New regulations new season....
Can redbull keep up the pace
It wouldn't be surprised if he announces his retirement from the sport.
to the bank with a very large cheque from McLaren
Ricciardo to Williams in place of Latifi
Piastri in at McLaren
Schumacher to Alpine
Giovinazzi in at Haas
Just guessing from latest news bits.
Why would Ricciardo move at all, if he has a solid contract for 2023?
Maybe if he gets a multi year contract from Williams, same as Alonso did when he could only get another year at Alpine.
Or else, Piastri to Williams for 1 year, with a contract at McLaren already for 2024.
All speculation, like everyone else.
Giovinazzi has had his chance in F1. Don't think he deserves another drive. I can't see himself and Schumacher both being on the grid next year. It's one or the other.
Yeah gio is 27 and hasn't shown any real prospects. Maybe it's a weakness in the Ferrari young development programme but they're pushing to have a driver on the grid anyway. Gio doesn't look much better than Schumacher though. Doesn't make great sense. And they have their driver lineup sorted in the short-medium term.
Hard to predict what will happen.
If Ricciardo's options are less money at mclaren or take the payout and move to Williams, then they're not good options. Hard to see him come back from either another poor season at mclaren or a poor car at Williams. At least the Williams option gives him more money and keeps him in the sport for a few years. So that might be his best option.
I really do not see that happening because Latifi brings big money to William's. Ricciardo is not going to want to go to William's he might as well be saying he is done if he did
Talk about going backwards on the grid from Red Bull the Top Team in 2014 to two Midfield teams and then the team at the very back of the grid. It really would not be good for him.
He would be better to sit it out at Mclaren on less pay or retire from F1 if that were the case.
At least the Williams option gives him more money and keeps him in the sport for a few years. So that might be his best option.
How does the William's option give him more money? He would have to bring money to William's so there goes his check from mclaren then.
I do not see him going to William's unless he is absolutely desperate and has no where out of F1 he can go too.
He would get a payout from Mclaren which would be worth more than next years contract, plus he'd be paid a couple of million a year at Williams. He might bring sponsorship, but he still gets paid at Williams.
Perez brings as much as $30m a year but he still gets paid around $8m a year.
Latifi already announced he's leaving Williams, so that seat is open to someone.
Any links to Latifi announcing he's leaving Williams? Only recent article I've seen says he's fighting for his future at the team
Yeah I can't see anything either. I must have gotten that wrong.
Ric could take a sabbatical and wait for something better to come along.
If Ricciardo genuinely believes that he can get his drive together at McLaren ( which is what he has been saying) then he would be better staying at McLaren. If he does improve he could revitalise his career.
It is hard to see what his future at Williams might be. He is unlikely to impress in the Williams car and that would simply confirm those who view him as past it.
Unless McLaren meet his demand for circa €21m then he might prefer to stay and prove his critics wrong.
Unless he starts destroying his team mate and is getting it into Q2 consistently, even if he's just scraping it by 1/100.
Interesting
That's a pity. Alfa Romeo will be missed in the grid. I know they are only a sponsor but I still like seeing them on the grid. The Ferrari engine this year has not been bad for Sauber either. Who is to say what an Audi Porsche engine will be like. It might not be a good move for Sauber.
It might not be a good move for Audi. Sauber has never shown serious potential to be anything better than midfield. Their base in Switzerland is a big disadvantage. They don't get the same cross-pollination of ideas that the English teams get. The Brackley based teams often share houses with members of other teams. They chat and discuss things (not breaking any confidentiality) but they share solutions and spark ideas. And it's easier to move between the English based teams without uprooting the family and moving to Switzerland.
Seems doomed to live out its existence in the midfield. But maybe audi will invest serious money and make a difference.
Alfa is absolutely no loss to the grid. They're just a sponsor in a midfield team. Nice colour scheme. But that's about it.
..
expected, but now the fun and games with Alpine taking Piastri to court!
...
Wonder will Lando be happy with a talented young buck like Piastri coming in.
Mclaren done the right thing my getting rid of him, he's been a very bad signing for them. Don't think too many teams would want him, he peaked at RB and it's been downhill since
Poor Zac will be crying everytime he looks at his imola tattoo thinking "Jesus.....that was expensive"
I'd say there will be a "no tattoo" clause in his next contract.
I'm sure he'll be a bit nervous but probablyconfident in his abilities and experience, to beat him. He was probably nervous last year when Ricciardo arrived and that turned out well for his reputation.
I can't see Lando giving 2 Fs as to who comes in. In his head, he will already have won the battle. I think he's a super driver and I believe a future world champion.
Two years ago you might have asked if Lando would be happy with a proven race winner like Riccardo coming in and look where we are today.
Danny Ric posted a video on instagram outlining the current situation. No great surprise to anyone but he sounded very deflated despite trying to put a brave face on it. I wonder what’s next for him?
I’ve tuned out of F1 for the last week or two since there’s been no racing. Is Alpine still the most likely move for him?
What a terrible decision leaving RB was for DR.
Yeah but he saw the writing on the wall with Max.
