Some small but potent storms kicking off around the country. Worth a separate thread as this risk for big thunder and big lightning is there until tomorrow night at least. All parts at risk this evening but east and south main focus tomorrow.

Way cooler countrywide this morning with temperatures in the teens......quite the change from recent times, however with humidity above 90% in many places, it's humidity that is leading many us to believe that it's warmer than it actually is.
Back to the lightning storms that we want to lighten the skies, there looks to be something trying to get its act together in an area roughly from Thurles to Kilkenny.
God I just did a workout and nearly fainted. There’s absolutely no air to breath, I’d rather 30oC heat with some air then this sticky , muggy horrible sh*t.

If there was any activity, apart from some rain, in South Kildare I slept through it. The pics and videos posted here are amazing so hoping something kicks off today.
Looked out the window there in West cork, clouds moving from north to south, but radar shows rain coming from South to North? Interesting
This event was a complete bust in Meath, had a few rain showers around 2am to 3am and that was it. Not a flash of lightning or rumble of thunder at any stage. Looks like the rest of the country did great tho. Meath is absolutely cursed for thunder and lightning. The wait since 1985 goes on.
Does anyone remember this day of lightning in 2003 at all?
Never hear anyone mentioning it but I can vividly remember it being dark nearly all day and near constant thunder and lightning for hours on end. Was spectacular

A letdown alright. It would feel alot worse if we missed out on snow though .
Lightning does cause lightening, so let it pass!!! Also auto correct can sometimes be a curse on the phone!!!
On topic, sun's out in Greystones now. 20.2c atm. Some convection building to my west over the Wicklow/Dublin Mountains.
The event is still on-going. Satellite and radar suggests that convection is initialising in Meath now. Something developing just south of Drogheda and also between Ashbourne and Balbriggan. And possibly a cell developing and moving over the Meath border from Maynooth. The cell between Drogheda and Julianstown may get sparky shortly.
Just like the damp squid that is always misquoted as damp squib for some reason!
Another little cell has just popped up over Delvin in Westmeath, near the border with Meath. The way things are going, Meath will be the hotspot for storms @Gonzo 🤣
In Balbriggan now and dark clouds are slowing creeping in. Feels like could be something brewing! Light rain has commenced
Yeah missing out on the snow is even more painful, but getting a good thunderstorm event is more rare than a good snow event in this country. Last night was a complete letdown for those of us in many parts of Meath, Dublin and Kildare looking for some sparks but the weather of the past 6 weeks has been fantastic so can't really complain too much, onwards now for chasing the next spell of fine and settled weather before the autumn closes in on us.

Not to go off topic too much but damp squib is the correct term. An explosive of firework is a squib so if you have a damp squib, it won't explode as intended.

So it looks like CORKS turn from about 2pm. Up to now its been nought or at best distant rumbles, flashes last night mainly from the east. Around city not much so far and not much rain either

Yip same here in Carrigaline .. especially inside. Already Missing the sun like we had last few days though and all that goes with it, even looking out knowing its there in a reliable as it gets for Ireland last few days :D
There was a fair light show for at least 30 mins in Kells about 11ish last night, so not a complete bust as you called it.

One of the best or worst night depending on your attitude of thunderstorms near Limerick since 1985. Had the video camcorder rolling for some of the activities and hopefully have on my YouTube channel Jpmarn Video later today.
