The key elements include six high speed charging hubs on motorways capable of charging eight vehicles simultaneously; 16 high speed charging hubs capable of charging four vehicles simultaneously; additional high power chargers at 34 current 50 kW locations; upgrading over 50 22 kW chargers to 50 kW, and replacing up to 264 locations with 528 charge points at the pre-existing pilot grade of 22 kW to next generation high reliability models.
Hi, I recently purchased a new ID3 and so far so good. My only issue is when charging at the ESB I only seem to get 10kw charge on my car. I have tried 2 different chargers and I am only getting this speed. Should this not be charging at 22kw or am I missing something?
No the car only has an 11KW onboard charger.
if you want faster charging you need to DC charge using a larger CCS plug at a eCars Fast Charge or Rapid Charge Point.. of which there aren't a whole lot considering the exponential growth in EV sales here.

Still no word on the replacement, but they've at least agreed to try to repair it sooner rather than later.
Theres a new eCars site in Tralee.
Its at the site of the Toyota dealers (Kellihers) and appears to be part of the petrol station on site. Its officially down as Kellihers Mace/Inver.
Looks like a 1 x 50 kw charger and a 150 kw unit.
Its on plugshare but no one has updated plugshare yet to say they've charged there.
Hopefully the layout is good as it's a nice location in the context of Tralee as a town.
Crucially though the 150kW unit has 2x CCS & 2x CHAdeMO plugs on it…
But are we again looking at a site with only 3 spaces, meaning the AC can block a space for hours on end?

I think if you park in the middle space on AC you'd effectively take out 2 spaces (1 150kW blocked, and 50kW limited to 22kW)
Gotta go for maximum damage with a single car 😁
Whatever about chademo, I think we'd all agree that putting AC there is a problem. For the space blocking reasons.
2x CCS & 2x CHAdeMO on a 150kW unit is a zillion times better than a 150kW unit with only 1 CCS & 1 CHAdeMO on it.
I just hope they retrofit the older 150kW units in this configuration, but knowing eCars, the 150kW units with only 1 of each plug will be scrapped to be replaced with brand new 4 plug units....
Under repair only a few days after the site goes live? I reckon they won't be activating the AC22 there
It's not live, or at least not officially launched. They might have disabled AC22, just not updated the app with the correct description like similar sites in NI where the AC is disabled.
I hope they did. That would be a really good idea. There's no need to have an AC22 at these chargers. Whatever about AC43, there can be no arguments about AC22 it's not a fast charger.
Screws over the earlier Zoe's though. The easy solution is it should have 4 parking spaces and signs showing where to park for specific plugs like at J14
There's 10x the number of 22kW AC around, if anything the Zoe's have it easiest
There are 9x eCars 22kW AC sockets in Tralee, so far from screwed over are the Zoe drivers…..

Went to templeville earlier to use the 50kw. Leaf was using the charger so as it's an older charger it won't charge CCS and chademo at once. Tried the ac43 and it wouldn't work at all. Kept saying "plug in cable" on the unit (it was plugged in).
This is the only "fast" charger for miles around here. Not much use when it now only charges 1 car even with 3 separate plugs.
Quick drive into kellihers as I was passing there a while ago. Didn’t check to see if it’s fully operational yet. I might be able to check tomorrow. There is still a bit of space around it regardless of only 3 marked out spaces. Badly needed addition to town and in a decent location.
Why in the name of all holy fcuk is that 50kW unit straddling one of the spaces that should exclusively be for the 150kW unit………

Of course it will happen. Anyone with a rear left socket will park there, because if they use the other space the cable won't reach.
When an extra 22kW charger effectively disables a 50kW charger, then yes more chargers CAN be a bad thing.
And it'll be a PHEV charging at 3kW 😉
I reckon I could park in that middle space and use the 150kW on my model 3 (rear left charge port)… the cable looks long enough (it’s already straddling the ground), and as long as the car in space 1 was parked nicely in his box, I could squeeze in a little tighter over the hatchlings at a bit of an angle…
the issue will be people taking the middle space for ease of plugging in, but plug into the 50kW unit because it’s closer, and cheaper….
If they pulled the 50kW unit forward a couple of feet, it'd probably satisfy every car... like a petrol forecourt layout.
I dont understand why there are all of these bonkers configurations.
Surely by now there is enough examples of EV charging installations and parking arrangements in Europe alone to come up with a couple of optimum designs to cover most situations. But no...lets go with some 'bespoke' arrangement each time that clearly is going to cause issues down the track.
That's the ideal layout in fairness, that's why petrol forecourts use them, also a cover would be nice
Heres a pic of a site in Eindhoven I took 2 weeks ago, granted the Netherlands are light years ahead of us, but you can see how well it's laid out. No matter what space you park in, its blatantly obvious which charger you should be using... whether its the Supercharger, the HPC's, the 50kW or the AC chargers...
