Do you?
Russia has hit Ukrainian cities where Amnesty stated there was no Ukrainian military activity.
Russia hit marketplaces in Syria. Again, no claims of any military activity.
Russia hits cities whether there is military there or not.
Vinnytsia was an obvious one. They fired missiles at the city, which is to the west of Kyiv and hundreds of miles from the front and "claimed" their target was some sort of meeting of international arms dealers (but instead killed a load of civilians).....an example of a blatant war crime.
Exactly, that was exactly what I meant about it being game changer. And even if it was a Ukrainian bomb that hit it, even by accident, I'd still blame the Russians for making it a target by using it as a launch point for attacks on Ukraine. For every little thing that is happening or will happen in the future in Ukraine, its all 100% Russia's fault, and theirs alone.
And how does that contradict anything I have said?
Russia have committed war crimes and have been called out as such - but that does not excuse the actions of the other side
If its the Russians fault for making the nuclear plant a target, is it not also the Ukrainians fault for making certain residential areas a target?
Amnesty are living in a fantasy land. Of course their actions are excused or not even requiring an excuse - are justifiable. Russia is hitting civilian targets regardless of military presence. How are Ukraine to defend them?
It is also nothing more than weasel words and both sidesism to draw any equivalence between Amnesty's criticism of Ukraine's action and that of Russia's.
You were asked what part of the Geneva convention Ukraine violated.
"You might want to give brief explanation of where Ukraine breached article 8, while also defending Russia for witdrawing from various protocols of the Geneva convention."
You replied to my post but not this one. Therefore it is reasonable to presume that you cannot.
@Hobgoblin11 is failing badly at it then.
You won't get an answer, The amnesty stupid comments report has given them the opportunity to say well both sides. Yet I have heard of no one else saying conventions have been broken not a single government. Well apart from one. I asked if the UN made comment got no answer.
Collaborator wounded in explosion of car in Starobilsk of Luhansk region
I'm reading that Amnesty Canada have issued a lengthy statement completely disassociating themselves from the Ukraine "report" and apologising for it - they suggest that a couple of rotten apples at the top of the movement were responsible for it. There are probably many good people within the movement, but it just takes a couple of jerks in the leadership to ruin things for everyone.
We can all see that Amnesty International have hugely discredited themselves. Not a great move for an organisation with well paid officials who rely on funding from states, philanthropists and public donations. They may backtrack, qualify and resign all they want, but considerable damage done. It's what happens when egos get too large.
Ego I guess wanting time in the press giving speeches that kinda thing. Has done damage though.
good news
how would it be while Ukrainian forces are alo firing artillery.Even if they're not the ones that causes an explosion both sides will blame the other. As we can see from Blinken's trip to Africa and Biden's to saudi Arabia most of the world outside of Europe and North America don't really care about the war in Ukraine. The mass migration that would ensue following any explosion would create even more significant problems for Europe.
How can we tell if it was Russia though? Both sides propaganda is off the charts. There is no way Ukraine would except responsibility for something like that as neither would Russia. The situation is dire.
Tbh if you got to the site and it was not to bad you would be able to tell by shell fragments. Russia is not lobbing NATO rounds about.
Western intelligence seem to know the colour of Putin’s stool
..
Do you reckon that you could point out what violations of the Geneva convetion that Ukraine have committed? Rather than just spam the same "both sides" guff all the time, actually put up or shut up?
Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
And some more possible good news.
In fairness that just sounds like Spain wanting Germany to pay for a previously commercially unviable pipeline.
Which they might, but for now it's only kite flying by Spanish politicians.
I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand. Given where the EU stand on gas it's likely to be more than that and is now a very viable consideration with Russia off-limits. You'd expect some fairly rapid movement on it if it is going to happen.
It’s Russias fault for every target in Ukraine. They shouldn’t be there at all .
The Spanish, who don't have a great track record of costing large infrastructure projects, have estimated it would cost 700 million and take 2 and a half years to connect Spain to France. For that kind of money and timeframe Germany could get another LNG terminal of its own and have greater energy independence.
That report suggests 8-9 months. It also suggests it's less about Germany than teh EU as a whole. Spain also have a connection to Morocco and Africa is considered an option for Europe anyway.
No, Germany has already backed the idea. Another LNG terminal in Germany isn't a solution. Most LNG comes through Spain and Portugal anyway which is why the idea makes sense. It would also allow for gas from Algeria to flow along the same line increasing capacity by 30%.
The real issue is moving gas from Norway/Iberian peninsula to every country east of the Rhine.
There is the baltic pipeline to Poland
And there is the trans adriatic pipeline from Azerbaijan
Maghreb-Europe pipeline from Algeria
Problem is to get all of them interconnected to neigbouring countries and hubs.
Alot of the infrastructure is allready in place, its just to join into existing main pipelines and hubs
That report said 8-9 months to get it to the Spanish/French border which is f-all use to the Germans but great for the Spanish. At the very bottom of the report is the kicker, 700m and 2.5 years to connect to the French grid.
There have been discussions between Scholz and other countries and the article does state German support for the idea. Germany has been known to support things, even things that don't benefit them directly.
