Ye were never going out of Kilkenny for a replacement. At least not for the first man after Cody.
You appear to be well informed on who other counties were missing! Were Limerick missing 2 or 3 and can you name them. You're obviously not aware that your own county were missing three starters through injury.
Derek Lyng is already on your bold list.
Dear God, you have gone full bitter and twisted. You should never go full bitter and twisted.
Clearly you would have been happier/more miserable if the U20s had to have been beaten by 30 points by Galway.
This would have helped to reinforced your view that all is bad in the world of Kilkenny hurling and that we are screwed for all time. And it was Cody's fault.
So please, please try to get over your disappointment that we won the U20 AI despite missing 3 very good players and had a good run at senior, coming close.
Who knows, maybe with a bit of luck we will win nothing next year so you can be happy/miserable again. And you can still blame Cody if you want which you no doubt will.
Best of luck to Lyng, great player and comes across well as a manager. I am just stating how it appeared to me.
All managers were fully aware of the under 20 rules. Poor management choices by some, excluding Brian Cody.
Don't forget to name the 3 Limerick players. I'll name the Kilkenny ones if you're truly interested.
You've summed up that poster excellently.
We never went outside. I can safely say it will never happen and if it did it wouldn't be palatable to the fans.
"We never went outside" is easy say when you have the same manager for 25 years. No county really went outside back when Cody was put in.
Limerick were missing Cathal O'Neill and Diarmuid Hegarty, 2 outstanding players.
You should take up knitting. No one really takes you serious. The history books will always say KK won the 2022 U20 final.
I am just stating the bare facts and and giving my opinion on the back of it. I apologise if this doesn't sit well
You think KK don't have a sports psychologist? Or a large backroom team? Come on.
Anything positive around KK hurling you have to find a negative. Thats why i think you shouldnt follow hurling and take up knitting.
Agreed.
Excessive knitting can put you at a greater risk of repetitive stress injuries, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and even arthritis
Well going by posters on this excellent forum I don't think Kilkenny have a sports psychologist. They don't have the same size backroom team as others either. My understanding is Kilkenny County board don't spend as much as others on the team. They didn't have a hotel booked for after the All Ireland even.
Gerry Fitzpatrick is the name of our psychologist I think.
Mickey Comerford is the main S&C coach but he's not doing it on his own. There's at least one other lad there - don't know his name but he's a dark haired fella. I've seen his picture but blanking on his name.
There's a lad from Clara called John Murphy with the U20s and I believe Willie Brennan from Johnstown was as well.
Full stats team, video analysis and nutrition there also.
Some of that stuff has only been brought in over the last few years I think, in particular at U20, but it's there now.
Was wondering about Kevin Fennellys time as manager, it was just the one season right & we lost the All Ireland to Offaly in that one season 98, did he decide to leave of his own accord then or was he removed sacked?
I'm happy with that appointment anyway..be interesting to see if rice and barry come with him or stay with the u20s..have heard great thinks about his main coach last year too..Peter o Donovan I think..
It's a hard act to follow but at least they have a fairly young team to work with that we know are not far off ..he also obviously knows the u20s better than anyone so hopefully a few of them can make the step up
Neither team could get a hotel in Dublin for the final. Limerick got lucky cause Galway had one booked in advance and we took it when they lost.
Lots of teams won't book till they get to the final so maybe it's about time the GAA spent a bit of that final money. I work out it will cost about €10k or basically 111 of the 65k seats the sell for €90.
Would certainly be a help for the financially weaker teams.
Im not certain but i think he stepped down due to other commitments. But i think he was under pressure after losing the way we did.
So you have given up that pass time and brought all those side effects to following hurling and added more.
Cork, tipp and kk will never go outside for a manager. They never have and never will. Not saying that's right, but it's true.
There is a single exception in Kilkenny though not at senior level.
Just a few points about the U21 win. Limerick were missing Cathal O'Neill- he scored 2.3 out of 3.7 in our lucky win over Clare.
Diarmuid Hegarty was also missing, the brother of you know who He scored 1.4 from play against Cork in Cork last year and Patrick O'Donavan, who would have started but he was injured for most of the year.
Another point is that when these, largely the same, two teams met three years ago at Minor Level KK beat Limerick by a whooping twelve points.
Just a few thoughts lads.
I do feel KK were the better team on the day, but like us in the Senior Final a break or two went their way also. However no harm there as the winner quite rightly takes all and indeed can only beat what is put in front of them. I wish Derek Lyng and his panel the best of luck.
Maybe he was interested but the incumbent manager wasn't giving a solid indication of when he'd relinquish? Just hold on, hold on - sure you'll get your chance in time. That's often what happens in management - whether sports, politics, business or whatever. People hang on too long sometimes :)
Doesn't matter who we were missing. The team out there had chances to win the game and didn't take them. Anything else is ifs and buts.
For all we know O'Neill plays and gets sent off after 2 mins.
I would think Brian probably knew it was going to be his last year. But Brian being Brian he kept it to himself until very recently as there was a whisper on AI final day.
Lots of negative stuff here at times about Cody. People with an agenda. But he did move with the times.
Gerry must be there four years at least. Sure, TJ, at this stage, is practically an S&C man too.
Herity very optimistic with Lyng. He's right about coaches and selectors he picks being very important. Herity always comes across as a lad that knows his stuff. He's committed to kildare so won't be taking the u20s or selectors role. He also said strong rumours of Eddie going to Waterford.
Some digs at Cody by Herity again
