Funny all these people who think they know the Russian nuclear weapon launch protocols because they watched a Tom Clancy movie once.
Yeah a nuclear launch of any magnitude would probably warrant a NATO response. I'd even suggest that if Russia were to blow up the nuclear power plants, that would cause an intervention.
I dont forsee that happening though.
"One small nuke fired at a small city, or even Kyiv would not trigger a full response from the west! " Are you serious??? So he gets away with that, and where will the next nuke hit? The only thing holding Putin in check is the fear of retaliation, and if he uses a nuke once, all cards are off the table. A nuclear strike by Putin will bring NATO into it, because the fallout will drift across borders into NATO Country's, and be rightfully considered an attack, triggering Article 5. He will be hit so hard and so fast with everything the west and NATO have, that the Russia military and possibly large amounts of Russia will be annihilated. The first one will trigger the last one. And he knows this, and its why he has not pushed the button.
Who do you think they fear more ,
Refusing Putin would likely see themself disappeared along with their families.
I really think that depends tbh. One nuke fired at a small sized Ukrainian city or even Kyiv i really don't think we'd see a full response from the west as that would mean the end of humanity as we know it. Remember Ukraine isn't in NATO and i believe the west no matter what they may say in the public sphere aren't prepared to take that step.
Or they could fly direct to Northern Ireland and they in then
I guess most of them have family as well and are loyal to them before Putin
Once a nuclear strike is registred or missile is launched there will be retaliation from the west.
And it will be with everything the west have and thats not going to be pretty for mankind
And even then only by going through Belfast. Hardly a dream holiday
100% for sure they are loyal to Vlada, the ones who were not were found floating face downwards in the river, which proved to be powerful incentive to be loyal to Putin.
otherwise Russians could fly to London and then on to Ireland then the rest of Europe
That's not true, they will be unable to check in and board the plane, and even if they pass the relaxed checks of Ryanair (who occasionally have people boarding the wrong plane) they will be stopped at the border of the destination country. So if the UK doesn't support an EU visa ban the only EU country that they can reach is Ireland.
Their mistake was to raise the threat early on and then hint at it a few times afterwards. Like the boy crying wolf, it loses it's effect after a while.
I don't see how it's a weak cop out. We have very open border policies with the UK as well as Europe. A europe wide visa ban would have to be backed up by the UK otherwise Russians could fly to London and then on to Ireland then the rest of Europe. It would need to be sorted out and probably won't happen with how Russian influence has infiltrated the UK government.
How are you so certain?
Im genuinely interested and I’m not saying your wrong- but why do you think you are correct?
Again- how do you know this for certain?
Are you actually a spy in the Kremlin or something?
It's noticeable that Kremlin talk of nuclear weapons has completely died down in recent weeks. I think they were getting feedback that such talk was making them seem completely unhinged (even the Putin supporters in the West would find it very hard to defend the regime detonating a nuclear weapon, even a small one).
In fairness when it comes to Ukraine there should not be much disharmony between Ireland and the U.K.
There is no way nuclear weapons, "tactical" or otherwise will be deployed. It is pure hysterics pushing that line that there will be tactical nukes retaliation etc etc
Unfortunately there is no guarantee that any order to launch a tactical nuke would be ignored ,one thing is guaranteed the generals In powerful positions are 100% loyal to Putin
Where's a building collapse when you need one 😥
Any orders he gives to fire nukes will be ignored by generals and Putin found face down in a river. He is a pathetic specimen of a human being. I doubt Russia's nukes are functioning anyway.
You know ,I think you are sort of right, when Khersan falls ,I think he will go quiet, a fee days later an indiscriminate target will be hit like a train or hospital . Finally he will say the withdrawal of khersan was tactical as it has been "de natzified " or some other waffle
So you want to him to ignore the fact we are in a common travel area with the UK?
Then what?
Bring in laws to restrict Visa access only to later discover the law is unenforceable?
Essentially you are asking him to be incompetent, when what he is currently doing is being competent and discussing an issue which may later prevent us taking effective action.
Nothing, every-time Putin is “humiliated” he disappears for a while, probably kills a puppy or something
He only understands a punch to the face, this war wouldn’t have happened if states bordering Russia were listened to and Putin was not given a green light by appeasement
If and hopefully when Kherson is liberated, what do you think Vlad will do? He will have to strike back somehow in a big big way. Will he do something with nuclear plant ? Or tactical nuke ?
Just looking for opinions
“defend the motherland comrades!”
sits back and sips the mojito cocktail
Maybe do your homework first
Where is the unwillingness? He's not part of the group discussing i as Ireland isn't part of Schengen. He can't do anything here. He has to work with the UK on it which he says he will
Tell that to the Ukrainian children being raped and kidnapped.
It shows an unwillingness to adapt to the situation from Coveney.
To be fair that alone is a win as it would add extra cost and uncertainty for Russians even if relatively easily avoided.
I could see UK banning tourist visas as they already had many people killed by Russian tourists in cruel ways including use of radioactive and chemical weapons on UK soil
CTA only applies to Irish/British citizens. You can already get a visa that allows you access to one country but not the other.
However, it would nonetheless be good diplomacy to work on it together.
