Do people really need cash in this day and age with all the tech out there? Please don't start with "what about the old people" - they're not morons and anyone who thinks otherwise has an outdated view on life.

The way I see it, the less opportunity people have to "insist on cash" the better. Some of us get our wages taxed at source so can't dodge it. The cynic in me thinks that alot of the moaners are those who are doing said dodgy deals.

As for the post offices closing and "killing the village". If the highlight of your village is a post office, that's a pretty sh1tty place to live.

Finally...cash is disgusting. Every gowl who hasn't washed their hands from the jacks has rubbed off that fifty in your pocket.

My only gripe this week is that more places haven't gone cashless.

I don't always wash my hands after the jacks. My co*k is always clean so if I'm only taking a leak I don't need to wash my hands afterwards. Different story obviously if I'm after taking a massive scuttery dump that requires several rolls of bog paper to fully clean my botty afterwards.

I know nothing about farming but a Spanish friend's father is a sheep farmer and lives in the village so he somehow manages. You said the little interactions farmers have outside of the farm made life bearable. That is to say they are miserable on their farms and they only get respite in the town/village.

Well the AIB issue seems to be sorted for now.

On the subject I know people and the simple can't get there heads around cards, technology, etc. They've a basic Dora phone, Saorview, radio, use a map, etc. Some even tried to get into it and they couldn't.(It's great if your 88 year old granny has Revolt, does online shopping, etc).

If you find waiting in a queue whilst somebody gets out change to be a major inconvenience maybe you should move online and avoid shops in general.

The thread seems to be derailed now by the usual suspects.

Well there is one obvious difference between your buddy's Spanish village and the Irish one.

Ireland is a small country. When the gurriers from Dublin that can make it to Spain actually move there, they are concentrated in larger towns and cities in the Costa del Sol and other criminal hotspots. Whereas the less successful, and less intelligent ones, can only make it as far as a rural village in Ireland. So your Spanish farmer in the village doesn't have to deal with the one or two refugees from Dublin making sh1te of the place. Whereas the Irish one will

But it is complex.

The watch needs a battery,candy a network connection, so does the terminal.

The cash is far simpler.

Another poster says rather than being annoyed at the person trying to use their watch to pay I should be annoyed at the establishment for not having the ability to pay by watch available and/or properly configured.

That availability and configuration automatically makes it more complex than cash.

I'm not against the march of technology but anyone who suggets that cash should be phased out should be careful what they wish for.

Think of Government Policy:

1) make petrol/ diesel more expensive and use taxation to incentivise less use of private transport.

2) reduce services for many decades - close / relocate schools, garda stations, hospitals, banks whatever for many decades. Tell people they'll get better service in xyz town or city.

3) provide little or no public transport and oblige rural dwellers to drive to access services.

back to ....

1) make petrol/ diesel more expensive and incentivise less use of private transport through taxation.

2) .... rinse & repeat.

How do you figure that? Do you think I have never been there and met the people and been in their homes? Like most people in Ireland I have country cousins. Incredibly wealthy farmers and those with associated businesses. There is a reason I don't want to live near like people like that is because I know some. Never heard so many conspiracies from so many people in agreement. I also know their attitude towards government policies and view of Dublin.

The fact you see this as bringing to "heel" and a "victory" shows your views and also how naive you are . It is a temporary hold that is all.

You just don't get that taking cash in is not the only thing POS does. It is much more complex to deal with cash now just because you don't know anything about the back office functions doesn't mean they don't exist. The time wasted on cashing up is a hefty costs over time and dangerous to employees. There are lots of reasons tills moved over to not allowing the cashier into the cash drawer and if the electricity goes out they can't operate. Cash is on the way out it just a matter of time

Lol. You think this is a change in direction for AIB? They will trim and cut services instead, have a cash desk in name only. And when it's finally withdrawn they won't make an announcement about it, just quietly, one by one, close the desks.

It was a premature decision, some cracking very vibrant small villages, and towns in Ireland.

My sister lives in a small town/big village in rural Ireland Id live there within striking distance of Limerick so maybe that has something to do with it flourishing.
