As much as those comments are correct can we just ban all mention of Discovery. Starfleet did classify it after all.
It's just tedious having every positive review have a nasty or negative angle with the "great to have PROPER Trek back" stuff.
Classify what now? I'm afraid that I've never heard of something called "Discovery"....stupid low level clearance!
OV-103 Discovery, an archaic Earth space vehicle of the late 20th and early 21st century /Spock
Catching up on SNW today. I'm on episode 4 - Memeto Mori and I just noticed something strange, Hemmer moves his eyes to look at people. It's probably something Bruce Horak doesn't realise he's doing but it's still weird. Compare it to Charlie Cox in Daredevil who never looks directly at anything.

Holy shít. I wasn't expecting that. I know Strange New Worlds was playing loose with its format but that's some swing to crossover with Lower Decks. Time travel I guess will be the instigator; the former flung back to this era, Boimler geeking out over meeting his heroes
I'll need another source before I believe that.
According to a report I read earlier the episode will feature both live action and animation. It didn’t say anything about the Lower Decks actors playing live action versions of their characters. But perhaps it will be both, maybe even at the same time. Farscape did a Who Framed Roger Rabbit style episode years ago. It was pretty wacky.
Oh yeah. That was a pretty out there episode yet typical of how far later seasons would push its core exotic nature. Would be great if Strange New Worlds did similar; the runway is there with the show already comfortable in using a touch of silly in the best tradition of Trek episodes letting their hair down.
Maybe it's because I rewatched it last year, but the first season of SNW reminded me of Farscape. So yeah the potential is definitely there.
Paramount posted it:
Jack Quaid retweeted this:
Tawny Newsome tweeted this:
Thank goodness the Lower Decks cast vaguely look like their animated equivalents! That'll help any live action appearance.
Unlike, I dunno, ANY of H. Jon Benjamin's characters lol.
Drake's directed as well. No better man for an episode like that.
Agreed! Well.. Frakes but I suspect a typo there.
Sure about that?
Ya predictive text strikes again
If it's These are the Voyages style holo deck shenanigans. I'll be less than impressed.
They would be great craic in the pub with a guitar and fiddle. :)
Feck sake. I love new Star Trek news too but not when it completely ruins something. The best surprise for season 2 of SNW ruined. I know this is a thread for SNW and all but could we keep any surprises like Lower Decks and SNW crossing over separate in fact keep anything about any upcoming episodes in a completely separate thread and that way the surprise will not be ruined for does of us who do not want to know anything untill after the episode has aired.
I think it's fair game when it's official news via the production. Understandable when it's set photos or something secretive revealed by members of the public on their smart phone; then people should be tactful over something not in the public domain yet - but this was announced by the studio, and shouted out at comic con by Jack Quaid.
I do agree they should have kept it secret until the episode dropped; any fan of Doctor Who would be used to everything spoiled by a noisy studio; but obviously they were too excited - and why not. It's the first full-episode crossover for a trek right? If we discount the DS9 tribble episode or random cameos like Bashir in TNG.
BBC ruining every f*cking reveal in trailers before the Who episode even airs!!
I completed my second watch through last night, enjoyed it so much. To have a regular, episodic, well written Star Trek series dropping weekly was fantastic.
Not thrilled to hear the news above, not a fan of crossover type things. However, given how well they managed the Balance of Terror ‘cross’, I’m hopeful!
Once or twice I might put down to over-eagerness but it does seem to be BBC marketing policy to just publicise every twist, turn and surprise cast announcement, regardless how ruinous it might be to the experience.
Horak is actually legally blind, only has partial sight in 1 eye
I know
It kinda means that what Horak is doing is perhaps more a authentic performance for a blind character.
We get used to stereotypes of disabilities on screen sometimes, performed by regular actors, and end up with incorrect perceptions from the reality - so when an actual disabled person does an authentic performance it ends up looking weird to us. Just one of those many foibles/problems with a lack of genuine representation.
Aenar are supposed to be completely sightless, as opposed to Horak's legally blind, so looking at things doesn't really fit.
The point was made on the comparison to a non-blind actor's performance of a human character.
For the Aenar thing, I mean, they're a fictional alien species... maybe 'looking' directs telepathic focus or something. I seem to recall them 'looking' around in Enterprise too. Broadly, I don't think we can really say right or wrong, so i'd kind a trust a legally blind actor's own take on it.
Some of the Enterprise Aenar moved their eyes too, it's still weird
I have been watching the original series. Nothing can touch the Kirk!
But im looking forward to season 2 of this.
Like a lot of you I have given up on discovery but I don't think it's as bad as made out.
I liked a lot of the first three seasons but it went off the cliff in season 4.
I personally don't have the inclination to watch so much Trek. Two series at anytime is plenty. So for the moment it's Picard and this.
I just view the orville as a total rip of of the the next generation and neither do I find it funny.
There is a lot of good Sci fi out there so no need to be watching four trek like series.
I know Picard was not great but they had me at the picture of Worf...
