Thanks, saw that alright but you're correct, too much bother, silly Solis not including a dongle, it's 2022!
Hey Guys,
I bought a new build recently which came with solar pv panels - looking for a way to monitor them and track what they are generating.
At the moment there is just a single din meter in the fuse box that has a total display.
Can anyone recommend maybe a wifi enabled meter and software that could replace this?
I was looking at something like this:
https://www.iammeter.com/products/single-phase-meter
I spoke to the installer and they just said:
"We used micro inviter’s on this system rather than a string inverter so there isn’t a suitable monitoring system available for monitoring here."
Cheers,
Tony
Look for a cheap CurrentCost CC128 type device. SSE Airtricity gave them away free of charge a few years ago. You might find one on Adverts or marketplace. Rebadged by many other power companies too
Few more for the list
Emonpi, owl energy monitor,
There's another one that a few people use here too with home assistant but the name is totally escaping me right now!
Shelly 3EM.
i am the installer, waiting for Solis to send and update on the fimware, let you know how it works out.
Using Micro-inverters per say doesn't rule out having telemetry. It can of course if the make/model doesn't support it, but many brand have excellent data logging, albeit you may have to purchase and additional data capture unit.
E.g. The Hoymiles and the enphase ones both have excellent logging.
(440) Enphase Review - Are Enphase microinverters any good? - YouTube (Skip 6 mins 50 sec out for an example)
Do you know the make/model of the micro-inverter ?
The CurrentCost CC128 has an RS232 port, so I have that linked to my RPi if I want to be grabbing info from it
I have one somewhere. Possibly over in my parents. Must dig it out. RS232 port was TTL levels iirc.
Does the CC128 handle export properly? The Geo Minim+ takes the absolute value of the CT reading, so it couldn't distinguish import from export.
What to do when going holidays with a hybrid system? turn off the battery and leave inverter cover base load and export?
Why not let the battery run? You'll still have overnight baseload
Shelly 3EM is for 3 phase, I guess the idea is that you use one for PV output, one for load point, one for grid?
Three phase, but you can also just monitor three individual circuits. @ECO_Mental has a pair of 3EMs monitoring six different circuits in his house, including PV.
yep I got that eventually after reading their docs :)
Thanks
@Jonathan and @Gerry I have actually got 3 No. ordinary ShellyEM's where you can log 2 circuits on each one so I am monitoring 6 circuits. But you can use the 3EM's to log 3 individual circuits not just 3 Phase. There is a lad on here though (cant remember the name) who got the 3EM to log 3 circuits. I only ordered two of them but Shelly sent me an extra one by mistake 😎 They are great and they got picked up straight away on Home Assistant. Need to be careful when installing them as you have to wire them into the consumer board.
@td2008 I would look into Home Assistatant (HA) for you energy monitoring but it requires a bit of computer work of setting up a Raspberry PI (or other options..) so you have to bit a bit computer savy...YouTube will teach you everything. But all the graphs and dashboards below are from HA and there is LOADS more you can do with it later.... I am no way near a computer programmer or have any computer background but its fun working to get it set up.
Ok guys. I got my solarman stick and somehow seem to have made an absolute mess. On solis cloud I now have a plant with no inverter and a stick that has a connection. Where is my inverter? 😭
How do I fix this? I have local access to the stick.
thank you. I have already gone with monitoring from the installer, goodwe homekit. I have shellys for my central heating and will be adding another for controlling immersion soon. getting the goodwe device setup in home assistant now, I might ask to borrow some of your config soon if thats ok?
Did you follow the unbind/replace data logger steps?
I did not :( I added the new stick, and then deleted the old one when I saw the stats were coming through. Then it all went pear-shaped. I'm not sure how to add my inverter again. Any ideas?
Not sure tbh. Add the S3 logger back again and then follow the replace logger procedure?
Or stick with the Solarman stick with HA for the weekend and contact Solis on Monday?
Tried that also and no luck. I do have it setup in HA which is nice. I'll call them on Monday I guess.
Heads up the built in speedtest integration doesn't return results as fast as the CLI/website due to a performance issue.
Hi, first time poster in this forum. I've just had a system installed, 12 x 400w panels, with eddi and 5.6kw battery. I just have a question as a newbie.
We're going on holidays and won't be needing hot water for the time away obviously, is there a way to stop it heating the water,m and just export any excess to the grid, or lower the max temp for the water to heat to while we're away. I'm not electrically minded and the manual is not giving new anything.
Any help is appreciated.
You can set the Eddi to stop mode, it'll be on but do nothing or alternatively there's a switch at the bottom - put that to off. If you have the app, just put it to stop mode in that. Easy!
So in stop mode, will it just fill the battery and export excess to the grid?
Yes that's exactly what it will do. Apart from covering the base load of the house or will report everything after the battery is full.
Just click on the Eddi icon in the myenergi app and click on the power stop button to cease water heating whilst you are away
Thanks for your answers guys 👍
Is it worth it to turn off the eddi for the small amount of electric it will save? The tank sitting unheated for a week or two ....
I'll be leaving mine running when away. The eddi will just be covering the heat lost so should be only a small amount per day.
I had mine turned off, but that was mainly because my cylinder didn't need any additional heat with the solar thermal.
However, surely better to be displacing some fossil generating capacity on the grid rather than losing heat to your hotpress for the week? Turn it on remotely the day before you arrive home.
