What answer are you expecting though (thinking of the bigger picture - not Ireland's energy supply mismanagement specifically)? 🤔 There is no deus ex machina here. Given how much gas (and oil) Russia was supplying Europe with before they started their invasion + how long a period that dependency was built up over I don't think there are immediate replacements for it all. Crawling back up Putin's arse looking for gas is just not an option, it won't be very pleasant at all up there.

I live in Germany and people are already feeling the pain re: energy costs and though there's concern I think most people are more angry towards Russia than saying "let them take Ukraine so our energy prices go down". Whatever happens I don't think there's going to be a reset of German-Russian relations while Putin is in power, there is a lot of mutual animosity there now and Germany knows it made a big mistake re: energy and needs to correct it. I think (and hope) most people would even accept some rationing and put on an extra jumper than capitulate to Russian blackmail.
People also have a false idea of how cold German winters are. They used to be cold, now they're often not much different to an Irish winter with maybe a brief cold snap in January or February. Households will get by. Industry is the bigger question. We'll soon find out

Interesting analysis of the Crimea attack. (Concerning the simultaneous explosions of the 'fuel trucks' - that could have been caused by ammo exploding near both trucks and setting them off simultaneously)

He is joking about the cigarette butt. The base was already on fire before those two explosions so they could have been secondary explosions. But what caused the initial fire?

Let’s start with the simplest possible explanation. The Russians had a fuel spill in that area and a cigarette butt set it on fire. I’ve worked loading and unloading 767 cargo planes. I was present when a K-loader (used to load the planes) went over a raised part of the tarmac which tore a hole in the bottom of the loader. The fuel came out fast and spread fast. It is not easy or quick to clean up a fuel spill. We cleaned it by laying down material to absorb it, then sweep that up. Had an ignition source been present, we would have been in trouble. Particularly with a 767 overhead. And this was a really small spill. If an actually fuel truck has a serious spill it would be far more dangerous. I personally feel this is the simplest and most likely cause. Related scenarios would be a grass fire, old leaky oil drums or a mishap loading a munition onto a plane.

Yes but at the end of the first paragraph he says "(And contrary to the title, I obviously don’t know for sure)" so he makes light of the title citing cigarette butts. I'm beginning to subscribe to the on-site accident theory. The Uks. have not said it was their operation. Surely if it was they would say so if only to demonstrate to the west that they can win. Also it would be a great morale boost to their troops. But they are not forthcoming. Much as I would like it to be a Ukrainian attack I don't see how they could do it. Unless it was a small attack (suicide drone?) that had the bonus of secondary explosions that blew the whole place up.

Why would you even consider an accident before any other forms of attacks? When a large military base situated in or close by a war zone blows up the most likely explanation is an enemy attack.
Surprisingly good article on the state of the Russian economy in the Daily Mail. One thing is clear - the Kremlin are lying on an industrial scale and nothing that they say, nor any figures that they give can be taken at face value.
Well I considered the other forms of attack first. I'm just thinking out loud here. The two big explosions don't seem to be from a strike. They seem to be secondary explosions - two fuel trucks exploding simultaneously? Hard to know. I would not argue either theory too vigorously 'cos I don't know either way.

Ukraine is getting the best live intel from the thirstiest enemy of Russia in the USA. I can't wait until it's safe enough for them to tell their stories of how they watched inept Russians line up targets in nice clumps for the sacrifice. It must be driving them insane having to watch all those targets get passed by because they can't intervene. I can only imagine the shock and awe if NATO decided to attack the targets at once. Russia would be blown back to the 1700s.
