Sorry, the access at Spa is not as I previously described; it's 1km up the Churchhill Road (turn right at the Y-junction on the Fenit side of Spa).
The public car park across from the train station ("Slattery's") is another option. Paid parking Mon-Sat 08:30-18:30 @ 60c/hour. They've just installed parking meters that take cards, which makes life much easier!
Don't be tempted to park in supermarket car parks. They rigidly enforce their time limits!
Yeah, you'd imagine they will have to put some kind of safe route into the spa, especially if they intend to join it up to cockleshell. That would be a very popular loop.
Another option would be to park on Brewery road. There's always parking there down near the cemetery. There is access to the greenway beside the CBS school along by the river.

I think you can access it behind the oyster too. There's a small road that turns right which should bring you onto the old train line. I think this is one that has been fenced and padlocked(!) to prevent access.
It seems mad there isn't proper access at the spa, after all, the new route from cockleshell will be to the spa so you'd imagine it would be a popular loop.
Hi, I’m heading down to Newcastle West to cycle greenway this weekend . Is it worth driving out to Tralee to cycle to feint ? Can I cycle on roads past bits that are not open yet ? All suggestions welcome
no only 6 km open in tralee/fenit yet
spectacular but short,Wait until fully open
To answer your question, yes you can cycle by road as far as the spa and jump on there. Probably a better option would be to drive to Fenit and cycle in to the spa and back to Fenit on the Greenway. By the way, access to Fenit village will be restricted on Saturday morning because there is a big Triathlon being held. I thing the carpark will be closed to the public.
A pity they can’t build/plant some proper hedgerows along the side of the greenway instead of the cheap fencing. It looks ugly the day it’a built, and will fall apart in a few years.
It's a better quality fence on the Fenit one but I dont see why they had to literally skin all the vegetation off.
Supposedly illegal to go cutting during nesting season but somehow the council can do it. Not all that "green".
I see a council drone replaced the arm of the old signal at Fenit with one of the wrong pattern..
A bit off topic but the Listowel to Abbeyfeale Greenway was scheduled to open today.
T.
The Fenit one was due to be opened in September. As with all County Council announcements, it should be queried which year they were talking about.
From what I can see they still are laying black top and have quite a bit of fencing to do around Knockanish. The end of October now even seems like a stretch, it could run on beyond it.
Fingers crossed for Friday!
the 44th September?
or is that the 14th Oct? :-)
Yes, confirmed for tomorrow in Kerry's Eye.
I'm just back from a blustery and wet spin to Fenit and back on the greenway. It is great that it is now fully open.
Barely open and attracting dog shite and rubbish already. What is wrong with people?
I finally got round to doing it today, it's really good but the stretch from the station to mounthawk could definitely do with cleaning
What is this about? At least it isn't blocking the Greenway itself, just an access road onto it.
I saw signs for the "Greenway Car Park" pointing down thru' the Monavalley Ind estate from the Fat mile. Didn't follow it the entire way but it looked like it was heading towards Mounthawk park.
I noticed there's a lot of cones on the side of the road at the Mounthawk side to stop people parking along there. There are signs for a carpark which seems to be up in Monavalley, so a bit of a distance back from the greenway. I suppose if you have a bike its fine, but that path along the 'fat mile' is not good for cycling!
Public road gated and locked? Looks odd.
I think that may be a private road. The council should lock it themselves to stop a private road over public land and see how fast the gate comes down.
Took a look today. Carpark is down behind Mounthawk park wit access onto the "Skinny mile" which looks good.
The path along the fat mile has always been a disaster for any activity. When my kids were small you couldn't push the buggy along there as it would shake them to death. When they started cycling it was also too rough. Runners run on the road as its too rough also. I tried cycling it the other evening after doing the Fenit Greenway & it's not great. I've mentioned to my local councillor that it should be tarred over. Not sure if anything will happen.
Another gate was erected. This time it's across the Greenway itself

That's crazy, what is going on?
Someone hasn't been paid?
I think that is a gate for cattle crossing from one field to another. Absolutely no need to close them with twisted wire, the council should adopt zero tolerance to this type of carry on.
