I don't count these ones along the N6 as they are part of N6 traffic light junction roundabout re-configurations. Perhaps Kirwin could be the exception with that link section to the Coolagh Road?
I guess the Millars Lane Resurfacing, lighting and galvanized gate removal is going to the next one on the cycling front in the City? have other area's of City got such treatment?
I think the one on Newcastle Road was after that? https://www.google.com/maps/@53.2815293,-9.0649717,3a,75y,90h,91.3t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sN24nNAnPUeLuArs542gbCw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!4m5!3m4!1s0x485b96f48d47a5e1:0xcbaf1c2415190a09!8m2!3d53.2817693!4d-9.0648149
and more recently Kirwan https://www.google.com/maps/@53.2869972,-9.0449705,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1stRU_Yus4erYAOxNBRPLBNA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
Might as well get it right then for Ceeview. Garda, Revenue Official or a Traffic Warden can direct vehicular traffic on the roads but that really is deflecting from the core message that illegal parking can kill road users.
I have not read or heard anywhere that vehicular traffic was been redirected anywhere? If one is merely highlighting that the faded double yellow lines exist at the junction or on approach to the pedestrian crossing that does not constitute directing traffic.

Sorry, who was directing traffic?
The only person I've heard of in this whole saga who was directing traffic was the passer-by who took on that duty until the Gardai arrived when the doctor who had been knocked off her bike was still lying in the road thinking she had a broken hip and shouldn't move. Are you suggesting this passer-by was breaking the law by altering drivers to the presence of an injured person on the road?
Are you drunk?
Please also explain to her that if a person on not a Garda, they have no business directing traffic, and are breaking the law if grey try.
It would be interesting to see the lengths of footpaths, cycle lanes, bus lanes and regular roads compared. Even more interesting would be total area comparisons.
I say the last bit of purpose built cycle and bus infrastructure built in Galway City is the Outbound Cyle Path Lane on the Rahoon Road and the Inbound Bus lane from Cemetry to Rockfield Park back in 2013/14?
The N6 section is service DUCT, only added to the Cycle Network 20yrs after it was originally built. When the Multi Lane Roundabouts were removed. So the real amount of KM's is smaller really. Its really only Doughiska (Council gave themselves a D rating in the GTS for that), SQR/BOD (that has large multi lane roundabouts either end of it and WDR.
Thomas Hynes Road and Headford Road examples above is just downright dangerous design.
Please explain to her the next time you meet her then - she is likely of an age and height who will greatly benefit from this action.
Parking on these junctions or near pedestrian crossings on double lines is very dangerous for children who are crossing minor roads like this or pedestrian crossings as sight lines are obstructed to other road users when approaching them.
No, I'd no idea. All she saw was a hazard being created on the road and I told her best to ignore them.
The council's response:
I put in a number of queries to Galway City Council last week and they told me there was a total of 20.45 kilometres in the city – that excludes off-road and park cycle tracks such as NUIG.
So lets look at that 20.45km
16.6km (8.3 each way) is made up of one route, from the WDR to Ballybrit along the SQR/QCB/BnT route
Then we have whatever the fark this is in Doughiska, 3.2km (1.6 each way but less if you wanted to be pedantic and literally just measure the bits themselves
Then we have bits like this on Thomas Hynes Rd with the same showing up at numerous other junctions around the city (Ballybrit Ind Est etc)
As well as some that act as filter lanes for cars
Or the ones that double up as parking
Lets not forget the magical disappearing bike lanes
So, actual quality, safe, protected bike lanes in Galway, probably only the WDR/SQR/QCB/BnT route qualifies and you still take your life into your hands at each junction, the rest is not worth really talking about especially the ones that are just paint
I hope you were able to explain that it waas to highlight the illegal car parking at the junction and on the yellow lines to your young niece?
She was shouting at the traffic again last Sunday with about 10 to 15 "campaigners" in tow. My young niece (not from Salthill) wondered why the lady was shouting and blocking the road!
Red light jumping is dealt with by a FCN so you won't get a prosecution unless you fight it and lose. I know someone who was nabbed for this at the top of Threadneedle Road, going through on an amber. The Guard's position was that you had to be fully across the junction before it turned red or you were guilty. It would be interesting to see that interpretation applied more widely.
As for registration plates, Copenhagen Police manage to enforce the rules there very thoroughly without them, going by the bitching I hear from an Irish friend who lives there about the fines he has had pay.
I don't think speeding cyclists is an issue here (we've still got high 50+kph speed limits).
Thousands of red lights are broken in Galway by motorists every day and I haven't heard of any motorist being prosecuted. Would this enforcement also begin?
Cyclists (and motorists) should 100% be procecuted for running lights and other offences but I don't think registration plates are necessary. That registration adds a barrier to entry for a sustainable mode of transport we want to encourage. Target enforcement instead, monitor a junction and have a Garda down the road ready to pull someone over (bike or car).

Goes to show backwards the UK is getting. They're also INCREASING public transport fares at the moment. It's as if they think if they do the opposite of the rest of Europe they'll be right.

Was it a balanced discussion, or just a one sided opinion piece?

The best part was straight after this segment, Galway Talks had the "Garda" slot! 😂
The Gardai have allowed illegal parking become the norm right around the corner from station at Coco in Salthill and they do nothing about it.
Maybe they will get embarrassed into doing some about it with segments like this on the local station and in the national Papers.
Yeah she was spot on with that.
Also highlighted the farce regarding bollards going up to protect a section of double yellow road but then getting told no when asking for them on poorly designed bike lanes
Seemed fine where I was, my 4 minute bike commute remained unaffected.
Interesting, totally agree with her "Red Herring" call out.
how is traffic this evening?
