IMHO they are and have been shelling civilian's areas all along as a deliberate tactic once the initial thankfully false belief of a quick early victory was put to bed. IMHO it is a clear tactic to try and terrorise the Ukrainian population into submission. It is utterly disgusting and says all anybody needs to know about who the Russian dictatorship is but nonetheless it is deliberate I believe.
What do Amnesty make of Russians firing artillery from a nuclear plant and using it as ammo storage
On bright side plenty of Russian criminal scum are getting amnesty’s in exchange for taking a part in rape, murder and looting
This is the (Russian) way
This came up in the Sabina Higgins thread (maybe another one) and we had the Kremlinites doing a jig.
Well it turns out, the Amnesty International Ukraine staff have repudiated the English language version of the report criticizing the Ukrainian military. The country head of AI coming out hard against the people in the wider organisation that editorialised their work into a "both sides" sh*tfest. AI getting in the neck big time now. As I said in the other thread, AI was once a very important organisation now infected with bullsh*tters. If anyone gave their direct debit details to some chugger, now is a good time to cancel it.
Statement...
Translation (crude, but you get the idea)...
Yeah I don't get it, Ukrainian military are endangering civilians because Russians are firing at them. Talk about victim blaming.
If China starts that war they will need all their reserve of weapons for themselves. They won't be fishing them back up off the ocean floor.
As an aside, I note that the CEO of Amnesty International is is stlyed as "Secretary General", a professional title usually reserved for Governmental or inter-Governmental organisations like the UN - not an NGO.
A minor point, but a little smidge of further evidence that it's an organisation that's lost the plot.
They also rather bizzarely removed the most hallowed status of "Prisoner of Conscience" from Navalny, then reinstated it. Something weird going on with AI and Russia.
Kasparov (who I find to be equal parts brave and hilarious) had this to say...
Slav techno/hardbase kinda like it myself.
nah that will just be a standard RPG why waste anything special on a soft target.
Crazy stuff. Accusations that Ukraine have been placing weapons in among civilians is the stuff that every hate filled Putin bot on social media has been claiming for months. The fact that Russia is waging an illegal war on Ukraine and every time they kill Ukrainian civilians, it's a war crime is lost on these Amnesty cretins.
Amnesty do a lot of good work but in this case too I can only shake my head in dismay. Along with Higgins' letter, another example of how people with good intentions can come out with the most offensive and off-key statements.
Just came across this. It was the car the recently killed Russian officers were in (right-click to translate) The Armed Forces of Ukraine killed six Russian commanders traveling from the meeting: the moment was caught on video - News of Ukraine - InfoResist
Amnesty is overloaded with bleeding hear left-wing types that are only interested in having a go at the UK or the USA. It shows them up to be an unreliable organisation that is on its last legs.
Back on topic, Ilona was educated as a social worker, intending to care for people and make their lives better. Now she spends her days training to shoot and to take lives, if necessary.
I don't see too many Russians being in any hurry to join their army.
Ukrainian air defence shot down S-300 missile in Zaporizhzhia region this morning
I feel this is a key theme for both fighting forces. It takes comparatively little to motivate a Ukrainian to want to defend their home and the people they care for. Also thanks to the thick-headed barbarism of the Russian push towards Kiev, they now know that the other side has no civility on the battlefield and will offer no quarter. Ukraine's raw recruits have plenty to motivate them to become better soldiers and to fight the invader tooth & nail.
Compare this to the Russian conscript, who's either been hoodwinked into thinking he's going to fight 21st Century Nazis for The Motherland, or in many cases pushed to "Volunteer" to become a Good Russian(TM) out of fear of what refusal would earn him. He's now in a land generally hostile to his presence, possibly surrounded by partisans and certainly under the aim of precision NATO weaponry.
I feel that beyond their material logistics problems, the Russians may continue to suffer greatly from a shortage of troop morale, which at times can be as crippling as a lack of fuel or ammo.
They are losing , and they know it. Its just sheer unadulterated murderous terrorism, and nothing else. If we cannot have it, then neither will you, because we are going to destroy it.
While he is mainly drawing his troops from the far flung reaches of Russia, he will be OK, but wait until the body bags start arriving back in Moscow...that's the reason why he has not declared it a war and general mobilization. Reportedly 40'000 deaths of Russian soldier's scattered throughout Russia is pretty thin on the ground, and in places most Muscovites have barely heard of, never mind visited. So yes, its easy to understand their indifference. Now the sanctions, and rising cost of living due to the war. they are something else. If death grip Putin has imposed on free speech and movement was removed, I bet you we would see a different Russia emerge.
I have a sneaking suspicion that for all their "Neutrality" in the war in Ukraine, they are very happy to see a weakened and broken Russia emerge, one that will be easy to control. What ever "help" they are giving Putin is purely superficial.
Is this the car explosion the self proclaimed she-wolf died in?
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/missile-strike-kills-she-wolf-army-chief-who-bragged-about-killing-ukrainians-q3lqv55np
And who was driving the clown car that tipped over going around the bend?
No, they are not in any hurry to join their Military, even in peace time. If it was not for conscription ( which most Russians try to avoid, by way of exemptions ) there would not have much of a military at all.
I think she was a separate incident. Apparently officers and a few soldiers were killed in this attack. Talk of Chinese vehicles in Rostov. May be rumor. Also talk of Chinese troops joining Russia. Take lots of salt with this though.
Indeed, that would be interesting. Although, wouldn’t be hugely surprised to see Chinese troops cross the border… just not so friendly to Russians.
If there was any truth in the Chinese joining, the Ukraine would be shouting from the roof tops as well as the Americans and England.
That would be a major escalation and not easy to hide.
Sure, if young men from the big cities started getting drafted I think there'd be some resistance. As long as it's mostly impoverished, uneducated boys from the provinces and ethnic non Russians the middle classes seem pretty indifferent
I just wonder with the thousands of Russian deaths and injured soldiers what this will have on the Russian population in the long term. I know their population is in decline but will this have an even bigger Impact with so many deaths in probably such a young section of their population.
The way that they have poisoned their relations with all their neighbours is another big factor. Could take take them decades to recover - not unless some new guy took over and renounced all aspects of Putinism (which seems unlikely).
They've lost over 350K to emigration to May this year, They are at about 145m but projected to be about 120m by 2050, maybe a fair bit lower now.
These supranational NGOs are a festering wound that should have been surgically removed from the west a long time ago
Probably be below the 120 million by then like you say with people leaving Russia and the losses on Russia in the war might knock another million or 2 possibly more so might be closer to 115 million come 2050.
As Kasparov said, they need to set up a senate of sorts where one person does not have all the power.
This must be the most filmed war ever. Russians get hit-
