2022 WTA Tour
2022 ATP Tour
Qualies action should begin tomorrow (December 31st) so time to get the thread underway.
Here's to hoping we'll see some great tennis/storylines this year.
Off-court coaching allowed on trial for the rest of the year on the ATP
Has been going on anyway and very hard to deal with for officials due to hand signals and foreign languages.
Also very inconsistent reactions to it too - Tsitsipas getting heavily panned but no real mention of it in others' cases like Alcaraz for example. (and there are plenty plenty more on both the ATP and WTA tours)
Yeah its obviously very hard to quit that feeling/adrenaline rush but in Murrays case I think he will regret the extra years.
Alcaraz into a third set vs Paul - probably should have finished it in two and has a match on now
Just tuned in for most of third set. Alcaraz beating himself. Ferrero pointed to his temple in explanation
I must say, losing twice in a row to sinner surprised me. Sinner seems to be playing really well though.
The murray thing is interesting for sure. Agree with most of the above. Fritz played unreal. Murray probably fancies his chances against the non top 8 but losing to the likes of isner at Wimbledon doesn't provide confidence
To be fair to Raducanu least shes won a grand slam. Alcaraz has never been to a semi and recently lost to the world no 34 on a hard court in the first round there. Paul wasnt defending champion thats for sure , has only one 1 tournament in his life. Atp250. Alcaraz did pick up a set though and Raducanu didnt so there is it that.
Paul played very well there in fairness.
Great entertaining finish to the match -
Alcaraz showed some balls when facing match points.
Alcaraz should have taken the second set - hit a couple of forehands long that needed more spin on them a he was further up the court
cost him dearly in the end - he probably thought that he was through
Paul was better in the third set and there is no argument there - Alcaraz had to pull something special out to win any point in that set
on the other hand Raducanu hasn't been able to string together 3 wins at any tournament since September 2021
you won't find anyone in the Top 65 of the WTA who hasn't managed to do that in the same timeframe
she has been terrible - as if Raducanu is remotely as capable as Alcaraz in the game of tennis!
I wonder has the excessive hype affected Alcaraz? Hes really shouldnt have lost that match.
Shes sitting on 1 grand slam ,Alcaraz looks nowhere near winning a slam. Maybe the french.
Looking forward to this next one , i reckon we will have 3 sets.
yep she has a slam but that's an embarrassment for the WTA Tour more than anything else considering the actual level shown over the full year
Do you think the hype has gotten to Alcaraz? He looks very beatable on the hard stuff.
No, Alcaraz is strong mentally - he was just a bit lackadaisical on a couple of key points today - that's about it - he would have the win otherwise
That he will learn from
He's still having an amazing year at 2nd in the Race to Turin he's up to 4th in the world.
He's the youngest player to get inside the ATP Top 5 since Nadal - that's the most impressive talent in over 15 years
Hardly not performing!
Djokovic didn't win a slam until he was 20, Federer was a couple of weeks off 22 and they are two of the best ever to play the game - it's not easy to win a slam on the ATP
Seles had 8 slams before she turned 20 on the WTA - it's just not comparable in that respect
Nadal got one earlier because he was a freak on clay even at 19
his serve needs to be more consistent at times - lost too many points on his second serve today compared to his usual stats on second serve
he's not the tallest at just 6 feet so is never going to be the biggest server but I think that he'll find a solution
Yeah but I think youll agree the ranking means jack **** at the moment. Yeah his serve looks way too inconsistent to fulfill these 30 slam prophecies. I dont think hes winning a slam until Novak and Nadal are shite/retired. There will be a lot of new winners after that , id expect medevev to win some more , Zverev maybe 1 or 2 , Sinner defo a couple , Alcaraz a couple., FAA maybe. The atp must be terrified , which is why i presume they hyped poor Carlos to no end after Madrid.
who said he was going to win 30 slams - only an absolute moron would say that.
he'll definitely win some slams but nobody can say how many.
Djokovic is the only real ranking aberration at the moment - Alcaraz would still be in the Top 5
The ATP has at least 10 decent consistent players who get to the quarterfinals of big events with regularity - they are not "terrified"
Nadal and Djokovic (barring injury he will stay until 40 but will be fading as time goes on obviously) will go eventually and as 2 of the best players ever by definition are going to have a gap but there are consistent performers who have rivalries and that's what's most important
if you take the WTA as a comparison there hasn't been consistency in many years - a slam winner can be seen to lose multiple early rounds soon after
Loads on the interwebs, they hyperbole was truly astonishing, they look a bit silly since!
I haven't seen it - you must be frequenting the silly parts of the web tbh!
It's just as idiotic to expect a player to be the greatest every single tournament in his development- having a successful season each season and showing progression is what's most important and he's done that in spades over the last year winning 2 masters titles on the way - Sinner who has been around a year longer doesn't have one for example
the guy is great to watch and is a winner - should have finished off Paul today and that's something he will be less likely to do in the future
Great seeing the rankings messed up at the moment when they throw early round matches like Medvedev against Kyrgios.
Absolutely!! Hahah kgyrios is some man for am implosion
Kyrgios let his concentration slip badly in that tie-break and with it the set
Hard to see him win the second set now
Lol that aged well. I actually thought this match would come down to tie breakers in each set.
And has the break in the 3rd
I thought it might be a bit of craic chatting about possible outcomes in real time. Will leave it off in future! Note to self: not chatting with friends watching it together on tv
Krygios breaks in third while acting almost dead with fatigue, great fun!
Kygrios is another ranking abberation. Hes playing top 5 standard at the moment , Djock , nadal , Medvedev , kygrios and alcaraz/sinner. Is he a legitimate potential us open winner? No novak?
That was a great match. Love him or hate him he does play a good match. Another good match up on now between Tiafoe and Fritz.
True but he has been climbing the past while and is now top 40, surprised the highest he has been in the world is number 13 and that is way back in 2016.
Something definitely clicked recently, Wimbledon obviously a massive boost to his confidence. Could be very dangerous at US open. Good opportunity for him!
Interested to see the Jack Draper Tsitsipas match but bit late so might watch tomorrow.
Norrie match against van de Zandschulp should be a decent contest too.
Kyrgios would be 15th in the world with Wimbledon points - and him getting to the final the way he did was an aberration in itself due to Nadal pulling out of a semi and Berrettini getting Covid who he would have met plus other players out - so who is to say he would have those points except for those factors in any case
Kyrgios could meet Dimitrov seeded 15 in the next round so it's only a one round effect - not exactly hugely significant in the context of where they met here
over 3 sets on a hardcourt he can beat anyone as he has already proved over the years and he has been more consistent than prior years this year.
