Are they fighting again? They were at that a few months ago too.

Saw my first Ukrainian car yesterday in a certain tourist town in very south Donegal.

Not around here anyway, nothing ever happens, although I suppose the disco lights and music and trying to walk out of places without paying has livened the place up a bit 😂

No idea. It was parked up facing a wall. I just saw the Ukraine flag on the rear registration plate. Wasn’t a fancy car or anything like the ones on a previous post.

As far as i know they need to have their cars NCT’d ? Unless there is a loophole ?

DSP have Ukrainian staff in a lot of locations now.

I doubt it- I’d imagine whatever they did in Ukraine suffices. Same as European reg cars here don’t need an NCT unless re-registered.

If by chance they had to do anything I’ve no doubt we as taxpayers would be paying up. Can’t be letting those poor Ukrainians be paying for a thing

CityWest has 764 rooms. If they have two people per room, they'd take in 6.4 million from the government for July.

    Communication was the greatest fatality

I'd imagine these cars would have to be registered before being subject to an NCT test, but can't see any of the guests who own these cars being put under any pressure to re register , tax and insure these cars. I'd honestly like to know what is policy on these cars being permitted into the country , Given there's absolutely no way to check if they are insured, stolen ,let alone roadworthy. I'd also be curious to know if tracking is being done on how often they are leaving and coming back.

The Virtue Signalling nonsense re Ukrainian licenses and Irish insurance companies falling over themselves to waive normal rules was curious also and I'd like to see data on how many licences were exchanged for Irish ones and how Irish authorities went about verifying the legitimacy of Ukrainian driving licences.

Insurance companies may offer insurance on Irish Registered cars but I can't see them writing policies on foreign registered cars and its highly likely many of these Ukrainian registered cars have absolutely no insurance cover here. I'd pity a Garda stopping one them, we're do they start checking details.

I think for other European cars there is some kind of grace period and perhaps longer if studying here. I do know they did tighten it up a lot on this in the past decade- remember all those PL reg cars you’d always see- not the case anymore. You either must re-register the car here or face it being compounded.

    Impounded 😁😁

I must do some research, I know they must be re registered if owner resident for a specific length of time , but there's so many questions re insurance cover on these cars with no way of verifying if they are insured . I'd doubt its a top priority for owners.

Whatever about Irish insurance companies doing fluffy deals for Ukrainians, I don't think that extends to insuring a foreign registered car.

I wager they have gotten wind of vacant homes maybe co opted and don't want their summer homes occupied.

our government is out of control. has been for many years. bunch of scumbags.

loophole being no way we can go after a few k cars and the court time Garda time. There would just be to many. That and it looks bad. At this stage will just have to accept a level of lawlessness in certain stuff. Insurance, tax all that.

Im starting to think that could actually be a thing. Comments I’ve heard on the radio today include the Irish people needing to ‘step up’ and a ‘call out’ going to the Irish people. Sounds ominous alright…..

All sorts of jobs advertised on Ukrainians Facebook pages. Many are likely cash-in-hand gigs with no reduction to the ridiculous social welfare payments Ukrainians are somehow immediately entitled to despite having shelter, food, medical cards, and whatever else looked after upon arrival.

I donated early on but it's not right any more. I've emailed relevant TDs to advise them that they won't be getting another vote off me.

    This country is fúçking mental.

Yep, it’s gone full on nutsville unfortunately. I doubt there is anything anyone can do or any way back.

pour politicians, treacherous NGOs and all cohorts will be remembered for decades for this.

Refugees who have just landed having more disposable income than working citizens who have grafted all their lives here. Talk of refurbishing vacant houses for Ukranians and other refugees living for nothing in A-rated houses that Irish cant get near. It's very hard to comprehend.

Free trave on public transport has ended, now they all have Leaps cards with 50+euro credit, who is paying for that?

Government being sneaky, end free travel, and give them loaded Leap cards?

Irish tax payer getting rode hard..................government going in dry!

The worst thing about this whole situation is that anybody who has any concerns is considered far right.

I have no doubts that they (the far right) are latching onto this issue. However, I voted yes for gay marriage and yes for bodily autonomy for women in the last two referendums so I can hardly be called far right. I still have serious concerns about the refugee policy implemented by the government at the moment though.

Guaranteeing every single refugee and asylum seeker own door acommodation within a few months was the first braindead move they made during a massive housing crisis.

Guaranteeing all those claiming to be Ukrainian refugees with no proof required (even though 70% were not Ukrainian in Citywest according to this far right source) full benefits, medical care, accomodation and all the above on a relatively long term basis was another incredibly intelligent move from an economic perspective.

Now we have an 'influx' as a few TDs have 'bravely' said and the Government and opposition are on radio stations looking for more hotels, B&Bs and hostels to try and kick the can down the road for another few weeks. I heard talk about the commandeering of Holiday Homes mentioned by some on National Radio. Student digs are on the menu too.

These concerns are not far right. They are genuine concerns about the road this Government are leading us down.

“Citywest” ?! They should be staying in “Bogwest” somewhere outside of the mad prices of dublin. What on Earth do they think we are all millionaires?

Would a family of 2 adults and 2 children in city West get 2 dole payments &2 child allowance payments and food?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,726 ✭✭✭Luxembourgo

This has been happening for years. Its just on a larger scale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,726 ✭✭✭Luxembourgo

Totally agree with this, and is pretty much my position.

Kicking the can down the road, avoiding decisions and wasting taxpayers money is standard for this countries politicians, opposition included.

Never deal with root causes, just throw money at symptoms

And Id say they are getting scallops and pidgeon for dinner every day as well. With white truffle oil.

As a matter of interest why did you donate. Surely it was obvious from the very beginning how ludicrous all this relocation was. it was the do gooders who supported this madness at the beginning that encouraged the government to take the crazy route that they did and that they now cannot control.
