I genuinely believes he is disturbed by the decline in America, the erosion of standards, the selling out of the people.
A literal rat ****er...
Verdict is in...
Not a fraction of what he should pay
Trump cares about Trump; That's it. His lifetime of cons, crimes and serial lying has left no room for anyone or anything other Trump, money and power. Trump would burn America if it would somehow make him money and/or massage his narcissistic personality. How anyone thinks he has any messages, values or traits worthy of respect, support or emulation; is just "sad" as he'd say himself.
He's not what America needs. I think what America needs is decent education in civics and some kind of OFCOM type body which prevents media outlets from spouting any old crap they want. The absence of those things is part of what gives rise to a Donald Trump.
And Donald Trump concocted a completely false conspiracy theory that the 2020 US presidential election was subject to massive fraud causing him to lose. I know it. You know it. Everyone knows it. 60 courts know it. Even that private firm who did their own audit of one country looking for bamboo fibres in the ballots knows it. Trump himself knows it deep down. All Nixon did was have his men bug a hotel and for that he retired from politics, facing indictment even from his own party. If that's the penalty for what happened to Nixon, then Trump should consider himself a lucky, lucky man if the worst it comes to is that he never holds political office again and avoids jail because, to be clear, he is a crook who has absolutely no business holding political office. At the conclusion of the 4 year Trump experiment, he showed himself to be a fair weather captain who couldn't maturely handle a national crisis and couldn't handle defeat in an election (crying foul at losing is something Trump has done his whole life, by the way).
The only way Trump has been a force for good in the world was by showing people that if you stay politically apathetic, people like Trump can get into office.
Punitive punishment still to be announced so hopefully a lot more.
I'd add "Complete and utter" to that , just for the sake of absolute clarity.
Is there anyone else who thinks Alex Jones' lawyer deliberately sent the docs?
I know its hard to imagine these types having much of a conscience and not being too far down the rabbit hole but it just seems TOO amateur hour. I can imagine him getting frusyrated with Jones and thought it was a way to force a quick resolution or something.
I don't know; it just sounds too ridiculous to have it happen organically.
In short no, because under the ethics guidelines I believe if they know that their client is going to commit perjury, they can withdraw from defending them but would have to inform the court as to the reason.
I've wondered how a lawyer can defend a mass murderer arrested at the scene with the gun still hot in their hand and it was pointed out to me that a defending lawyer's job is to test the case against their charge, no matter how watertight it may appear. The morality needn't come into it - it's just the legal process.
So, with that in mind, if Jones' counsel handed over damning evidence and did it deliberately, Jones would probably have legitimate cause to feel angry about something for once, even if the disclosure of those texts is positive for everyone else.
Probably not as good a one as Albert Watkins
It's dealt with. He filled a motion about it. He said he gave data over but asked there other side not to look at it.
The motion was denied.
In other news, do ye remember when kavanaugh's hearings were ongoing and people here said something stank about the "investigation"? Trump supporters mocked such a notion!
Well...
EDIT - 4500 TIPS were not investigated!!!
A good thread on how punitive damages typically work out. TL;DR - best you can hope for is 9x punitive damages, and in Texas it's usually way less than that.
One important note: this was just a lawsuit brought by 2 parents. There are more Sandy Hook parents out there. There may be more suits, as this isn't a criminal trial he can be sued again and again.
Opens the door to other proponents (albeit a specific type) of scandalous lies being sued
One of his ads by the way.
To be fair to him, he of all people should know what a massive prick is...
but then it wouldn't be one word.
in case there were questions about the competence of Jones' attorneys, here's one of them, a racist pos of the first water:
And, both Pattis and Reynal have been ordered by a judge in Connecticut to appear before her bench to answer questions about their possible malfeasance during this trial:
Although it's absolutely worth discussing, Jones' defamation trial isn't all that relevant to the topic of the thread.
It would be interesting to see, going forward, if Jones continues to back Trump as he has in the past and if Trump embraces that endorsement.
You think Jones wont double down?
I would argue it is.
He was one of the main bad actors in Jan 6th. The release of his texts has implications for Stone and others surrounding what occurred on Jan 6th, which could include evidence of who asked them to do what and when.
Plenty of texts from government officials were wiped. We may glean some information from his.
Btw - one of the attorneys in this case are representing two other Jan 6th defendants
If you wish to discuss Alex Jones start a separate thread on him
It's possible to mention the release of the texts as they may relate to the Jan 6th investigation without needing to go into all the other aspects of the defamation suit which have precious little to do with Trump.
He plead the 5th over 100 times before the Jan 6th committee I read. It'll be very interesting if they get their hands on them and I read this morning they have requested them
Cheney's advert..
In before someone says Trump always hated him...
"In before someone says Trump always hated him..."
....he was obviously joking...
That's the line, right?
Or 'tongue in cheek'
“Everyone and their dog knew what he said”
Trumps has no compunction about completely flipping the script about a particular person if he is notified of a change in their attitude towards him. If you support Trump, you're a great guy. If you don't, you're a loser. That's how Trump sees it. There isn't really any qualifier or acknowledgement of past relations. All Trump had to say about QAnon was that he appreciated that they liked him. That was the one thing he claimed to know about the phenomenon. He's also done this with several politicians who opposed him but later rowed in behind him, like Ted Cruz, going from "He holds his bible high.... and then he lies." to calling him "Beautiful Ted".
He was full of praise for the Clintons back in the day before he flipped his opinion and had crowds chanting "lock her up".
Indeed. Any relationship that Trump has with anyone is purely transactional i.e. "What can this person do for me". Once the answer becomes nothing, that's the end. And I would also apply that to his children. If Ivanka decides to go out next week and say publicly that the 2020 election was not stolen, she'll be straight under the bus along with everyone else. There's absolutely no doubt about that in my mind.
