Reports he was punched and stabbed. Poor man been living under the proverbial axe of the fundamentalist lunatics for so long.
Hadi Matar is the published name of the suspect. Can’t find much about him..
Didn't he speak out about cancel culture in one of his books? maybe he was cancelled for that...
Suspect named, Iranian man acting on Islamic motivation.
We'll pretend it is a one off but how long would Rushdie have lasted in Clonskeagh. No, not long.
The protests against Rushdie in the 80s, tens of thousands strong in many European countries, should have been met with a robust police response.
You could say that about any demographic.
or indeed the left wing extremists
wasn't he once Eamon Dunphy's roommate ?
There was no education wealth or power.
It was always there. At the very basic level at some point, but it got upgraded big time over the course of time, . And of course, anyone who was too bold to invent something way out of the man made worship books, got the proper treatment... Some religions learned over the time to make compromises and some didn't. But at the end all of them are made on the same foundation and the same goal..to control etc.
Gender isn’t the cause ffs.
You're missing my point. The excuses vary, the perpetrators are always men. Religion, politics, personal pride: outcome is the same, more violence.
Of course militant Islam is a problem, but it's hardly the biggest cause of violence in the world. 11 innocent people were shot and killed by drug gangs in Mexico yesterday for no reason at all. This minority of violent men is the underlying problem, the rest is surface difference
Some of them are permanently at rest.
The cartoonists who drew insulting depictions of Muhammed won't rest easily ever again.
I suppose with the Satanic Verses published almost 34 years ago, a little complacency might have been present…. However I’m reading that there have been multiple attacks by islamists on people who translated the txt including the murder of a Japanese a translator of The Satanic verses…….
A religion of peace.. “ we will kill you for offending us or translating a book which does “..these values are unwelcome as are the people who espouse them, anywhere on this continent or should be…
You literally said Religion was the dumbest human invention. Your words not mine. You are clearly wrong and cannot accept it.
Religion helped early humankind flourish and progress. Many inventions came from its progression throughout history.
So your previous post is pure rubbish. It is not the dumbest human invention.

Massive goalpost shift alert
So when the only people who could read were clerics, and the richest institution in most countries was the church, often more powerful in practice than the monarch, that wasn't monopolising education, wealth and power. Uhuh.
Nobody cares about "early religion", early religion did not call for Salman Rushdie to be put to death for writing words.
Salman Rushdie is a writer of Indian origin who sets most of his work on the Indian Subcontinent and usually writes in the genre of magical realism. In the late 1980s he published a novel called " The Satanic Verses" which caused offense to the Ayatollah in Iran. This lead the Ayatollah to declare a fatwa on him and declare that the book should not be read by Muslims. I've never read "The Satanic Verses" myself, so don't know what exactly caused such a reaction, but the fact that it was a work of fiction, in the genre of Magical Realism at that, and any views expressed within would have been the views of a fictional character and not Mr. Rushdie himself seemed to be lost on the good oul Ayatollah. Obviously, no one pulled him aside and explained what a narrative voice is.
There was no education wealth or power. Early religion bonded tribes together and helped form social contract. Even early death rites and funerals gave man the safety net to progress as death was not believed to be the end but the journey. So your point is absolutely nonsense.
The problem in this case is precisely that a particular religion called for a man to be killed.
Nonsense. These things only happened because religions monopolised education, wealth and power.
Best wishes and much love to Salman.
Yes early religions helped a lot. Took only one nutcase to manipulate many for one reason... gain the power, gain personal advantages etc .. And as it goes, nothing changed on that matter, well machinery got bigger. Only difference now is, churches are slowly losing worshippers so they'll try whatever to keep clients coming in.
Anyway I don't mind religious people at all (live and let live guy here), but there is one thing I don't understand, if someone believes at whatever god, why that person need a church ? To be told what way to believe?
It doesn't matter a damn what the bloody percentage is. It only takes one to go ahead and do it.
Yeah I'm sure loads of boards users have called for people to be put to death because of things they've written or said 🙄
You could say the same about conquest and empire.
Religion and nationalism are very similar. It's all about in-groups and out-groups and loyalty to your 'clan' which can dehumanise people from outside that clan.
In normal times nationalism is like supporting a sports team but when it's taken to extreme it becomes oppressive and poisons people
The actual religious doctrines of Islam and Christianity are equally as distasteful as each other if taken literally
You can't jump into one side of a discussion and then distance yourself from that side. The lad said 'religion of peace strikes again' suggesting it is indeed all Muslims. I'm not running several chats at once. If you disagree, don't jump in to back him up.
So not all of them, but all of them.
I knew someone would come along and mention the 1 in a 1000 exception.
And which court case are you referring to, out of interest?
this
Always men? Lol, you obviously didn’t pay much attention to a recent court case.
What exactly did this fella say about Islam that made someone want to butcher him? Can someone give me a brief version of his critique?
