Really, it is one of the worst "songs" I have ever heard. Absolute drivel
Interesting...
Dec pierce won’t play 2000. He’ll play 4 rhythms version
How about a twist on the format. PRESENTERS who wouldn't play it, on STATIONS that might? I'll start with Ed Smith, I doubt he'd play it.
The track was sung/voiced/shouted over 4 rhythm Maniac
I agree - Wicked Willy's version to Status Break the silence was much better
I'm more of a house fan than trance but John O'Callaghan has done some great stuff over the years. Here's an interview from a good youtube channel (Music Xpress) with John discussing his biggest track "Big Sky" and other stuff. Worth a watch.
Also, anyone with any taste doesn't consider Maniac 2000 either dance or good! It's utter shoyte.
I reckon Spin1038 would not play it because 2000 is too far back for it's playlist! By the same token, that would apply to its regional sister station Spin SW as well!
that's right, the 4 rhythm version was released around 1995 originally.
I had forgotten about the 4 rhythm version. I seem to remember that there was a studio version of that, prior to Mark McCabe's version, not that I would have been a fan of either! That said, I think I preferred their version! I had mixed feelings about the original version by Michael Sembello, but it was far superior to the samples/versions that followed, including Maniac 2000! It even has a reasonable guitar solo, of all things!
they could play the 1998 version that he recorded live using the 4 rhythm version, i think done at the temple theatre?
Mark McCabe was on Pulse 103 FM (pirate) and there was a version which mentioned "on the Pulse FM dance floor" if I'm not mistaken.
Also, DJ Wicked had a version which said "you know the score, 106.4" - because he was on Club FM 106.4.
BBC Radio Ulster or BBC Radio Foyle
Did he say that when he took the money?
Surname checks out!
By the same token - online station Radio Snowflake!
As I predicted!
Christmas fm
Newstalk played it d'other day. It was Maria Walsh MEP favourite teenage 'disco' tune
Two more for the list: online stations All 80s and The 90s Network (also a Dublin pirate) - for obvious reasons! I have no doubt that had it been Maniac '99 that it would have been played on the latter!
There are a huge amount of other international recognised Irish dj's and producers doing really well overseas yet for some reason the Irish stations lead us to think Maniac is as good as it gets. Even up north there is a far bigger scene than down here for some reason.
You would think so, but....
Believe it or not, Newstalk have a music-led programme presented by Tom Dunne! He certainly would not play it, or his usual stand-in Richie McCormack! However, occasionally, they play snatches of music on other programmes if relevant to what they are discussing. They recently had presenters finishing shows with their favourite summer songs. In that context, and rather ironically, it is actually possible that one or two of the presenters might actually play a bit of that song! You are actually more likely to hear it on Newstalk than many of the stations listed already!
It's unlikely to get an airing on any of the regular weekend "oldies" pirates such as Retro FM and Energy Power AM, and certainly not ABC 80s!...
...Which reminds me: You can add the following online stations to the list: Dublin's ABC, Gem Radio Gold and Gem Radio New Wave.
Newstalk
UCB - another Christian-oriented music station - would definitely not have it on their playlist!
Zenith Classic Rock, the Waterford-based online and occasionally temporary licensed station, would not play it either!
Radio Maria and Spirit I somehow doubt would have that on their playlists.
I preferred the one by DJ Wicked...

I much preferred the original version of Maniac by Michael Sembello.
Stations that would not play Maniac 2000: Radio Nova, Sunshine 106.8, 8Radio.com and Easy Radio.
They had a few tunes as well...
They aren't. One of them lives in Wexford, now, but didn't then.
Mark McCabe is unlikely to have made much money directly out of Maniac, as it was based extensively on a cover of another track; and he only has partial writing credit for the MCed lyrics anyway. That said, his DJ appearances for 20 years, and probably iRadio job now certainly won't have been harmed by it!
Ha! It's a good one to bring up memories from when I was a teenager!
I'd say if you're trying to avoid hearing it, you could trust RTÉ Jnr. not to give it a spin.
Are you sure Binary Finary were Irish, and that you're not thinking of Agnelli & Nelson?
Never knew it till later but Binary Finary were Irish lads, 1998 was some tune. Maniac was a tune aswell at the time tbf
