The n73 waterdyke to clogher cross has a contractor appointed anyone know anymore about it , whose the contractor or is there a start date?
N74 Ballyhusty
Anyone pass this recently? It must be nearly finished at this stage.
It's coming along nicely, due to finish in October
Cheers steeler j. Used to be a regular route for me but hadn't been that way in years before earlier this year. Not a big scheme but a few very annoying bends out of the way now.
2nd case of this being done at a lethal junction in Mayo. I wonder will they expand it to other counties.
Indeed.
I could think of several other junctions where this would be of great benefit.
N13 for one, at Newtowncunnigham.
Pavement works on the n24 through Carrick on suir to begin soon . The works are expected to be 18 months , GLAS civil engineering are the contractor.
MAJOR road upgrade here. Don't know if I should post this in the 'minor upgrade' section or if it deserves its own page???!!!.....
The local residents must be über excited to see this upgrade completed.
(R102 near Pellotstown)

Anybody have any update on the N61 Tulsk to Clashaganny upgrade, haven't seen anything since perferred route selection in 2020.
When it comes to rural road upgrades (including secondaries) there is almost nothing ever. It just appears. Look at the other threads where work just magically starts (evantually)
Not much of an upgrade. Road wasn't widened and although a wall was constructed on one side they didn't add a footpath!
Contract awarded officially to Sorensons today. Expected to be complete within 12 months.
Another septic heap of road off the map. 3.5kms of it.
Thanks . It's shockingly bad , passed there a few times in a truck and it's terrible tight
Is it just me or do some areas get much more focus than others?
there’s been a few schemes on the N72 between Mallow and Fermoy. However, the N72 between Fermoy and Tallow is in a decrepit state and yet nothing ever happens on this stretch.
I can think of numerous realignment required. In addition, the road surface is basically falling apart in one section for over 2km. It’s truly awful.
That’s a relic of the old days when County Councils managed the national roads. Cork County Council never had much interest in a road that really only serves settlements in West Waterford - you’ll notice how the surfacing improves dramatically once you enter Co. Waterford.
Apart from poor maintenance, N72 in East Cork isn’t actually that bad in terms of geometry and sight-lines. Unlike the lethal Mallow-Fermoy stretch, it’s not heavily trafficked. The road is busier once you get into Waterford, but it’s mostly well maintained. It definitely does need realigning in a few places - Tallow, of course, but also around Cappoquin - but that’s not going to be cheap.
There are 2 very poor alignments on this section of road.
And that’s excluding the “Sweep” section just after Tallow.
The surface between Coolrue and Shanacoole is also a disgrace. Car breaking.
The other option is to bin the current section of N72 entirely and instead upgrade the R666.
Couple of updates on Mayo schemes:
• Tender assessment ongoing for N60 Heathlawn scheme with contractor to be appointed in September 2022.
• N26 / N59 Ballina By -Pass is at Phase 2 route option stage with preferred route to be identified in Q4 2022. Public consultation to be held in September 2022.
• Contract documents for the N59 Newport – Derrada scheme undergoing final review which will be followed with a request to TII to proceed to tender.
Passed it yesterday , a lot of work done and looking brilliant. Tarmac , landscaping and barriers been done.
Thanks. Actually happened by chance to pass by it last week also. Coming int the final stages of it. Very minor scheme (not even long enough to call a scheme really!!) but a few bad bends off the list.
Bearys cross , Sorensons supposed to be awarded the contract. 4..5 million
No supposed to be about it. Work has already started and is due to be completed by next June.
Tower junction on the N24 is expected to start construction in Q1 2023
Great news. Now if only they'd do the improvements around Mooncoin as well.
Preferred bidder selected for the N60 Heathlawn project. Contract to be signed next month.
Nice video of the bridge construction on the R312 Glenisland realignment in Mayo:
I can't find any information whatsoever on this. Minor roadworks on N63 in East Galway near Mountbellew.
Any advice where to find?
It's pavement works, a grant of E1.56m is included in the TII allocations for Co Galway for 2022.
Just a basic resurface?
Is there any requirement to include active travel path when carrying out roadworks on Primary roads?
They have added a cycleway on another section of N63 nearby, which starts and ends nowhere. Would be nice to see the whole road gradually upgraded to include the active travel path.
Thanks for this info btw. I found information on TII regarding the funding, but can't find any information at all about the works.
It's 2022. Is there any chance an article about roadworks could not lead with the traffic disruption it might cause? Maybe talk up a few benefits?
