s €60 more than last year.
I got 10 SQM of birch delivered
Had a look at what 2m3 of oak costs in Latvia where some of the firewood being sold here is coming from. 2m3 of oak is 225 euro plus 12% VAT so 252 total. Thats quite a difference from the 575-600 being charged here this winter
Thanks for your thoughts - I thought it was a good deal given the likes of 1.16m cu is €320 with premium pellets? I know delivery is included in that though. Can you give more info as to why it’s a rip off? I’m not sure the is better deals to be had given the price increase the past few weeks
Hard to know who's making the money without knowing what the wholesale price is to Irish distributors. No doubt many along the chain have upped their prices.
Quick question for consumers; what's a fair price for this type of wood collected?
20% moisture content, 1.2m loose, split ash. Fyi 1.2m loose equates to about 0.7m stacked.
what county?
yeah thats true but still an eye opener that 2m3 of oak is available for 250 quid in Latvia whereas the range here is 575-600 euro. I know shipping costs have gone up but AFAIK a 40ft container from there to here is around 1,200 euro and they have a capacity of 66 cubic metres so they could fit around 30 2m crates inside. If thats the case then the freight on each pallet is around 40 euro to get it from Latvia to an Irish port. So perhaps about 300 euro landed to an Irish port per 2m3 crate.
Are u suggestion we group together and get a container full???
Indeed and every goddamned disease those trees might have.
25 serious tree pests and diseases since 2000. Prior to that we had 2 or 3 minor usually tree specific diseases.
haha now you're thinking=) Its not a bad idea but I think the only way something like that could work is for all buyers to be in the same geographical area like Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and for everyone to be able to accept the delivery within a 1-3 day time frame. If you had that then you could subcontract an insured distribution company to deal with it from the port to being delivered probably for around 50-60 euro per drop if they knew they could get about 15 drops a day in the same geographical area. In theory its possible but you would need all buyers to be in the same area otherwise costs would go way up.
I'm in cork and will take 4 crates anyway
If it was that simple you'd think every fuel distributor in the country would be selling these crates but it seems to be just a few between co-op's, TJ O Mahony's Finglas fuels and I think someone has mentioned Coughlans in Cork. Not to knock your idea but it also seems that these suppliers are showing some of their product currently out of stock.
€150 collected seems fair enough. Very hard to say.
In the US they sell by the Cord or face Cord. One face Cord is 4ft high 8ft long and 16inch logs. There are 3 facecords in a Cord. This seems a much better way to advertise and sell wood.
At least with the stacked pallets you can equate these in such a way.
I've used both TJ O'Mahoneys and Stakelums for delivery to Limerick. Both provide a good service and I just go with whichever is cheaper.. Note Stakelums tend to be cheaper but have a higher delivery charge so factor that in.
How does the cost work out in comparison to burning coal, is it for a stove or open fire?
yeah but a few of them are getting them from Latvia (I asked my fuel merchant last year and thats where he gets his from which is why I went scouting around the Latvian market to see prices.) and they can be got from there for about 125 euro per 1m3 crate or 250 euro for 2m3.
The bigger problem though with organsing a group buy is co-ordinating up to 15 people all in the same geographical area to accept delivery within a 1 to 3 day time frame, as soon as one person pipes up and says they cant accept deivery on X day then youre in trouble with the transport company and costs go up. Plus everyone would have to pay upfront to get them on a ship from Latvia. While it would be a fair saving over the 575 being charged for 2m3 here it also wouldnt be hassle free for the person organising it. If a few people said they need multiple crates to split between friends and familly then that would make it a lot easier dealing with 3 or 4 people rather than 15. I see @bailey99 said he would take 4 which is great but hes in Cork whereas Im in Wicklow. For delivery purposes it would have to be a 30 mile radiius or transport companies wouldnt touch it.
Stove and I've no idea. I've never bought coal. Only had a gas fireplace in the previous house which we never used.
Pallet network take it into a warehouse no?
