The taxpayer is the ultimate backstop if the money can't be extracted elsewhere. No point getting mad about something that has to be done anyway and some of the proposals suggested, of loans and grants soften that cost a small bit.

The result of allowing shoddy building through the planning and regulatory process is going to cost 2.8 billion to fix just a portion of the built apartments.

It's not a culpability thing, that is clear but the lawyers will just roll in and can bog it down for years. Developers and the CIF are about the only possible target but money for this work will have to be upfront, i.e. the taxpayer. Getting a contribution will be like getting blood from a stone.
Its yet another housing disaster. We will be hamstrung with all the Mica and Repair costs as we enter a recession. That 2.8 billion would build a lot of new houses and apartments. The electorate must be astounded.

The Ukrainian refugee cost is also expected to be a big hit on finances over the next year or so. We can afford it, whether we should or not, and at worst it will force revisions on some spending plans.

Resignation and a rictus grin maybe. Any attempt to go down the accountability route will bring lots of lawyers. Developers are about the only ones who could be held responsible and how many of them are still around? IMO about all we can hope for is a very small contribution from that quarter. There may also be a level of mitigation through residents' contributions but otherwise the State ATM will be running 24-7 on this.
I understand completely now why you will vote for FFG no matter what they do. Some are blinkered but you are blindfolded. No doubt we will test your strange validation in future but happy to have compiled my list. Missing a few but that can wait.
So just take the hit is it? No attempt to follow those who profitted? No sign of them introducing legislation so that somebody can't just close down a company and pop up elsewhere and carry on? No accountability for those who signed off on the defects?

It's pointless suing the companies because regulation in general has been a clusterf*. They were allowed operate without the proper insurance cover. I told you at the time to research the issue properly before trying to get the government off the hook.
People have a problem with posting links to a Twitter account that clearly states is a satirical account, IE not deceitfully trying to peddle "fake news".
Some of these lads must have thought "spitting image" was a factual weekly fly on the wall documentary back in the 80s.
