In Paddy Cosgrave's case really not so much. He has a massive sense of entitlement, between his notions about Web Summit and his often inaccurate faux journalism stuff during COVID. He does give the impression he has it in for certain people. The Ditch site has identified one big story so far and written very badly about it. They will get an audience for this semi-clickbait approach but one story does not make them credible and they could genuinely do with finding some proper writers.
Plus Paddy had no issue with FG or any of the parties till he wasn't handed millions of tax payers money. Once FG turned down all his requests and a big pay cheque he has run a vendetta since then. Portugal handed him 10m or 11m a year and FG didn't.
If FG gave him that money I would expect "ontheditch" would currently be running stories but pointing at a different party
How very Trump of you to use words like MSM.
The first step for populists and tyrants to rule is to aim their ire at the media.
Yeap, whats the term again?
"Useful idiots"
I guess it depends on what millionaire media owner they want to hate or love, depending on what way the wind blows.
You having a laugh?
You post more about Dennis O'Brien then the rest of boards.ie combined. He is your go-to arch villan.
Yet, you love Paddy Cosgrave even though he is a proven liar and bully.
MSM seems alot easier than Typing Main Stream Media Marko, what the odious Trump, populist tyrants, has to do with my comments re Irish MSM is a mystery, but whatever.
Ill await something constructive to say
But to their credit one of the MSM have woken up, I've shared the details elsewhere, I'm sure you find it on the relevant Thread
Good Morning
Having a pop at the MSM is easy and something extremists and populists around the world always do.
That is the side of history you are siding with at Dempo. Not a good look.
TBF they also talk about ABP an awful lot, drug busts, a bit about Eamonn Ryan and then there was that salacious Labour non-story. Its style is very much poor tabloid and the site layout is truly awful. One would hope that they use the donation money to sort that out.
The Currency is a much much better publication than the ditch, which has an angry populist student union vibe to it.
Really Marko, you think I'm alone at questioning the rather lazy MSM, have I accused them of lies, Conspiracy theories, spreading Hate, sowing division etc 🤔 my word you've certainly got the wrong end of the stick I'm afraid.
I've accused them correctly on Lazyness, avoiding a very important story, I think you need to catch up and check my posts. Any attempt to drag a particular story into this thread will be ignored. I deal will that in the appropriate thread.
Now, seriously am I wrong 🤔🤔 re my comments on MSM (Ireland) & if so please enlighten me
Well, they do have journalists and regular media contributors writing for them!
It's bewildering, where this nonsense has come out of is puzzling, as for Charlie, I've had have him elsewhere why he constantly deflects, I'm am a constituent after all and told him so 😉
Yes, that does help. Employing actual journalists. Who would have thought! LOL
You are forever having a go at RTE and other major media outlets because they want to 'protect' the establishment.
That is populist ranting 101 used by the likes of Trump.
Own your position for once Dempo and don't dance on a pin.
It's okay not to like the MSM if you don't like them.
"I would expect..."
Oh look more groundless speculation based on your own notions.
Have you managed to point out anything that was misrepresented in either of the stories broken by the Ditch?
Dempo criticizes RTÉ, Newstalk The Indo, Examiner and IT and apparently he's siding with despots and tyrants.
You're not one for nuance are you Marko?
Also, the stifling of debate and the muddying of the waters is another tactic beloved of despots and tyrants. Funny how you're okay with that...
---
Can ANYONE point to any grievous errors in the reportage of the Ditch? Anything at all? If not, perhaps we can discuss the content of these stories rather than constantly harping on about the organisation. You'd swear the government supporters don't want to discuss the stories that are critical of them... Surely not...
If you actually check it was not me who actually said MSM media protect the establishment, actually no one did, it was put much more elegantly but I absolutely agreed Marko.
I'm certainly entitled to have a Pop as you put it, especially at RTE, again your avoiding my reasonable question, am I wrong to highlight the absolute Lazyness when it suits MSM (Irish) and you've also skirted my response re spreading hate, conspiracy theories etc, TUT TUT Marko, you opened that ugly door, perhaps you now want to shut it 🤔
Not a fan of the Slate back in the day I'd guess.
Surely your concern should be directed to the quality of the content of their reports rather than the quality of their prose.
Of course it is speculation...my post was clear it was speculation
What's irregular about the Ditch journalists?
Is it that you don't like what it is they write? While you are at it, can you tell us what is 'irregular' about what they have uncovered? Is it that you don't really like what they uncovered and the questions arising?
Very well said. Even Robert Troy said that the Ditch were correct and amended his own records.
I asked the question yesterday on which media outlets are ok because seemingly the "Fine Gael friendly Sunday Indo" is trying to corrupt us.
I have yet to get an answer.
I have no issue with what they want to say and the ABP and Troy stuff are of interest. It's a free world, but it really is pretty awful writing, little more than listing off events and you get the impression it's largely the two editors. If that's how like your news that's fine. The site is also a very poor user experience.
I'm honestly baffled at the criticism of The Ditch, it has done a remarkable service in a short space of time, funded by well know people yes, but also by many ordinary folks. Some will focus on the current high profile story but there's been many including the #APB debacle.
It is certainly MSM right to ignore important stories and belatedly catch on but it's also reasonable for people to question their Lazyness.
I recall not so long ago the Irish Examiner broke a certain stories & were vilified in some quarters.
I'm the first to link to a MSM reports on a breaking FFG story (relevant to this thread) and have done so here on 100's of occasions, so to suggest I and others obsess on MSM Lazyness is simply absurd. I expect transparency from our MSM not convenient reporting or lack of.
Simples really
What more was needed in this case?
They don't have a huge budget, that is unfortunate, but there is merit in relating the facts and let the truth fall where it may IMO. Certainly the media that pride themselves on being 'journalists' have been made to look like they are soundly asleep at the wheel and are playing catch up.
Agreed, the website is a bit 90s!
So is the FF corruption I guess 😁
Can you show us the post you were responding to? The one where somebody said 'the "Fine Gael friendly Sunday Indo" is trying to corrupt us'
Or maybe this statement 'That the Indo is trying to corrupt us', is an invention of your own and therefore nobody can be bothered engaging on it.
Just a wild guess.
TBH some extra input into their writing process should be moderately inexpensive. Listing is fine if you just skim scroll through it but I actually got a lot more information out of the Troy statement. If you want to deliver news you do need to draw the strands together sometimes. They don't do that and it looks like they are trying to get 2-3 posts out of a story. I get why they do that because it can be tough to produce online content but it's hard to see where the focus is when it's split like that.
I'd imagine the 'focus' is accountability.
I guess it could be but you can put it all into one piece and explore it that way.
