Clare GAA Discussion part 2
The Mills defeating Broadford confirming their place in the canon Hamilton for 2023.
Cratloe 2-21 Ballyea 0-13 was the big story of the day. Cratloe look to be back to their best with their attacking and free flowing hurling which is a joy to watch. Conor McGrath, Podge Collins, Diarmuid Ryan, Rian Considine look in great shape. Tony Kelly looks to be carrying some sort of injury, but regardless he’s not going at full tilt. Both Cratloe and Ballyea safely into the quarter finals.
discipline is the missing object in clonlara , if they had a fratioion of it over the last ten years who knows what they could have done , the likes of john conlon , the o'donovans and totts had it in abundance but most of the panel not mentioned didnt have a 1/4 of it
if ever a weekend of hurling has showcased the need to move away from group stage hurling it was this weekend , its such a waste of time , the ballyea v cratloe game highlighted it tonight , two teams afraid to show any sort of hand in case they meet again
the championship ran perfactly when it was knock out with a back door system attached , the county board seriously need to revert to type , also the relegation of two teams must continue for a couple of more years , too many teams have falling behind , teams like clarecastle, crusheen , the mills ,whitegate and broadford are way off the required level at senior
highlights of the weekends games so far
also kelly needs to pull the plug on this season , he is severally affected with an Achilles injury which which has plagued him since the munster final
tonight after being unable to muster more then a brisk walk , management put him in at full forward , first ball won he jumped to the clouds and won , the second he jumped and landed badly on his injured ankle and was almost carried off at the end ,
not sure the full extent of the injury but it is seriously affecting his game now
ffs TK better be careful or he'll end up missing the national league next year
Would that be a bad thing? Clare need to learn how to play without him. The league is a joke as Limerick showed us. Let Kelly recuperate during it
Is that O Callaghan’s win a bad one for Clarecastle? Can’t find the table anywhere
The final games in the group take place in 2 weeks time. Broadford are bottom on no points. Clarecastle are fourth on 1 point. The winner of the Clarecastle v Broadford will guarantee status in the Clare senior hurling championship for 2023. The loser will join Whitegate, Smith O'Briens and likely Scariff in a probable round robin group (each team plays 3 matches), with the bottom two in that group relegated to intermediate hurling for next year. or a relegation play-off with the losers of both ties relegated.
I don't know what format they will use. The County board used the the former format last year and it turned out to be a disaster, as such that after an appeal by the two bottom teams in that relegation group, no team got relegated and therefore we have 18 teams playing canon hamilton for 2022, reducing to 17 in '23 and 16 teams for the following year
Thanks for that
Highlights of some of todays games
there wont be a round robin after last year , it will be 4 teams in the relegation , and straight knock out , you lose you go down you win you stay up
Might be a dumb question here - but why wouldn’t a Clarecastle for example not want to go down to Intermediate? Is it purely a status thing of being a ‘Senior’ team?
Woukd they not rather have a chance at winning a county championship and even contesting Munster etc at Intermediate instead of battling hard to not get battered at Senior level
it seems to be a big taboo in both codes in my opinion , in kerry relegation is seen as opportunity for exactly that , munster runs or even all irelands in a lower grade
no club it seems wants to lose there senior status no matter how far they are off the pace , we have discussed this for weeks now on here , it probably would be a huge benefit to clarecastle if they went down , instead of young lads getting hammered every second game they would be in a competitive championship where they can improve , kilmaley are a perfect example of this , while they are out of the championship tonight they won the clare cup only a few weeks back
Because there would only be one senior hurling team in the parish then....
Getting out of intermediate will not be easy for anyone.
But that’s what I’m asking - Who cares if there’s only 1 senior team in the parish/why should they care?
Wouldn’t they want to have a chance at winning something and being able to play progressive hurling at their respective level (and thus kicking on from there)?
I'd say, Clarecastle,,, and Ballyea would... if you don't know the parish then you can't know what this would do to Clarecastle!
No but why! Is why I’m asking ha
I’m based in Clarecastle myself (the last 3 years) and the interest in hurling here has been minimal from what I can see
standings after round 4
3 years isn't even a blow in territory.. Clarecastle has always been a senior team, even when they were pulling in from Junior clubs. They are not going to go down without a fight. Nor will they want to see Ballyea.. plus it's not easy to get back up to senior if you go down.
Interest in hurling waivers. they are on the down curve at the moment but are rebuilding.

Chris Relied on his umpire to make that call
and the same umpire that called ennistymons 2nd point a wide , it looked like a goal to me in fairness , chris mcguire in my opinion is a fairly good ref i dont blame him on this , but a massive call to make
if you watch it back tubs was outside the small square when paul dillon kicks the shot , once it hits the keeper its a live ball tubs has every right to be standing in the square after that
In the square before the kick was taken? if it had gone it probably should have been disallowed. Hard call for a ref.
i dont think he was inside when the initial shot was taken , its touch and go in slow motion so cant blame chris on this one it was a huge call which or whether , doonbeg will fight like dogs to keep there senior status this will ad to the fight now , miltown dont look prepared for the fight at the moment its between them and kilmihil for the drop in my opinion

took me ages but this is what i was trying to up load tubs just out side the square in my opinion
