Some small but potent storms kicking off around the country. Worth a separate thread as this risk for big thunder and big lightning is there until tomorrow night at least. All parts at risk this evening but east and south main focus tomorrow.
Yep. Phone forecast originally had an 80% chance of thunderstorms at 2, now it’s 50% at 3. Might get some rain later on but that’s it I’d say.
typical met eireann make a big hullabaloo about something and 'jinx it' 😫
it was a damp squid/squib for me anyway (east-clare)
*unless something happens before the day is out
Tbf, north cork is currently getting hammered according to the radar.
Full scale riot in the sky! Mid-limerick. Impossible to know which flash belongs to which clap of thunder :o
Dublin AP reporting 27.6mm at 1400. That, on top of the 9.6mm at 1300, is 37.2mm in 2 hours. Impressive!
Standing on Tiknock hill looking over Dublin, massive cells to the west, north and some building over the other side of the mountains! Dublin is clear now but looks like some thing might move in soon 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
can confirm, kanturk area.
had rolling(?)/constant thunder for 45-60 mins, followed by a torrential downpour for around the last 20-25 mins. have to imagine there'll be dangerous road conditions for a bit after this.. its now just raining normal and the thunder has moved on, but that was an extreme downpour
newmarket at the same time had nothing, but it could be moving that way.
Which is the most reliable site/radar for predicting thunderstorms? Looked at few already and some are saying very different things. Apologies if already asked, but thread is already 16 pages long! 🙂
Huge raindrops just randomly falling here in Kildare
TBH, none really!
Already wetter than any day since November 2017!
just shows how hard it is for Met E to predict these downpours, I’m about 4km from the airport and there has only been 10mm in my backyard since about 1am.
(4mm overnight and 6mm in that heavy shower)
Massive pyramid looking cell to the northwest! Never seen a cloud top like that before!!
Coming now from the mallow direction.
Can’t upload any footage from my phone. Torrential rain with huge rumbles of thunder and lightning.
Some fairly hefty cells rapidly developed in the last while around Aughrim (Co. Wicklow).
Really your best bet is the Met Eireann radar.
Weather Maps - Met Éireann - The Irish Meteorological Service
Gives a good indication of where storms are developing and where they are moving towards. The little crosses indicate where lightning is occuring.
Nothing in Firhouse D24 sun is lovely giving intense heat but not a drop of rain! I was astounded to read about the torrential rain in North Dublin!
White fluffy clouds and hazy sunshine.
Still hoping for a bit of action later, it was great to see all those amazing pictures and videos of lightning!
Sferics now from that.
Taken in Limerick last night. Not my video.
Watch out for the fake pictures on the rounds again. theres one of ladies gaa team with a stock image for lightning.
Lightning tracker just pinged my watch! Strikes within 12km of me! (Tiknock hill still)
Ninja rain here in Donegal at the moment but not showing up on radar
Nothing happening in Clare, no cumulus looking cloud formations as of yet. I'd say it's not going to happen here anyhow.
Right under a slow moving thunderburst here south of Cahir for the last hour. Lots of sheet lightning, a few groundstrikes and torrential rain. Have left leccy on, though warned the young fella his PlayStation is in danger! When we were hit before, sockets in his room were blown out!
Blitzortnung.org right when it says strikes 0km away :-)
South County Limerick (Kilmallock/Kilfinane) getting absolutely hammered for past hour and half...constant thunder/lightning to the point it feels as if just no gap or break between them, and torrential rain
Between Ardfinnan and Clogheen rolling thunder, no flashes and no rain. So far.....
No sign of thunder in Limerick City.
Spoke too soon. Heavy deluge of rain and hail now, thunder dissipated temporarily, very dark.
Time of posts out by an hour? Only me?
Clouds building and some rumbles in South Wicklow
