Hi,
just wondering if any boards members are going to the Open in St. Andrews in July?
And would anyone be interested in swapping tickets for days they can't attend?
cheers,
Sean
Six hours is due to shared greens and having to wait, you seem to have a bee in your bonnet about the old course, it’s holding its own.
They’ve dropped courses from the rotation before- time to do it again unless they do something drastic to course or equipment
As well as shared greens, they are having to wait because so many par 4's are driveable. Driveable par 4s should be the exception - in which case they provide novelty. Here the guys are hitting thru greens on par 4s with 3 woods, it's more the norm than novelty. And the players can spray it all over the place, some massive fairways and no rough. I get that people like the history and tradition, but is anyone actually claiming this is a decent/quality golf course? And if so, on what basis? Apart from some terrifying bunkers, I am not seeing too many qualities of the course that make it worthy of a major. Whether it is easy or not is a completely different discussion.
Yeah six hours is due to the course being completely incompatible with the modern pro game... You say it like you've pointed out a positive.
The only thing it's holding (up) is the length of a round.
I think folks are missing the point of St Andrews, is it the best course in the world, no, in Europe, no, in Scotland, no, around St. Andrews itself is even questionable.
But it's the only course in the world where all the greats have played and remains pretty much the same (apart from when they turned the course "backwards") since inception. Nowhere in the World does this exist. It defined the "out" and "in" you see on all your scorecards, it defined a golf course being 18 holes.
To coin a term, it is literally "hallowed ground", The Open is not at St Andrews this year, it has returned to St Andrews, the home of golf.
lot of armchair golfers on here, surely someone has played it
Nice encapsulation of a truly unique and special place. I still don't think a major should be played on it, but I can see why people think it should based on history and tradition etc.
Tyrell Hatton ages 30 years when he takes off his cap.
Sad watching Tiger out there, just not able for it anymore at this level, hopefully retires soon.
It depends if he can recover physically from the car accident to be able to play regularly, unimpeded. Nobody could compete playing four events a year.
Maybe they should go back to Prestwick- for the history
Interesting comment from the on course commentary.....often you're better not in the fairway with the way they have tucked the pins away, being in the rough gives the only angle that allows u to get at some flags.
Really like Laura Davies as a commentator.
It'll be broken with a day to spare.
Shane waiting on the 1st tee getting to see Tiger coming come. Special moment to witness.
Castleknock's David Carey flying it at 5 under with 5 to play. Could Mr. 57 do the unthinkable?
Just so sad to see Tiger playing like that. Hopefully he can improve his condition over the next nine months and come back a lot stronger.
What was his background before turning pro? Was he a good amateur, etc
Nick Faldo is pure Alan Partridge.
He totally is. The lack of self awareness is remarkable.
The waiting is actually ridiculous. Just watching Lowry's group on the app and they've been waiting on the 5th for about fifteen minutes and still sitting down. I thought the video was frozen when they were showing the leaderboard for so long.
I heard radar call him 'sir nick' yesterday when he was talking to him. I used to like radar before that...
Well it is Sir Nick Faldo. So he is calling how he should be addressed
If Sky would only stop constantly reminding us that she's a bloody 'dame'. David Attenborough recently added a second British knighthood to his sackload of gongs. He seems to be able to get along just fine without the BBC calling him 'Sir' at every turn. Sky should take note.
Keep commentator posts over here folks....

Smith better give others a chance
Rory wont be running away with anything , he hasnt won a major in 8 years!
Did I hear that Rory is getting help from sports physiologist Bob Routella.
Whats the new sky logo on the TV screen they interview players at and on the green microphone?
That's their sky zero thing, trying to push for more carbon neutral or something
