What's the "well" in the middle of the roof for?
Must be a disaster in heavy rain.
Many old country houses have that style of roof. The water exits through gutters. It's not a problem.
Hiding the satellite dish. Talk about forward thinking!
Seems a very odd design.
A lot of moss, leaves, bird droppings etc. would quickly block up the entrance to the gutters, and it looks like access would be very difficult.
Don't see the reason for it at all.
Easier and a lot cheaper as well as being more aesthetically pleasing than one larger roof that would either be a lot flatter, or a lot taller.
Usually some kind of rain water harvesting there as well in olden days for WC's etc. No bigger an issue to clean than standard guttering as you have full access to the roof and no danger of falling off.
I'm not an expert so give me a bit of leeway here but my guess is that this was an easy way to roof a house of that shape and footprint size. When these houses were being built they didn't have steel frames and builders had to work with wood and slate. Structurally it would have been much more difficult to roof it using another method. The roof span would have been too great. Much easier to send a young lad up once a year to clear it out if it was needed. It's possible that some of those houses had a window that opened into the inside area of the roof to make cleaning and maintenance easier.
Here's Ballydoolin House with a similar type of roof. https://www.daft.ie/for-sale/detached-house-ballindoolin-house-carbury-co-kildare/3919900
Still house hunting in Kilkenny. Anybody have the winning lotto numbers for next Friday?

I'm not a fan at all, to McMansiony for me. I hate the front of the house, the half-mast curtains in some of the room and the red carpet.
Log room, talk about notions!
I also couldn't afford it.
You must be awful poor. I own several houses like that worth similar money. I started off selling caravans to travellers and moved up to cheap houses and progressed from there made a killing during the celtic tiger. And now own a decent chunk of property.
How can you tell the chimney needs reflashing?
Why are there so many pictures of the kitchen? I wouldn't be a massive fan of that house though.
The main issue I have with those McMansion style houses is often they try and do too many things at once and as a result, most of the rooms feel either totally cramped or else very vacant because they didn't plan it out properly.
CRAMPED
VACANT
I was wandering round the virtual tour for ages trying to find the kitchen. I was disappointed then when I found it.
So, so ugly compared to the previous two. Why can't we build anything attractive any more?
I'd echo many of the comments made already such as the cramped rooms etc. I also hate the gate at the bottom of the stairs. Who wants to have to open the gate every time they want to go up the stairs so it will look sh1t most of the time and leaves less room to walk past the stairs.
And why design steps into a relatively modern house when there is no need? Steps aren't your friend when you get old or if you are in a wheelchair/have mobility issues.
I got as far as the stairs photo and thought no, tacky is the word that springs to mind. I didn't look at any more photos.
Great find for the purpose of the thread though.
It really is a bit tacky especially when you notice the cheap prints and pictures on the wall. I would say the gate on the stairs is to stop the dog going upstairs which may just be practical for them.
Agreed - the whole place is finished with tacky off the shelf synthetic material twiddly bits. Especially those twisty pillar things on the kitchen cabinets and the whole factory-spray-painted 'timber' components. And agreed about the unnecessary steps and that peculiar room off the living room that doesn't really have space for furniture so they have crammed it full of knick-knacks and a settee across the only decent window.
It still beats me where you put outdoor shoes and coats and schoolbags and car keys in those sort of houses. If you abandon a book or a newspaper it makes the whole place cease to look like a showroom, which would be fine but showroom is the effect they are going for.
Though someone came into my house yesterday and looked around the disaster area that was the living room (I'd been out of commission for about a week) and said something on the lines of - I like this house, it looks lived in. I wasn't sure whether to be offended or amused.
I'd see this house before in the thread but feck me, it is stunning. It'd have to be in the running were you to win the lotto. It looks well kept, modern and 200+ acres of land sounds like plenty.
I really don't like that house. I'm not sure what but like previously mentioned McMansion vibes
You honestly wonder how big the market is in Ireland for mcMansions of €1-2 million.
I was just thinking the same thing.
,,,in Hugginstown.
Better value in Offaly, still has steps and Celtic Tiger written all over it.
This includes a "laundry shoot" so you'll never have to wash your clothes again. 🤣
Check out this property I found using Daft

My links won't embed anymore for some reason. Take 2:
Oh, that worked!
,
Ah that doesn't seem too bad. It's a bit cluttered and the kitchen is odd but I get the impression it could clean up to be quite a cosy house with a bit of work.
You just need to be careful when the laundry is being shot in the shoot. 😯
I don't like how there is a well worn driveway beside your house leading to some property behind your house. If it is a house that wouldn't be too bad but annoying anything else would be annoying.
The size of the house and they put most of the mismatching kitchen in a hallway. Much of the house is nice but the kitchen/dining/living room area would put me off.
Satellite view shows some sort of commercial property right behind them.
And forgive me, I know this room is out of place in this house but I actually like it.
Who thought this was a good style of toilet to install. Pure ugly.
That shared driveway would put me off. Presumably the house was built by the owners of that business.
