What is your point?
When Trump was elected as president of the US in 2016, he couldn't wait to announce his intention to run again. I think he did so at a rally held shortly after his inauguration. Yes, that's usually a given for an incumbent president, but still Trump was more gung-ho about it than most. This time, he still hasn't officially declared anything, which given his penchant for vengeance and dislike of losing, I find interesting. For months and months he's been making statements to the tune of "when the time is right, I will let you all know, and I think you're going to be very happy", which is just vague enough to leave wiggle room.
Is Trump unsure of his ability to get funding for another run? Does he find the idea of losing again too much to bear? Is the Republican party establishment desperately pleading with him not to run again in back channel conversations? I doubt it's anything to do with the current investigation. If anything, he'd play off that, "they're trying to take me down!", which he is, but what I mean is it wouldn't stop him officially announcing his intention because he has little to no shame.
If he announces he is running again he falls under election campaign finance rules.
It's simply a grift to get as much free, and unaccountable, cash as possible before he actually has to do something.
Nothing to do with unsure of his ability. He 100% believes he will win, he 100% believes that he always wins
What backfired?
Comey testified that Trump committed obstruction of justice?
People were prosecuted. Many were pardoned, including Roger Stone, whom the FBI also raid, whom MAGA also spewed out similar doomsday rhetoric in defense of.
Wasn't he threatened by the GOP that if he declared, they'd cut his funding?
Bannon set his hair on fire suggesting that the FBI is going to Fred-Hampton the former president
So they are saying he declassified the stuff but the paperwork wasn't done, or it wasn't classified.
Now they are switching to the FBI planting evidence in MAL. Sounds like they are trying to get ahead of the story here....
Backfire how? like his campaign chairman actually passing information to the Russians?
Hard to tell of course because polling isn't really isn't that great an indicator (despite what some people post) with the amount of time that will pass between now and the election, but some Democrats would like to have him run as a Fox News poll showed 55% of registered voters view him unfavourably and would vote against him. This of course is going to change multiple times over the next few weeks/months etc until he declares or not, except with the similarly minded and simple minded who would always vote for him.
That was their funding for his legal costs, which he has been conning his supporters for also claiming that the GOP left him high and dry if I remember correctly.
The FBI planted.....? Oh ho ho ho.... I wonder what they dug up.. Will be some time before we know I assume. As many have said, they weren't there to gather up newspaper clippings and we there because they expect to find something.
Unless, y'know, GQP stunt.... (Almost had a typo there)
Curiouser and curiouser...
It appears this poster may have deleted this.
To clarify..
Trump finds a new seasonal lawyer to figurehead his absurd attempts to gaslight the facts of the FBI raid
apparently the MAGA marching orders are to accuse the FBI of planting evidence - even though Trumps lawyers were there the entire time and would have witnessed any such thing.
Oh my god.
They just keep dumbing things up for themselves.
Now Gaetz is calling for Reparations - for January 6 felons.
Good luck with black voters Matt.
How they figure that given he wasn't shot dead during the execution of the warrant?
I wonder what else Alex Jones and Roger Stone talked about
Because it wasn't (just) praying for your cancer stricken wife - it also apparently included "intimate communication" of nude photos of Alex Jones' wife.
When the hearings convene in September and the committee has a tranche of Alex Jone texts and 25 boxes total of things that were stolen to Mar A Lago, things are bound to get a little spicy. No wonder folks are dogwhistling for violence today, if we all sit down like rational adults and listen to all the evidence their guys are gonna go to jail, (again in Rogers case) lol.
I also bring you McCarthy vs. McCarthy
And Pence
Well within 90 days of an election.
Pirrot lost her **** when cohosts suggested we calmly wait for more factual information.
Pirro is 100% correct. They raided the house of an ex president who was more than likely going to put forward his name for re election soon,
if the FBI are going to do that raid then they must release immediately the reasoning for the raid and all evidence to back it up
if they don’t than the optics look terrible and all rational normal thinking people should be angry with this raid, it undermines the jan 6 hearing and makes the FBI look biased
its no better then when comey intervened against Hillary Clinton just before the election, he intervened where he had no right. Bizarrely he than went on to turn against trump.
