Completely agree that Salthill plan was very poorly engineered - designed by the council to fail. It's already a designated primary route on the longer term cycle network plans.
cycle lane shouldn't be on the prom, it should be from threadneedle road through dr mannix rd and on into town.
Covers schools and facilitate getting to and from the city center.
Should be both as people travel on bikes on both
Maybe, but funds aren't unlimited and we don't live in a perfect world.
building bike lane on the prom ain't a priority when there are other locations where it should be done first.
I have to ask though, how are the people of Salthill not mortified at the amount of social media space they take up with the every day problems of traffic and travel all over the Country, that everyone else just gets on with.
....
The Salthill plan was a disaster on paper and completely unsustainable,...
So let me get this straight, you are complaining about Salthill people posting too much on social media about their traffic issues, yet you continue to post on social media about Salthill's traffic issues ??🤔
GCC getting called out again in the Journal by a local mum, for their inaction on the Salthill area where she cycles with kids on a regular basis
"By a local mum", you could just say by Grainne Faller, who I'd say the majority knew it was going to be when you said that. It's not as if she's not well known from these kinds of Twitter posts, articles, letters etc.
🤷♂️
A minor quibble.
The circus is there for 9 days. It IS temporary. No one believed that the cycle lane trial was temporary.
No.
I post occasionally about Salthill traffic, here. Hardly social media. Maybe anti-social media.
I'm talking about people, like Grainne Faller, who is one of 6 or 8 twitter warriors who believe that Galway in general and Salthill in particular, ought be arranged to their liking and no other. Not a bit of self-awareness between them.
How that qualified for Faller to get an 'opinion' piece in The Journal, I cannot say, but I trust we'll see a right to reply from the Salthill businesses and the likes of Age Action before long.....
Here's actual video footage exposing the other 5 Twitter warriors...
Was the concern that the temporary trial would be a success and could lead to a permanent improvement?
I wonder if Age Action will involve local older people in their response?
Because it’s okay to be antisocial if you own a car presumably
Yes.
The farce makes the paper of record
...
If People Before Profit was backing my cause, I'd be looking hard at what I was supporting.
They're populists, if there's a market for it they'll back it, fairly straightforward.
Some of the recent antics of local councilors highlighted in the article below.
Millars Lane upgrade kicks off tomorrow with a 6 month schedule of works along the route.

What a dreadful article.
Disjointed, unedited, unreadable. And of course, not one bit objective.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a thread dedicated to improving Galway cycling infrastructure. Then this thread would be bearable, and useful
if only there was some way to start such a thread!
See I have zero interest currently in the cycling infrastructure in Galway, so for me to create such a thread wouldn't be constructive.
I do care about traffic in Galway. I like to know about planned roadworks and ad hoc issues. Unfortunately, such issues get lost very quickly in this thread as the same discussion topics relating to a cycling agenda get brought up over and over and over and over again
Suppose I'll continue listening to gbfm and reading twitter to get the news I care about
For years this thread has been a catch all for anything and everything to do with getting around Galway, regardless of the mode (walking, cycling, PT or cars).
GBFM are discussing the lack of cycling infrastructure this morning... :-) It's an ongoing real issue so unlikely to go away for as long as nothing improves - around 20 years with no progress now.
Cycling is traffic, but maybe a separate thread on traffic disruptions or roadworks would work well?
very little discussion about anything else except cycling by the same posters. any post with regards to current road closures, congestion (motorised), accidents etc is quickly swallowed up by twitter posts of cyclists.
i would also dispute the claim that this thread was cyclist heavy for years. only in recent times.
if there was a mod here there should be separate thread dedicated for the cyclists enthusiasts .
