Reminds me of the Nazis denouncing nuclear physics as "Jewish science", and shooting themselves in their chodes.
Erdogan needs to mind his footing here as Putin may have led him up a garden path. Russia will not stick to its deal but we'll carry on as it has been doing since they started their invasion of Ukraine. Turkey might find itself having to do something military-wise or end up losing face. Deals with Russia always come with a stern health warning.
Russia hit the port of Odessa.
Looks like they lied and might be gearing up to take the port once Ukraine clears the mines.
We all knew the deal was a lie.
Yup
That's exactly what he does not need. He needs to be defeated, no if I or buts. He needs (and Russia) needs to be stop this kind of adventurism on the whim of one man. The whole opinion of the Russian population needs to be changed, and only a resounding defeat will do that. Let him threaten his nuclear weapons if he wants, but make it crystal clear that if he goes for the nuclear option, it will be countered with massive nuclear retaliation, MAD, in fact. And I don't think that Putin is that far gone that he would risk that.
Ukraine calls on the UN and Turkey to ensure that Russia complies with its obligations under the agreement on the export of grain signed the day before, - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported after the shelling of the Odesa seaport by Russian troops
Any chance that lockhead martin could speed up introduction of the extended range version of the current gmlrs missile - even in small quantities ,150 km would seriously dent Russian logistics even further ...
The United States announced a new $270 million security package for Ukraine, and Ukrainian officials detailed their procedures for keeping track of Western weapons on July 22.The US package includes an additional four high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS), 36,000 artillery ammunition rounds, anti-armor systems, and 580 Phoenix Ghost drones. Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksii Danilov reiterated that the Ukrainian government is employing multiple monitoring mechanisms to keep track of weapons deliveries to Ukraine. Ukraine’s Modern Information and Analytical System of the Main Situational Center (COTA) reportedly allows Ukrainian officials to monitor the status of arms deliveries to Ukrainian frontlines and works in tandem with NATO’s LOGFAS logistics and accounting control system.Danilov’s statement is likely a response to an ongoing Russian information operation that seeks to discount Ukraine as a trustworthy recipient of Western military aid.
Anyone hear the speech from Guterres the SG of the UN yesterday. Gobshite thought he was Churchill. Talking about the agreement being a beacon of light for the world when the world needed it most. The agreement didn't even last 12hrs but it showed up the UN and all the spoofers making a living out of it no end. 100s of millions wasted every year on absolute wafflers who like to dine out on other people's money and the sound of their own voice. Close it down.
I bet it is just like Soviet times: Mathematics, Engineering and Science will do OK. Economics, the social sciences, History and the Humanities generally will get it in the neck: they speak too many inconvenient truths.
Of course it is. You'd be an absolute moron to believe otherwise.
To waste even a second, debating what Russia says, is to miss the point.
HIMARS, on the other hand, are perfectly apt.
You think he would have learned his lesson when he visited Putin in spring and went Kiev next day and cruise missiles just happened to be sent his way that day.
The difference imho is that if you are educated you can leave relatively easily these days and hundreds of thousands done just that, leading to a brain drain.
It was the Ukrainians fault , a flight of peaceful Russian cruise missiles was on holidays in historic Odessa , when they were attacked by Ukrainian air defences - see everyone is out to get Russia - it's just not fair .. they just want to be friends ...
I haven't been following this thread for a while as the recent Russian gains in the east are just too infuriatingly depressing.
But yet again the Russians have shown themselves be to despicable and untrustworthy, and people still think a deal can be done with them.
It looks a busted flush of a country. Totalitarian dictatorships are never a success and nearly always become stunted and left behind by the rest of the world. It's inevitable that Putin's Stalinist regime will collapse at some point and will be replaced by something more enlightened. At the moment, Russian people are living in an open air gulag.
There has been no Russian gains since 6th of July anywhere
Wait, did the UN lob missiles at Odessa? Why is it their fault? Surely it's a good thing that they are willing to help broker any deals that help de-escalate and reduce civilian casualties. Whether the deal is broken or not does not make the effort in vain. The point is that Russia is digging a hole for itself and the Ukrainians, the western allies and the un, should continue to show up and offer peaceful terms and continue to get spurned ,mocked or even humiliated. Because in the end it will all come back to haunt the Russians, the opportunities they had and rejected, it can all be accounted for when eventually they find themselves begging for a deal. There is also a global pr battle to be won. For example the Chinese might see some opportunity from the slight disruption or chaos but being Russia's fair weather friend but you can be sure they are examining the politics with a fine tooth comb for opportunities themselves and what they will see from Russia is an extremely untrustworthy agent as opposed to a rules based alliance in NATO, who they may despise but probably respect.
caring Russians making a difference
Speculation that the US not providing longer-range missile platforms was a Russian condition for signing on to the UN/Turkey brokered grain agreement.
Well, Russia has already p*ssed on the agreement less than 24 hours after signing it. So f*ck it, let loose the missiles now. Send the Kerch Bridge to the bottom of the sea.
Proof if ever any was needed, Russians are the scum of the earth!
You'd have to agree with this - as far as this war is concerned and it's the sort of war the UN was set up to avoid, they've shown themselves to be as useless as the tits on a bull. Time for change and a new body not bound by vetoes.
Yup - and as well as the atacms throw in a decent air defence system for oddessa ( I know ,not as simple as it sounds ) , the long range missiles would keep the Russian navy at a distance ( and probably feic up Sevastopol's usefulness) ) , and the air- defence would allow them to load ships - and bring them into Romanian and Bulgarian waters ( NATO waters ) ,before exiting the Turkish straits -
Why does the West fall for it over and over and over and over and over and over, I could go on forever. Putin is a compulsive lying sack of sh it, geez, how long does it fcking take for it to sink in.
Not one kernel of grain will live Ukraine, I mean I know this, why doesn't everyone else.
It's wasting valuable time
I'm sure nobody believed that Russia would stick to it's word. Again though, it's worth doing, making them explicitly break agreements. Keep giving them the rope to hang themselves. I doubt it has any real impact on the delivery of weapons or other military operations. Doesn't cost anything to send a bunch of fat diplomats to negotiate, they are all salaried anyway. It just adds to the reputational damage for Russia in the non western world.
Sub human scum.
That’s a good point, we need clear objectives for taking out Putin, and maybe there is one and this whatever this slow strangulation of Russia is the least worst plan
Yeah it's possible, the gap between what those who are fighting the war are asking for and those supporting them are providing is of concern. I'm all for as few dying while Ukraine get's it's nation back as possible. So lots of weapons, victory asap would be my way of looking at it.