Weird how Irish people are so invested in American politics
Yeah, parochialism is a much better outlook on things
They're not that invested in American politics. I would say that the average Irish person has little idea of what happens at most levels of American politics on a daily basis.
What Irish people are watching is the efforts of Trump and his cronies to dismantle American democracy if that's what it takes to gain power. That concerns the entire western world, because if the USA goes rogue, it completely flips the script for Europe and its own security.
Is trump unable to release the warrant details or something?
But all Trump asked for was Pay the way in NATO. Germany stop getting hooked on Russian Gas. USA has always been pretty rouge America First is not something Trump invented. They had to be badgered into WW2. They would have gone into Iraq solo. Whole host of things. Sure one press used Contras to get around congress.
So?
They opened a new investigation into hillary clinton 5 days before the 2016 general election. She was on the ballot. And he didn't "have no right?" First I'm hearing about it. Sure Fox, Republicans etc. never seemed to bring up his lack of authority. Were they not worried that you know, that they might have set some kind of precedent, that might come back to haunt them in august 2022? Whoops.
This happened 90+ days from an election and he's in no way going to be on a 2018 ballot.
Announcing your candidacy for president is not a get-out-of-criminal-investigations-free card.
If the FBI is under any legal obligation to "release immediately the reasoning for the raid and all evidence to back it up" then cite the chapter and verse.
They had to lawfully show it to a judge, and their evidence to back up the search. They got this all cleared. Trump has a copy of the warrant, his lawyers have confirmed. They did not indicate there was anything illegal about the search in their remarks about the warrant. His lawyers represented him at MAL at the time of the search.
What does this have to do with the January 6 investigation? They have already indicated this is related to violations of the Presidential Records Act.
Big oof
The hypocrisy of the Republicans is always hilarious to watch in those Daily Show clips.
They are now asking to defund the FBI, the same people who told us law enforcement was sacred not that long ago. You couldn't make this shi* up.
100 years from now academics will look back and wonder why these people choose Donald Trump as the hill to die on
This, along with the search warrant, should be released by Trump to prove that this is a witch hunt!
Suppose it gives them plenty of room for all the time foil...
Well the fbi did look into Hillary Clinton’s Emails and found that she I think they said she showed poor judgement on having the server but didn’t do anything illegal because she never physically removed anything.
And we don’t know whether the fbi aren’t looking into Hunter Biden or not and we shouldn’t unless of until there is something to tell.
it’s so stupid how some republicans are trying to spin this. This action had to be approved by a judge, the secret service were informed, and trumps Lawyer was present so no it wasn’t the Miami office of the FBI deciding that they go enter that residence for **** and giggles.
And? As others have said many many MANY times, Hilary was investigated weeks before the election. So that argument is null and void and should be ignored. This argument is dead and closed. The Republicans closed that in 2016. Done. Next!
In the middle of a live investigation? Should they announce now where their investigation is going next to give time for people to destroy evidence? Contrary to GQP outcries, they ARE investigating Hunter Biden. Should they announce what they found now? Before they gain additional evidence? Should they have announced PRIOR to their raid that they were coming? Giving time for potential evidence to be moved/destroyed? They requested the return of documents. They then demanded the return of documents. They then promised legal action over the return of documents. ALL of this TOTALLY public and transparent.
EVERY outcry/argument the Republicans have made regarding this investigation was ALREADY nailed shut by Republicans themselves 6 years ago. All that is happening now is that the word "Hilary" has been replaced with "Trump".
Except now there is the threat of further violence... Which is now the GQP trump card (And if there was ever a perfect use of that term...)
If Trump is the Republican nominee, I think Liz Cheney will run as an independent and try siphon Republican votes away from him.
The Republican party isn't the party of Trump as much as it was a couple of years ago. Establishment Republicans politicians have had enough and I reckon they'd throw their weight behind Cheney. Even the Republican voting base is a lot more wobbly as they have a fresher, shinier, more polished Trump governing Florida. What Republican voters want is a 'straight-shooter' and DeSantis ticks that box (from an optics standpoint).
