I'm in the same boat, medical done, line manager interview done four weeks ago, heard nothing either way since. No news is good news

No, I was never contacted re references. Its literally been no contact either way since interview

I think you should do the process again and don't ask questions if its a job you want. Not sure I would mention your previous time unless asked at interview. It really could have been a simple oversight not responding to you or they filled a class by the time they were due to interview you.

Applied in Jan 19, all stages complete this time last year. Obviously Covid hasnt helped, but if I hear nothing this Autumn it will be 4 years since I started the process. If I was a Dub I'd have a couple of years done by now! Just been offered a promotion in my current job, its torture not knowing.
Take the promotion. A bird in the hand and all that…. Seriously u can always leave if driving comes up for u

Yeah, it seems weird to me that they keep running recruitment drives and end up with a huge panel of potential trainees who end up getting frustrated at the lack of progress once all stages of the recruitment process are completed.
They probably need to keep replacing the people who get fed up waiting and who move on with their lives.
Isn't the issue also about the number of people that can be trained at any given time? There's only two simulators, right?
The regional person I know who applied this year has been asked to attend assessments in 2 weeks. THey appear to be running 6 slots over 2 days for this stage. Not sure how many per session but possible up to 60 overall.
Maybe worth your while giving another go next time round.
Can they run a Dart class and a diesel class at the one time then? If not then anybody waiting for diesel class may forget about it for 6+ months at least
I would imagine they would be different simulators for different trains but I could be wrong. What has happened to the simulators that they had in Mallow? Surely they have more than 2.

It’ll depend where the most need for drivers is I’d imagine. There’s such a big pool of lads waiting (from regional areas) for quite a while now so it’s hard to know. I got a call from them today about it that’s the only reason I know

Question that maybe some of the existing train drivers can answer. I know the advertised starting wage is what it is (I think 45k) but is it possible to earn more in a year pretty early in your career?
I'd have to be making at least €50k or more for this to be worth it for me I think.
Earlier in the thread I recall reading something about there no shift allowances, subsistance, unsociable hour payments, or overtime premiums. Is that true?

As far as I know all the ‘extra’s’ are built into the wages so no possibility to make more. A train driver posted details of it before
That's pretty brutal. Shame the pay is relatively poor.

Not exactly. The call was to confirm I was still interested first of all and secondly that I’d be available for oct/nov start date. Once I said yes to those they said they’ll be in touch closer to the time. So all but offered a place it sounded like
