Do you have any tattoos and why did you get them?
Always interesting to see the different tattoos that people have. They seem to be more popular than ever.
Conclusions
The results corroborate previous research indicating that body modifications could have special significance for individuals who have survived adversity, in particular interpersonal trauma at the hands of caregivers. These findings could inform screening procedures and low-threshold access to psychotherapeutic care.
I have six. You wouldn't even know unless you see me in a bikini or naked. Had a perfectly happy childhood and am a pretty well adjusted working professional. It never ceases to amaze me how het-up people get about tattoos on here.
I broke up with a girl one time because she had a tattoo that said "swings and roundabouts" on her person....
I also know a lad who has a fighting irish leprechaun on his shoulder....he regrets getting it...i dont blame him, its shìt!!
In my opinion, tattoos only look well on those with darker skin colour...
The pasty white Irish cant pull it off.....
.....
No never did.
There was a lad in our town who got a tattoo of Pol Pot on his thigh back in the 80s. Put the rest of the town off tattoos for life.
Where as I had a difficult childhood and have no tattoos.
The reason I posted that study was its an interesting link in the discussion on tattoos but its not an absolute correlation.
There are many people who use tattoos to mark a sense of survival of some difficulty or other, there are also those who do not.
I find the problem isn't so much tattoos themselves, it's the quality of artists that always put me off getting them.
A huge percentage of tattoos are terribly executed. There are some very good tattoo artists out there, but you really have to do your homework.
Unfortunately a lot of people don't, chose where they get one based on who just happens to be in a studio that day and don't really realise the variance in ability.
Three tattoos so far and eight or nine piercings - depends if you count an Industrial as one or two.
No childhood traumas, I just like both, when they're done well.
I dislike most tattoos I see because the vast majority are either poor quality or unoriginal motives picked from a catalogue. And don’t get me started on couple tattoos and idiots getting family trees inked.
Mine are unique and I spent a lot of time and money on them. Haven’t regretted them at all and I don’t care what others think of me as a result.
Have none. I think they are manky looking. For a while it was about having something different but now every clown looks like a three year old attacked them with a rubber stamp while they were sleeping. Why would you want to look like that for life?
I think there will be a fortune to be made in tattoo removal in the future.
No tattoos but I did consider getting a tattoo of my daughters hand print when she was baby but then thought it was something someone does when they may lose a child and that put me off doing it.
Don’t have any, don’t mind them on others. Some can look cool enough.
Not really a fan of the hand, neck or face ones but as long as I’m not being forced to get them it doesn’t bother me.
I'm 29 and I don't have any tattoos and most people I know my age don't either.
Now I do know people with tattoos.
I have considered getting one in the past but I don't know what I'd get and where'd I put it.
I don't have kids. I could get one of a dead or living relatives name but they wouldn't like it and I don't think having there name on my arm would make me feel more connected with them.
I don't like flowers, skulls, snakes, wings, animals( in general), childhood cartoons as tattoos.
I sometimes feel tattoos can look very depressing and dark for my personality.
Don't like anything religious, spiritual or holy.
None here - I have nothing against them and would get one but haven't been inspired by anything enough to get one.
I'm not a Maori so not gonna get a Maori design. Same goes for celtic designs, don't really see the point of those.
If I had a big personal achievement like going to the Olympics or having a number 1 record it would be worth a tattoo, because those things are quickly forgotten but worth commemorating as personal achievements. Neither are likely to happen anytime soon. Bryan cranston and Aaron Paul got breaking bad tattoos which is fair enough - getting a breaking bad tattoo because you watched and liked the show is a bit silly imo
Nothing against them but never really into them. Also, too hairy.
Got my 6th there recently, typical upbringing, work in a "professional" role and environment.
Mine are all in places that aren't in your face type areas, however with the warm weather of late they are a bit more on display and I've actually received a number of complements this week on them.
I'm slightly darker than your average "pasty Irish skin" so maybe that helps and all mean something to me and took me a lot of research and thought to design them.
Have none, rarely see any decent ones either. Most look crap.
Yes a have good few( 8) but none can be seen if i wear a t-shirt or shorts ,
I don't regret any but i only got my first on at 30 & all mark different moment in my life ,
I plan to get more ,but will keep them on my torso , shoulders, & upper legs ,
Each to there own but i try to get one's that mean something with moments in my life, not just something that looks cool if you get me, But if that's what you like go for it,
For example , Last one i got was realist portrait of a picture from my wedding day on my pec,
One bit of advice if you do get one is save even if it takes an extra year & only get really good artist its there for life ,
No I would never get a tattoo, I dislike people with sleeve tattoos, they are the ultimate "tramp stamp". I have even seen people with high standing jobs with them. I don't care about your wealth or standing in the community, I am superior to anyone with a sleeve tattoo.
Sleeve tattoos are appalling looking especially with the black ink, not a drop of colour in them. I could almost forgive them if they were colourful. Those tattoos will look dreadful whenever those normies skin gets wrinkly.
The way I view tattoo is that you are getting a temporary trend permanently stamped on yourself.
Ooh this is really interesting
Gave it serious consideration when I was about 30… wanted a nice simple tattoo of one of my favourite musical artists, from a relatively little known record of theirs … looked online and a few people had absolutely class versions, some looked tacky as hell though…
What is a high standing job ?
Matt Taylor ,Michelle Thaller both highly established in Nasa have sleeve tattoos ,
Most of the worlds most famous serial killers have no tattoo ,
No "well adjusted" person posts on internet forums never mind this forum. Also being a "working professional" doesn't automatically make you an upstanding good person.
Why there's no option for No, but I regret it.
Keep thinking about it for years, but still no go. Not sure what to get so just keep thinking..
Jesus, dude, go out for a walk or something, will you?
No i don't,, if i had a good reason; then perhaps i'd do like this bloke, and get a barcode tatted on me wrist 😃
Don't have any but said I would get one when I released my album. Did that last year and still not got one yet...
Should they not be called graffiti. Don't people win court cases nowaday's over getting a burn or similar mark on their skin.
Note the use of the word "could" in the conclusion.
My tattoos have special significance for me, not because of "surviving adversity" but to mark positive events in my life. Have ten and more planned.
Spent this summer in Zurich, in the parks and at the lakes and swimming pools, easily 60% of adults (all genders) have tattoos, and not small tattoos, they're easy to see from a distance.
