Ukrainian refugees in Ireland - Megathread

I don't mind at all and I accept my focus more recently has been on some quite extraordinary shenanigans and yes I'm frustratedand angered by it. I've actually raised on numerous occasions there is a majority that are Genuine refugees, and yes I was baited by an individual who wants to portray a narrative that utterly ignores some hard truths about some very questionable behaviour going on.

I actually also pointed out earlier how glaring obvious it is so many real vunerable people have infact been left behind and essentially forgotten. The cars not particularly a big issue but as you point out with the elderly couple, there is clearly the haves and have nots with this cohort of refugees.

But yes, I accept I have gone a little far primarily because of a particular individual taking the Pee, that's no excuse I know and I commend yours and others efforts on behalf of Genuine refugees, wherever they are from.

You should have kept reading your own link. Before your own bit, it explains the concept of "International Protection" (i.e. asylum). After your bit it explains about subsidiary protection (emphasis added to make it a little easier to find)

Any person can apply for international protection. They have to be processed. I explained this above a few times. If the alternative is to send them back to a warzone, then they will be granted asylum. That is likely part of the reason why the EU has given blanket temporary permission to stay. Doing so removes the necessity for them to submit asylum applications. If asylum was granted, we would be "stuck" with them as they would have a more permanent status here. I said it above that for those calling for the temporary permission to be removed, that they would need to understand the consequences of what they are asking for. It reminds me of Brexiteers wailing for Brexit without understanding what impact it would have.

I don't know what you posted. As I said I don't remember your posts. You were looking for an apology for some reason. If you did not post the tweet and I thought you did then I will remain eternally sorry and ashamed that I misinterpreted your butting in looking for an apology as you being the author of said tweet. I just hope that I can live it down some day and that you, or your descendents, can find it in your heart of hearts to, if not forget, to at least forgive. I will never live it down.

That poster has an agenda. They pepper it with a few "genuine" references here or there but that is really a thin veneer. Even the response to your post about the couple arriving with nothing is quickly sidestepped to add in about "haves" and "cars". It's purely the sort of rabble rousing disingenuous innuendo that a certain Mr. Farage would be proud of.
