    Rory confirmed to play in the Italian Open as well as Wentworth and Dunhill links in the coming weeks on the European Tour.

    A different angle might be that taking on LIV might have helped him have a very good year. I think that "fight" transferred onto the course in a positive way for him.

    If he doesnt win another major most will look back on his career as what might have been. With his last major being at the age of 25. Guaranteed hall of famer though.

    One thing you can say is his chances of winning a major are looking better than they have done in quite a while. He was rarely even in contention after 2014, and up to this year. Hopefully he can carry his form into next year. If he keeps playing this well it makes it more likely that things go his way in one of the majors. I do think his best chance is either as a runaway winner or chasing someone down from a few shots back not in the final group.

    To win after making triple then bogey on the first 2 holes knowing you were already 6 back before those holes is mentally very impressive.

    The last 18 months, there has been a huge improvement in his putting imho.

    The standard on tour is insane & on tv we often just see putt after putt made as they move from one player to the next rather than see all the putts. We do not get a concept of how fast and undulating the greens are.

    I am a reasonable golfer and I know that I would not break 90 if I played well.

    That putt on 15th last night was a killer blow for Scottie and incredible to also back it up with an unreal up & down on 16th.

    He is an amazing golfer on an island of lots of talented golfers but when you look at the facts there is no golfer that I know of currently under 30yrs that holds a regular tour card on the PGA or DP Tours. I think this illustrates how tough it is to make it nevermind staying in the world top 10 and winning regularly.

    McIlroy has a 10% win rate on the PGA tour. To sustain that strike rate over 220 events is insane.

    No golfer under 30 that holds a regular PGA or DP tour card???

    There's loads of them. Not 100% but I think Rory is the oldest golfer in the Top 10 at 33.

    There is no Irish golfer that I know of that regularly hold a tour card on either tour afaik.

    4 majors a year. McIlroy doesn't win one = He's a bottler/choker.


    Let's not give credit to the brilliant golfers that take to the courses each and every time. The standard of golf nowadays is off the charts. Literally 25 to 30 golfers could win any given tournament on any given week.

    But no.....he's a bottler.

    Will Zalatoris has never won a major but has come close recently just like Rory. Only difference is that Rory has experience of winning majors.

    If you think Zalatoris will win majors then its logical to think Rory will win more. It makes no sense to think differently to that.

    If you are thinking different to that then you either have a mental block of some sort or have a dislike for Rory McIlroy.

    2015 majors - 3 different winners

    2016 majors - 4 different winners

    2017 majors - 4 different winners

    2018 majors - 3 different winners

    2019 majors - 4 different winners


    So yeah....it can be won by any player on any given week.

    I'm not sure right now but I'd guess the oldest with a full PGA tour card is Stewart Cink.

    I'm confused! You are saying that you don't need to be mentally strong or have the mindset to win a FedEx or a WGC but you do to win a major?


    While at the same time you argue emphatically that Sheffler, who won a major this year, 'bottled' it in the FedEx?

    What confuses you? Golf is about winning majors, everyone knows that. The pressure to win majors on Rory now because he hasnt since 2014 is extreme. absolutely everyone knows that. To say scheffler didnt bottle yesterday is ridiculous and makes you come across as a wind up merchant.

    Rory will win a few more majors. I don't think he'll have much trouble affording the best equipment anyway. Even after this great performance I would still say what I said a few months ago, his only real weakness seems to be uneven wedge play (for a player at his level, I'm sure he would outperform most of us). And like DJ before him, if you're going to drive the ball further than everybody else you need a great wedge game to take full advantage. Somehow yesterday this factor never really came into play, Rory has a great short game inside of 40 yards which is a different set of skills than the full wedge stuff, where he seems a bit below the standard he sets in every other area. I don't know if there's one variable that needs fixing with those wedges, maybe it's just a case of too much spin on some of them. Pro golfers are not going to be happy with this advice to fix the one chance they have to beat Rory. If he becomes as good a wedge player as DJ and fixes that first hole of first round thing, then game over right?

    He doesn't drive it much further than everyone though, that's a misconception from 10 years ago. His average driving distance on tour this year is 320 yards (Number 2) number 100 on the tour is averaging 303 yards theres basically very little between them these days. Just looking at yesterday, very regularly Sheffler was up besides him off the tee when he managed to hit it straight.

    I hope Rory gave Brad Faxon a healthy chunk out of that 18million. The turn around in his putting since he started working with Faxon has been incredible. There's no doubt that he has been the difference maker to him in the last year
