Yeah that was basically it. The rural TDs wanted a lower emissions level number, the Greens a higher one. It's just a small step along what will probably be a very long road.
Probably because some of them are going to be hit with punitive change for NO gain and missed targets.
Fodder for political feel goods.
These are legally enforceable limits enacted into law. These are not 'targets'.
Ill repeat, if people say it will never happen, why are farmers upset?
Cant have it both way lads.
Why are farmers unhappy then?
Any comment on the deal itself, or do you need someone else to tell you what to think?
She also rightly pointed out that SF has gone on holiday in regards Climate Change and this is another example of it. Where is MLMD and CO.? They are normally shouting nonstop? Are they in Spain, on their holidays? They won't be able to rock up in government and undo this by the way, well unless they want to take a big big political hit.
Precisely, this is how I view the past few days of nonsense 😏
Werent you giving out about inflation and the cost of living, yet you want to maintain high prices for food?
Makes total sense, doesn't it?
Was that that what the past number of days farce was about, it was so convoluted, All over the place and dragged out I thought it was negotiations to form a new government or perhaps something of immediate importantance , say for example a number of immediate urgent crisis.
I'm being fictitious of course 😏
If you want to stop the EU - Mercosur Free Trade Agreement, you are better off voting for the Greens Francie.
Then again, not surprised you want protectionist policies for Ireland, UKIP tried to do the same for Britain. Correlation? ;)
You know that it has all been an embarassing waste of time when you see the concerted efforts to talk about the opposition.
The fact is, this has been a shallow game of political football, with the politics being infinitely more important than the environment. (not that it matters, but the opposition played it politically too)
A climbdown/capitulation from the Greens, a cling to the farming vote from FF FG. The environment/climate change can wait.
We might be, not we would be.

It was only to agree targets and they have now done that. A little done, lots more to do as they say!
That deal with Brazil has yet to be ratified and looks at least to have run into serious issues due to the changes in Europe electing more Green candidates.
Which is ironic. Irish farmers were up in arms about it yet it was the wider Green movement that will probably stop it.
The main Opposition issue, apart from no climate policy at all, is that they are wedded to abolishing carbon tax, something that needs to be part of the equation.
I agree in the normal context of nego and compromise but in my humble opinion the contrived nature of the past few days squabbling was more about each party being seen to throw shapes, trying to out do each other as to who'll come out looking the Victor.
Ultimately its been an embarrassing spectle, has achieved little and whatever games were being played they all look like fools.
Intriguing MM and Leo nowhere to be seen at yesterday's rather embarrassing press conference.
That is for a thread on the environment.
I am here to discuss the political shenanigans.
What my view of what it should be or yours is entirely irrelevant.
I am not a policy maker, I am a policy reciever.
This.
Will be hard for the opposition to come in, in the next few years and say that they are going to get rid of these legal limits.
The main opposition party take their climate briefings from the likes of UKIP, ie. Climate Change Denial.
However, lots of young people will be voting for them in the next election, so how will that stack up?
It wont, hence why not one person here will give us their own figure.
They can tell agri to cut by 25% but all the targets are unattainable! There is no way some sectors will reach their targets by 2030. What ER is talking about on the radio now is going to cost billions upon billions. It will never happen.
Nah, the bottom proposed option was 22%, the top one was 30%. They argued for three days from different positions, so it doesn't take much of a leap to predict all the discontent on a compromise deal that the media would dig up.
So you are not happy with the 25% figure.
What figure would you and your pals like?
Ah that old face saving cliche.
Listening to him. I can't imagine how much all this is going to cost the average person!!!
Ryan getting a good grilling on Claire Byrne .
Voice starting to go up in register trying to explain.
Any agreement which has everyone unhappy they didn't get all they wanted is a good one!
Completely agree and the contrived nonsense over the past week was absurd and ultimately achieved little 😏
I reckon the past few days partially deflected from Paschals woes, he's been extraordinaryly quite over the past week but I don't think the AIB story finished just yet 😏
The take home from the whole fiasco is 'climate change can wait', it has all been ineffectualy window dressed and lipserviced because seats in the Dáil are more important.
I'm struggling to see it any differently TBH.
I have always thought that the AIB stroke would cause long term damage. The climbdown was swift but FFG will be reminded over and over again how they prioritised the bank's profits over citizens yet again. It will be pure gold material in GE.Next. How long will Paschal avoid questions on it?
MM back since last Monday I believe, I'd like to comment re yesterday's press conference but as Per Mods advisory which I respect, we should saty clear as not Thread related 😏
