Apparently you have to queue to get a wrist band to permit you a 1/2 hour visit at an appointed time- The Joe Duffy show will milk this for weeks- I feel for the parents queuing for hours tomorrow and coming days but excited to see it eventually . Let the games begin 😂😂😂

I imagine most of those queuing are grown men who don't have their mammies taking them for some Lego.
That won't be required, lots of us got in this evening. Hideous bus trip back with the bags cause the trains were goosed.

Unit listed at 660sqm when up for rent after Topshop. That may include storage. Its bigger than some UK regional stores, probably sized about right for population based on UK equivalents; but I could see them needing a second rapidly
I've never gotten the appeal of Lego, but have fun if it's your thing!

Exhibited (occasionally) / volunteered at Lego shows for a decade; like most of the people in that preview session - there'd been some ticket winners from radio etc in earlier. They had the media in yesterday and maybe earlier today too.
There were some nibbles and soft drinks but otherwise everything was full price and I'm fairly sure they've got decent stock levels too, so it saved on queueing more than anything else!
Fair play- what you think the coming days will bring? Bedlam or predictable organised chaos or pretty organised?

This has been a very long time coming as LEGO stores have been operating in the UK for a good long spell now. But better late than never!
I loved LEGO as a child- I had a town of it in my attic bedroom in the 1980s, got back into the bricks in 2015 and been a big LEGO fan since. 😊
Will check out the new store when the initial kerfuffle dies down.

Ridiculously overpriced moulded plastic.
Which kids, and some adults get thousands of hours of joy from.
I'm thinking of going in for a pirate set. I love the pirate ship with the little port and the base etc. Back to being a kid again soon! Might try to get something else too,like a formula 1 car.
As a Dad it's one of the best toys you can have your kids play with. It helps teach patience, it helps them to understand the instructions process and it's excellent for a growing imagination. Personally I'm a huge techie with multiple computers in the house, a PS3/PS4/XBox 360 etc but my 5 year old doesn't have a clue what they are (they are never on when she's around). They won't give her any real benefit in the way that a toy like LEGO will.
Oh, I'm not knocking it at all, I just wasn't introduced to it as a child. I can see it's better than a lot of the crap sold nowadays too.
Ah I know you weren't, but was just giving you a few of the reasons that might explain its popularity. It's a little unusual in that both kids and adults like it.
I wonder what percentage of adults still purchase and build Lego? Like it’s almost a ubiquitous toy with kids, but when I visited the shop in London I could see a fair bit of the store had sets designed for adults - some of the sets running to almost a 1000 quid!
Ah now you can say that about lots of things, certain pens, certain product items, other toys, Michael Jackson, Nicki Minaj, etc
But Lego is..... Awesome.
Lego is great, but there still must be a serious markup on what likely costs cents or less to manufacture.
This. And I believe the Lego patent expired so there's cheaper compatible "block/brick toy sets".
The patent expired. The trademarks on the minifigures and on specific sets are eternal. Doesn't stop some of the clones; but it does make them confiscateable by customs.
The other major issue is that most of the 'compatible' products are of appalling quality. You can't have something hold together when they aren't a consistent shape. The QC, and the disposing of moulds when they have been used too often and are worn, both cost a lot of money that someone knocking out clones won't spend.

i wonder though about the viability of a store in Dublin in this day and age… rent won’t be cheap on Grafton St… will they really achieve the turnover they require to be profitable ? Considering the volume of business that’s done online now…
I know from what I’ve read that they’ll have games and ‘build offs’ and similar interactive elements but I dunno… the photos don’t really suggest anything special.
Their stores compete and survive against online offerings elsewhere. And their main online competitor is, well, them.
Have the queues died down a bit? We're planning on going tomorrow.
How did it work out for you? I’d imagine it will be fairly busy until schools return and then quiten down until Christmas season rears it’s head
Like LER, I didn't get into Lego either (I think maybe it's moreso boys who are into it? Not saying there aren't female Lego fans, just that most might be male?) but my brother's Lego fire station he got in the early '80s was fooking awesome.
We got there for 11:30, got ticket for 14:30, had 3 hours to kill which was quite horrible experience in city centre when you have no interest in shopping and have a whinny 8 yo who hates walking.
The tomfoolery of queuing for these sorts of things, the lego will be there next week too.
