Yes, I had to do mine from that perspective.
Just be wary though because you'll have no idea of the structure of the department or the resources available to you.
I did, I work in a central department but went with TCAGSM and the Art and culture brief for my report. My own department didn't really fit any of the options and I felt this gave me some more scope and freedom.
I imagine some people will have to, if the options they are given don't match their current gig at all. There's no extra points for doing so though, if one of them relates back to your current department more directly!

Until you receive your brief I wouldn't worry about presentation prep and I'd spend any preptime on your competency examples and brushing up on your original application form. You are given plenty of time for presentation prep when the brief is sent
Would I be safe enough to assume if I researched civil service reform plan it might help with the presentation

If you are talking about the points within each goal I covered them all but I felt it resulted in everything being very vague. I don't know if it was the correct approach or if focusing on one in depth would be a better approach.
I got asked the same so I would second this. I had done bits and pieces but don't know how the answer came across.
How are people feeling about the presentation? I've mixed feelings personally, felt there wasn't enough information for the first section and then the opposite for the second section where there was too much to cover so my proposals were vague and didn't hold up too well. I also found it hard give concrete answers on the teams and resources as I had no idea what size of team I would be leading, or how the department is structured.
Are people sticking to their own department? I had to go with a different department, but am thinking now that I should have gone with an agency that falls under the umbrella of the department.
I’m trying to keep this as vague as possible but within each topic there are several sub topics, are you expected to hit all of them in the presentation?
I wonder how loose the connection has to be to the action
I’m having a similar problem. I work in a niche department which none of the topics apply to so I can’t approach it from the point of view as HEO in that department.
I’m wary of completely missing the mark completely if I approach it as a HEO from another department.

Three slides for a ten minute solo presentation is about 6 slides less than I would like.

I got asked if I'd done any independent research on my presentation which unfortunately I hadn't so I gave a bit of a stumbley answer, would definitely recommend tying in at least a small bit to your presentation

Correct, it's like an EO interview but with a slightly more aggressive back and forth nature to it. You'll be well able.

I also assume that when you mentioned interruptions they’re not just having you run through your star example but asking specific questions and you’ve to tie them back in to the example.

Is everything needed for the presentation included in material you’re given or is there some independent research needed?
The booklet recommends only spending 3/4 hours on it so I’d assume you’re given all the sources you need.
