The above map is from a Russian source, so likely a best case scenario from their side. I've not seen a single substantive thing come from Ukraine. A few videos of them in action, but no clues as to the current state of play. We're just going to have to wait and see how this all plays out.
The one thing that worries me what happens if we're still here in a month with the Ukraine only making minor gains, but at a terrible cost. I fear we're in for a long and bloody stalemate.
Which is absolutely fine and legal (despite what the Brexity brigade would have you believe). EU member states are perfectly free to enforce their external (non EU) borders whatever way they choose and don't need to run it past the European Commission first.
Its not going to be a stalemate, they are moving in on all fronts with the goal of heading for Crimea by the sounds of it ,by all accounts the orcs are getting hammered with little artillery or air support while ukraine are hitting them 24/7
Not to mention Kim Jug Onion who studied in the west.
Security is very much not an eu concern and a very good case can be made that Russian tourists pose a security problem, I can’t think of any other country whose tourists have take over likes Crimea or go around carrying novichok or polonium
Takes to long time to remove the ammo, military vehicles and planted explosives i guess
Its always easier to defend, than to attack, thats why the training Ukraines soldiers are getting in the UK is crucial for their counter offensive.
And not atleast have enough equipment, ammo, reinforcements and supplies
Logistics wins wars
And you would expect higher casualties from Ukraines side now
Its going to be a terrible cost regardless - even against incompetent Russians, an offensive move at this scale on very flat open terrain is going to incur heavy losses even when you succeed.
These will likely be the deadliest weeks for Ukraine and Russia since the war began. Big drive on for blood donations in Odessa to help the wounded. Can't imagine residents of Kherson will be doing the same unless at gunpoint
Let them have all the Russian "tourists" so.
Delighted the war is going so badly for Putin that he's had to resort to his one trick pony... turning off the gas. He must be desperate.
They need huge supplies from the west so they can blast the Russians out without too many casualties. I'm sure the west understands that.
I am curious as to know what your timeframe is for Ukrainian forces to reach the Crimea border?
EU visa deal agreed, but not full ban.
German General Eberhard Zorn, top Bundeswehr commander, commenting on Russia. It's worth noting but can they really even attempt that at this stage?
The bulk of the Russian land forces may be tied down in Ukraine at the moment but, even so, we should not underestimate the Russian land forces’ potential to open a second theatre of war.
Most of the Russian navy has not yet been deployed in the war on Ukraine, and the Russian air force still has significant potential as well, which poses a threat to NATO too.
Presumably his handler pushed him for a quote.
I hoping Crimea is flying the blue and yellows come early new year,if they roll Kherson in the next few weeks,
We already have a prediction of 20,000 russian POWs over the next while ,
How can watch the Russian state TV with the shouty serous presenters?
Looks like mad craic altogether
I thought there had to be consistency across the Schengen area?
https://home-affairs.ec.europa.eu/policies/schengen-borders-and-visa/visa-policy_en
You need more boots on the ground, but i dont think Ukraine have that problem, the problem they have is getting them trained properly for the offensive.
To be efficient in combined arms everyone needs to be trained and coordinated in all stages of the operation for best effect
But they cant offcourse not do that without proper gear and equipment for the job as well
So yes West needs to continue pooring in equipment and supplies and continue the training for the offensive operations.
This is an excellent tweet and gets to the heart of a dilemma soon to impact a lot of people.
What will the appetite be for supporting Ukraine in Europe if there are blackouts and homes go cold this winter?
Thought we were blaming Data centers on blackouts
From what I can see, several Schengen countries restricting entry from a specific non EU country would not necessarily breach any need to maintain 'consistency' (as although residents of that country could still enter Schengen through other borders, they still wouldn't be legally entitled to enter those states with restrictions, even if they tried to come in via the Schengen route. In other words they would be deported immediately, even if they had visas to visit a Schengen country).
The chances of all that are receding and countries will hit the 80%+ in gas storage, probably a good bit more. The EU will introduce emergency measures for the electricity market soon, which has already knocked forward gas prices down.
A Porche compared to a Lada
Ukrainian artillery uses Polish KRAB howitzers
Sounds like we can expect more hybrid warfare and invasions in the future as well from Blyatstan
Dream on…
@jmreire have you heard anything about Chechnya recently, involving the loss of 11 + spetsnaz soldiers in the region
Security and health concerns are not eu competence, remember how quickly border checks went up during covid
I presume half of eu states wanted unified action on this but seeing the usual feet dragging from usual suspects they probably just said f it.
And I don’t blame them just few weeks ago Russian “tourists” blinded personnel at nato base in Albania, if you are Poland etc you be very nervous now of something worse.
If you are Russia and you wanted disrupt a certain nato base (or even just monitor) in Poland thru which weapons and personnel are pouring what would you do? Send some little green men on vacation maybe and have deniability so as not trigger article5
A bit of Russian fakery here. Don't you just love the photo of the Power Plant?
No, not recently. Communications problem.
Seen a tribute to losses in a particular unit currently deployed in Ukraine but 60 + kia but they mentioned that the same unit lost at least 11 soldiers with others injured in a incident in Chechnya very recently,
Wonder if something is brewing again
