There's not that many 7 seater vehicles to begin with, generally one or two per manufacturer
The list of 7 seat EVs isn't great, but it's more than 0. There's options from Nissan, Citroen, Mercedes and Tesla
VW also have the 7 seater ID.6 in China, there's reports they'll be importing several thousand to Europe but will probably be LHD only
Cheapest ID.3 is €35k for a 58kWh Life, so somewhat South of €40k
There's also the 45kWh version which was around €30k but isn't available right now, hopefully will be taking orders next year
When we bought our ID.3 1st it was cheaper than a similar equipped Golf auto 1.2 Petrol, but had a lot more power. At the time it looked as though the lower powered/smaller battery ID.3 was going to be available at about 30K (In the UK they were available from about 27K(Euro) for a short period.
But we all know what happened soon after..
last year maybe?
From €44,285.00 3
-5000 euro grant. https://www.volkswagen.ie/en/new-cars/id3.html#MOFA
the cheapest corolla with a 3-spoke steering wheel, which is missing from the more expensive spec cars is €29,130.
https://www.toyota.ie/models/corolla-saloon
Is the spec of the Corolla the same as the ID3? If not then you are not comparing like for like.
I'm not really sure why you don't just compare the ID3 to the Golf which is VW own car in the same class.
Read up.
What more spec do you need. it has a 3 spoke leather steering wheel which is not mentioned on the more expensive trims.
No problem if VW produced a lower spec ID3. Personally I'd prefer a lower speced lower priced option which is why lower specced ICEs are still attractive for many.
Didn't realise the Golf was a class above the corolla. Personally Ive always considered the Golf to be one of the blandest cars around. I know its supposed to have a higher perceived quality but soft touch plastics dont do much for me.
It's not all about initial price, especially if you're paying PCP or HP. Then the total . monthly outlay is surely more important.
Surely if you're saving 3k a year on fuel, it makes sense to pay 5k more upfront and save 4k over the first 3years for a faster, cleaner, quieter, smoother car.
Lack of 7 seaters is definitely an issue though for a minority of people (around 10%of families) that have 3+kids
It’s missing about 80bhp for a start
missing the point, the id3 was 35k and a corolla 30k according to amazin, the links provided show the prices now, nearly 10 k in the difference, if you want to compare bhp and so forth go right a head
Agree if you are buying new, can get your hands on one, can charge at home, and the car suits your needs, there are savings to going EV.
For the rest, its good that there continues to be other options. Also for the majority of people who buy used, it will be some time yet before EVs become a viable option.
Don't go by the configurator, it's always been dicey on the VW site
The product guide was always the one to go by
Are you saying the VAG software is a bit shite?
Oh I've never said it was any good. Adequate would be the nicest way I can describe it
CARIAD is a total disaster. If VW don't sort that out and start making a lot more EVs with a lot more margin, so they can pay off some of their loans, they'll be toast 😕
Sacking Diess was the stupidest thing they could have done, shot themselves right in the foot there for starters. Maybe the unions are on a path of self destruction, not seen since those in the UK in the 70s that brought down their indigenous auto industry
Well in their defence, he was directly in charge of Cariad and it's so far been a disaster
I think a lot of VW's problems with software is that they've no idea what they're doing (they're basically starting from scratch) and they're looking for some very particular skill sets
If you look at the Cariad careers pages, there's a lot of job postings open for engineers with lots of experience with autonomous driving systems, real time OS and the like
How many people in the world realistically are skilled in that area? Maybe a few hundred, and then how many are in Germany or willing to move there? Not many I'd wager
Not to mention the fact that every other car manufacturer is looking for the same thing, and I'm not sure VW is exactly the greatest company to work for in the world
So, in that environment where you can't just hire or buy in the knowledge you need, you need to develop it internally. That takes times and investment, something which VW has never had to do, at least in the software world
I suspect that's where Deiss and others in VW dropped the ball, and now they're playing catch-up and struggling as a result
The BYD Tang (currently only available in Norway) is a 7 seater SUV, with a 84kw battery and a towing capcity ~1400kg for around NOK600,000 (approx €60k). 2023 model expected to have a 100kW battery - expect a price increase accordingly. Expected to be released elsewhere in Europe ond of this year or early next year. No word on RHD model yet for UK.
Fisker Ocean will initially be sold as a 5 seater, but its expected a 7 seat version would follow (probably 2024 onwards). Production starting in November, with RHD versions being made available for UK, although probably not until well into next year.
The new Mitsibishi Outlander PHEV is also a 7 seater, but not being sold in Europe at this stage as part of Mitsi's (partial) withdrawl from EU. Its based on the Nissan Rogue (US verison of the X-Trail) architecture.
Yeah it looks like the RHD market in Europe gets ignored once again
Next election I'm voting for whoever says we'll convert the country to LHD and build a high speed rail line to Europe 🤣
It'll be a phased approach though:
One way to get that needed EV depreciation for the second hand market...🙂
On my short travels today I only saw three EVs. An EQS, a Model Y and an iX. No recession here.
If it wasn't for Northern Ireland I could see logic in switching over.
Can you imagine theayhem at the border
Half the community switch over, the alliance party drive in the middle and unionists refuse to change from how London do it.
I was charging at Ionity gorey yesterday in my MX75, and either side of me were 222 registrations, on the left a lovely blue BMW iX40 and on the right an equally impressive silver Etron GT. There's certainly money out there, reminds me of all the range rover sports purchased in '06
id hope for the extra 60/70k that the Etron GT was more than equally impressive 😁
I was looking at an ix and to get it at a realistic trim level you're at 95-100k. Etron GT is 130-140, so more like 30k than 70 but point taken. And to be honest I'd prefer the iX
m'kay.....was it very dark.
sorry i read that as i40 not ix40 my bad.
but prefer an ix over an etron GT, 😯
I have seen a few now and i want to like them, its a great car by all accounts, but it is a munter. We are changing our etron 50 and despite looking at the alternatives im getting an etron 55 sportback as the other cars in the segment arent doing it for me.
But we all have different tastes!
Saw my first Taycan Tourer today, sitting at a pleb charger
Now THAT is fine looking piece of machinery
IMO it's better looking than the E-tron GT, and one of the best looking cars out there
Although I'm pretty sure that rear spoiler is the same one from and ID.4 😜
