Didn't Ballyragget lose 3 finals before finally getting promoted?
Fifi helped them get over the line
Dicksboro struggled to get promotion in 70’s
They neednt worry about finals for a good while out there!
Unlikely they'll have to be worrying for a while alright, such a sharp downward spiral over a short period of time.
Laughing and joking aside it was some slide for them. That incident certainly didn't help things. I know a lot of the older stalwarts of the Club were absolutely disgusted. I know they had tragedy with a player aswell but it was some fall. I don't think they'll be at the business end of the junior either. Windgap mightnt be too bad. Two lads from the u20 and James power is an addition and a good free taker. Walter hasn't played much yet but they'll get a few off that good minor team. Danny glennon is very lively. The boro and village 2nd team won't be too bad.
Yeah I think that tragedy would have really hurt that group as he was a very quiet and likeable guy.
Junior will be interesting this year and you couldn't say there's any Clear favourite to win it out, but I'd expect Piltown, Emeralds, Windgap and Tullogher to all have a say in it and I'd expect either Village or Boro to come through the section B side of things.
There present chairman would not inspire a club to progress.
Windgap will surely go up this year. 3/4 county minors over the last few years and half the John Locke's team transferred over the last few years. They are after dishing out a few hammerings already this year. Shamrocks, Thomastown and Windgap to win there respective grades.
is James Maher still going travelling.
Brian Dowling sticking with the camogie team for another year
Michael Fennelly for the U20's banisteoir gig I would imagine.
Never a truer word said
Yeh you see it a lot on Twitter
e.g Paidi Maher tweeting about the Tipp team and comments saying ‘you’d get them going with a kick up the arse paidi’ etc.. it’s cringe
No sign of these panels being named on the website. Surely it isn't too much to ask for them to publish them?
Best of luck to all involved.
Bridge v Glenmore - Bridge by 9
Clara v Mullinavat - I'd anticipate a tight one here Clara by skin of their teeth
Village v O'Loughlins - Again should be tight O'Loughlins to sneak it
Comer v Shamrocks - Shamrocks should have too much here unless Comer forwards can improve, Shamrocks should have more of their regulars back.
Tullaroan v Lisdowney - Lisdowney by 2
Boro v Ballycallan - Boro by 12
Gowran v Conahy - Conahy to bounce back by 3 to win after last weekend
Fenians v Freshford - 2 teams struggling but Freshford to edge it
St Martin's v Ttown - Ttown should win handy here
Danesfort v Rower - Fort by 3
Carrickshock v Dunnamaggin - Dunna by 2
O'Loughlins v Mooncoin - Mooncoin to scrape over this one
Windgap v Tullogher - Windgap by 4-5

Emeralds v Galmoy - Emeralds by 6
Independent.ie: Darragh Joyce to leave St Kilda with possible return to Kilkenny hurlers on the cards.
https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/hurling/darragh-joyce-to-leave-st-kilda-with-possible-return-to-kilkenny-hurlers-on-the-cards-41939978.html
Would be some coup for Derek if he got Joyce back. Would take a good bit to get back to the level but his size and fitness would be huge.
Bennettsbridge were unimpressive in beating Glenmore by 3-15 to 2-13. Glenmore were 8 points up after getting 2 well worked goals, one by Ethan Phelan. Eoin Murphy was particularly prominent in hoovering up loose ball. The Bridge scored 2 goals by Kevin Blanchfield and Nicky Cleere leaving the scores level at half time. The teams traded points until the Bridge were awarded a penalty which was converted by David Blanchfield with 10 minutes to go. Alan Murphy was quiet for Glenmore for whom Liam Hennessy did well. The 3 Blanchfields and 2 Morrisseys were best for the Bridge. Both sides were guilty of overplaying the ball whilst also driving some aimless balls. Glenmore played very deep and the Bridge struggled to cope. Very little between the teams based on today's game
He'd have to make it on the Rower Inistioge team first.
There's no chance Joyce ever makes it as an inter county hurler after that long away. No chance.
I was watching 'Tall, Dark and O'Halpin' from 2006 a few weeks ago. Setanta O'Halpin was young hurler of the year age 20 in 2003. He left for Carlton in 2004. Sean óg, the brother came out in 2006, he was pucking around with Setanta. Setanta was missing the ball on his right hand side pucking.
Of all games you lose your touch in hurling very quickly.
Whatever about the Rower, he’d walk on to the Boro team.
To be fair Setanta O'Halpin waant the most naturally gifted hurler that ever walked onto a pitch. He was more about his size and athleticism than hurling ability.
Regarding Joyce it's now or never for him. I remember him speaking in the past about wanting to come back and try and win an AI in the past. The thing is he could potentially get another AFL club so he might not be ready to come back just yet.
It seems like the perfect time though with a new regime taking over who will likely cast the net far and wide.
The new split season would suit him too in this case as you would have time to get sharpness back and your eye in under a tailored program.
Whether he would be called up based on.his form as a minor from 7 and 8 years ago is another thing. So if he was serious about coming back it would be a good idea to come back and hurl with club before the year is out.
He was a senior inter county player with Cork. Young player of the year, Aisake, the next brother was the awkward one. You'd have to be able to hit the ball out of your hand on your good side!! He was missing and mis hitting 3 years later.
I'm pointing out how you lose your touch in hurling very quickly.
Aussie Rules destroyed many a gaelic footballer, where there would be some similarity in the skill set, Tommy Walsh of Kerry was never the same again. Darragh Joyce has been gone from hurling for far too long. Not a hope of inter county.
But going back to that `14 minor team, was Joyce even one of it`s star performers? For me the real drivers of that team at the business end were Blanchfield, Walsh, Scanlon and Cleere. That Indo article is lazy journalism.
Meh, he was average enough. A bit of a hype job.
I thought so too.
It's one thing hoping a fella who played inter county senior will return home and play Gaelic inter county, e.g. Colm Begley Laois, Marty Clarke Down etc. But a fella who only played minor.
He was an established inter county senior hurler at 20, who won young player of the year and he admitted after 3 years he couldn't strike the ball consistently. Joyce was a minor player. You couldn't make a comparison with Joyce and O'Hailpin. Lads are expecting Joyce to magically turn into a county hurler because he has an edge on S&C. Complete rubbish.
Joyce couldn't even make it in Aussie Rules, O'Hailpin did in senior inter county hurling and Aussie Rules.
I'm not comparing them nor am I saying Joyce will make it. I doubt he will even come back to be honest. I'm just saying Setanta was average enough and a bit of a hype job.
I disagree. He gave Noel Hickey a fierce hard time of it in the 2003 final. Same v Wexford in the drawn and replayed games. His touch was good and he was a natural goal scorer. Grand we all have our opinions, no bother at all.
Personally I think if Joyce came back it could turn into a side show. Best concentrate on what's in the clubs and going well and what's coming through from underage.
I'm from Laois and have seen a few footballers return from aussie rules and they run in straight lines and have lost a lot of the evasive skills of gaelic games. I actually don't know what it would do to a hurler. But not hurling for that length, seriously bad effect on your skills. And never having played senior inter county.
Edit: All the O'Halpins were hyped a bit given their background. But the first two had talent Sean Og and Setanta in my opinion. Aisake was useless.
