From my point of view this is of higher gravity that the usual islamic terrorism. I'm not blaming all religions, I blame a particular religion which had one of its highly regarded leaders declare that this man has to die because he wrote a book they didn't like and other leaders of this religion refused to condemn or withdraw it. This resulted in a series of murders and attacks that were not the work of individuals, or a fringe radical groups, no, this came from the high up and they still maintain it.

Islam does not have one voice because of the Shia/Sunni split and the Fatwa was issued by the Shia, the much smaller of the two parties. Like someone earlier linked the attack to the killing of the Al Qaeda leader to this attack even though Al Qaeda is Sunni and would not respect a Shia issued Fatwa.
