It's east of Germany and west of Russia
where is Poland?
Northern Poland. Not without their own forestry issues in truth.
yeah 525 with free delivery is probably as good as it gets. Will have a scan of the market over the weekend and then order Monday.
Finglas Fuels seem to have added 50 euro on to their 1.2m crates and 100 on to the 2m ones. Thus making it more expensive to buy bigger bulk which is unusual, you'd expect a better price by buying more of it but its not the case
2m3 crate at 575 euro is 287.50 per cubic metre
1.2m3 crate at 315 euro is 262.50 per cubic metre so cheaper than buying the larger amount
Premiem Pellets have Oak 2m crate for €525 online with free nationwide delivery .Thats probably the best deal out there now from what l can see .
Finglas fuels 2m pallet gone from €445 to €575 in less than a month , seems to be price gouging going on everywhere .
I think a lot of the klin dried crates are coming from Latvia or Lithuania where they have big forests of mature hardwood. There is one seller out there who sells olive that comes from western Africa
Yes I know, we are very short sighted when it comes to these things
Where does TJ get his wood
Monahans in Straffan deliver nationwide but their 1.2m crates (might even be gone down to 1.1m) are insane in price, 370 for oak. Check is there a Co-op near you. There is also a company called Surefirewood based in Fermanagh who will deliver to Donegal, they do big bags of wood through rather than crates
ah bollox I was literally going to ring an order myself Monday as Ive only finally got the log store sanded down and varnished so its ready to be filled up. Its gone up from 475 to 575 for a 2m3 crate which is insane, it had already gone from 450 to 475 just a few weeks ago.
Whats your local and what are they charging?
TJOMahony's doesn't come from Eastern Europe, does come from Europe though. We're a half century off having enough hardwood to harvest in this country, and that's if we pivoted land use today.
has pallet truck
Ah ffs, finglas gone up 100 for the 2m crate.was just about to phone through an order. Dearer than my local now.
20 delivery extra for O Mahony. Bringing the total to 110 more than last year. Very good fuel though.
Does anyone know does the Finglas delivery guy have a pallet truck? Need to run them around the back lane
I ordered half pallet of Pinkay eco logs from Premium pellets, 58 packs on the pallet so worked out just under €7 per pack delivered.
fuel miles, less environmentally friendly , pity you can't source an irish product like this with the jobs etc that go with it
fuel security given the current state of eastern europe and thus cost
50 euro increase from yesterday more like
Why does that matter ?
https://finglasfuels.ie/logs-for-sale-dublin/
Listed as €315 now, €50 hike since last week I think?
Which is better value for a wood burning stove now? 1.2m crate from Finglas Fuels or the Beech crate from TJ O'Mahony?
the only pity is all these places selling the wood are getting it from eastern europe
Got another load of logs from Finglas Fuels for the parents this time. According to the lady on the phone they are selling like hotcakes. She really is a lovely lady to deal with. Unpacked this crate too and can confirm the consistency and quality of the logs. God knows what they will cost next year though... :(
got the 1.2 crate also, decent quality at a decent price, easy to deal with and quick delivery
Looking at getting some firewood to go with coal in an open fire. Thinking of a 1.2m (or 2+m) crate of hardwood. Any recommendations for a suitable firewood deal for an open fire. Based in Donegal, so nationwide delivery required.
Has anyone seen red net bags of logs on offer. They used to be 3 for 10e.
Got the Finglas fuels 1.2m3 crate of ash and oak delivered at the weekend. TJ OMahoney's beech crate just got too expensive (50% price increase on last year!).
Had to take the wood out in the driveway and restack it in back on the old crate from last year. Can confirm the stack is a mixture of types of wood (presumably ash and oak, but what would I know?!). Had to take the axe to about a dozen pieces of uncut wood with a diameter of about 10cms. A couple of fairly rotten looking logs, but otherwise a good load of timber. If you can get your hands on a wheelbarrow for shifting between the two crates it makes life much easier.
Depends what you are after, I think Finglas Fuels still seem to be the cheapest for a 1.2m3 crate of kiln dried ash or oak at 265 euro delivered in the Dublin area. Other places like Monahans in Straffan are charging 370 for the same quantity of oak delivered in Dublin and they dont even have stocks of it right now. Have never ordered from Finglas Fuels myself before but likely will soon if nothing cheaper comes along. Im not expecting any better deal to come along as prices are only going one way this winter
Thanks everyone will go with the crate and will Empty and refill. Give the teenagers something to do! Any recommendations - s, Dublin based .
Yes storing wood in a bag would be a disaster for holding moisture
And unlike the bag, in the crate, the air circulates, so no damp rot, and drier block's. Stack mine willy-nilly against the shed wall, and they keep perfectly.
Depends on the price of the bag.
Bags of wood are not good value because it’s 30% air, you are better off getting a tightly stacked crate delivered and if the crate fits in the shed then empty said crate and refill
Thanks. Interested in getting one of the super jumbo bags. Would be storing it in a shed at end of the back garden. Have a side passage. Just wondering about delivery - presume they would leave the bag in the drive way so wondering the best way of transporting to the shed - 3 steps involved also. would I store in a big bag in the shed? Novice bulk buyer as you can tell 🤣 thanks in advance!
