Do people think the sentence is fair? I followed the case. I think it is about right. Probably on the lower end of a sexual assault case but i do think a custodial sentence was required.
whats the point of your question?
Ah we have a first post troll. Head back to your cave.
So, you cannot answer it....
That is nothing to do with "jury nullification" which is essentially an internet myth in terms of Irish law.
The Judge in the first trial erred in law by not offering the option of an acquittal. He was found guilty of manslaughter.
This was rectified in the second trial and the jury acquitted.
Course i can answer it, but whats the point? Tell me the point and ill answer it no problem. Its not the same scenario as this case.
And totally detached from human nature…it’s scary…
Yes or no answer......would the BF deserve to be charged and convicted. You keep harping on incessantly about consent.
Yes or no answer. There is no actual point to it. It simply rlates to consent, as you keep mentioning.
He was in his mid 30's and had a crime free successful life before this, at what age do you personally stop blaming Mammy and Daddy for your fúck ups?
Ah yes , human nature= sexual assault. You terrify me.
You are embarrassing yourself here.
You probably also want these 21 years olds dating 17 year olds and 20 year olds dating 16, almost 17 year olds locked up as well.
Either that or he's just a virtue signalling WOKE soldier who rushes to battle every time anyone has any gripe with anything any woman did anywhere
Those guys are pretty much lab grown - mass produced nowadays, funny thing most Women aren't attracted to them
Oh im sorry did the guy not commit sexual assault? Or is it just this case you dont have an issue with? I never brought up 17 year olds.
So he didnt commit sexual assault?
She was so traumatized she was happy to get a lift home from him, then talk to him about it over text and then meet him again in person to discuss what happened. Her impact statement is a sham and absolute insult to horrific genuine cases. Every ounce of my sympathy is with this man and none for her.
His mistake was been a gentleman and honest and upfront about it. He made a mistake, a misunderstanding but she was absolutely intent on ruining him, why else wait a year to walk into a station to report it?
Just another reminder that boards does not reflect the real world and that the majority opinion here is nowhere near reflected in societal reality.
In other words, those making excuses for this fool are in a minority.
You a member 20mins is it? 16 yr olds going out with 20 yr olds is creepy enough. Whatever floats your boat.
You brought up some nonsense about me not seeing such an issue with a 20 year old male dating a 16 year old female.
Quit trying to make me out to be the issue here. The way you have been posting tells me you'd have half the fooking country locked up for your own OTT warped views on what men and women get up to in the bedroom
We'll agree to disagree. You believe a sentence was warranted, and I have issues with this even getting to court!
I'm not entirely shocked that the lads defending sexual assault are also in favour of dating barely legal girls.......
I said ages ago we should leave it. Please stay away from women.
It isnt a shock , im surprised theres a good few of them though. But yeah thats why i brought it up , this poster has warped views on a few areas , at best old fashioned at worst predatory.
I don't see how you come to that conclusion TBH, I imagine there would be quite a bit of sympathy for his man in respect to the punishment he is potentially facing.
Even the victim in this case claimed she was "blamed and shamed by friends and family".
As the Judge said it is an "Unusual" case.
And i couldn't give a crap whether you think its creepy, good luck to ya.
Well I'm defending him and I'm not promoting dating young girls.
I can just see the common sense missing here and its a shame the judge couldn't seen it. This shouldn't of even got to court
Boggles, you and I agree that this was sexual assault.
I'm talking about those who aren't just concerned with the sentence, but are expanding beyond that to say or to imply that this guy didn't do anything wrong.
He did, and that's a fact.
Stop spouting nonsense.....21 year old dating 17 year old in Ireland...big fooking deal...
20 year olds dating 16 year old UK.....same
Both scenarios are legal. Nothing illegal or odd here.
No, I would say majority think this man should not have been given a prison sentence.
Sorry what , we live in ireland. I never brought up 17. You did.
You obviously know nothing about how trauma impacts people - not everyone freaks out instantly. It can take days, weeks, even years to manifest itself.
It may have taken her some time to process what actually happened that night, so no, I'm not shocked by her taking a lift home from him or talking to him the next day.
I am sympathetic for her for an experience that obviously did have a lasting impact on her. I can understand why. I am sympathetic for him in that I don't believe he should have received a custodial sentence, considering he cooperated fully with the investigation.
But I'm have no sympathy for him for his conviction. He climbed on top of her and groping her in her sleep. That was a sexual assault, and that can't just be excused.
Did you ever give your opinion on what you thought should have been the punishment? This was the original point of the thread. There was no doubt surrounding his guilt or the crime , this was factual.
Yeah, nothing odd.....
"Bring your new missus down the pub to meet the lads walshb"
"Can't, the barman knows her id is fake and she's got double french in the morning".
Completely normal adult relationship, at least you get a discount on the cinema, just no 18s films.
