Ah yes, that classic one!
That will NEVER get old...
No I didn't. I said we have no need to have defence spending demanded by NATO. There is a difference to wanting the defence forces to be properly resourced for what we expect them to do, which is not to be at the beck and call of geopolitical war gamers. The public and the government agrees. 'We will not be joining NATO anytime soon'.
There is nothing to defend. NOBODY was called a cockroach. You continue to lie that somebody did. All on you.
You have told us on a number of occasions that the Russians and Chinese aren't a threat to us, but that the British might be. And then you want to give them a veto on the use of our Armed Forces? It is a pathetic subservient post-colonial mentality that you are retreating into with that proposal.
Looking for and creating moral outrage beats discussing the record of government. A lot of nervous folk about with the day thats in it. The two wayward greens had the whip visit yesterday and today, so its interesting times.
FF and FG have cried about Sinn Féin stunt politics with its motion of no confidence and it only wastes time.
The govt have introduced a motion of confidence in themselves so they can talk for an extra hour.
It is plainly saying that they're scurrying around like cockroaches.
Dancing on a pinhead there.
The use of that word as an idiom should not be done.
We dont need a veto. Brain-dead to suggest otherwise.
Jennifer posts a vid of herself in a good light but gets told a few home truths by the public.
You couldn't write this kind of satire!
Not sure what this has to do with the fact that you made a U-turn on your original statement.
Just say you were caught out and move on.
Yes, I am sure it is perfectly acceptable to say that TDs of a political party are scurrying around like pedophiles and terrorists, and claim there is nothing wrong with saying that.
It is amazing the number of different accounts that have emerged to defend the cockroach allegation.
Thought the opposition parties were exagerating about how quickly legislation is being forced through before the summer holidays. The amendments to the planning and development act at the committee stage are 54 pages long. From what I can see they've allotted 2 and a half hours for the comittee stage and report stage tomorrow.
The original title of the bill was "An Act to amend the Planning and Development Act 2000 to provide for applications to be made to An Bord Pleanála in respect of development of lands where an application for substitute consent of development of those lands has been made, or in respect of development of lands adjoining those lands; to remove the requirement to apply for leave for substitute consent under Part XA of that Act; and to provide for related matters.
The amended title is: “An Act to amend the Planning and Development Act 2000; to provide that a person shall not advertise certain property in a rent pressure zone for letting for a period not exceeding 14 days; to provide for certain matters relating to Ministerial directions regarding development plans and local area plans and the related functions of the Office of the Planning Regulator; to provide for consultation before making applications for certain permissions for, and approvals of, the development of land and the maritime area in relation to details of such development that may not be confirmed at the time such applications are made; to provide for applications to be made to An Bord Pleanála in respect of development of lands where an application for substitute consent of development of those lands has been made, or in respect of development of lands adjoining those lands; to remove the requirement to apply for leave for substitute consent under Part XA of the Planning and Development Act 2000; to provide for certain matters relating to judicial review of decisions and acts of planning authorities, local authorities and An Bord Pleanála; to provide for the appointment of a chief executive designate to the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority and to provide for other matters relating to the maritime area, including matters relating to judicial review and rehabilitation schedules and for those and other purposes to amend the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021; to enable the Commissioner of Valuation with the consent of the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to revoke a valuation order in certain circumstances and for that purpose to amend the Valuation Act 2001; to extend the period within which a valuation list in relation to a rating authority shall be published and for that purpose to amend the Residential Tenancies and Valuation Act 2020; and to provide for related matters.”"
They seem to be dodging legislative scrutiny by just completely changing an act in its final stages with masses of amendments
I'd have thought you would know what a simile was blanch and wouldn't stoop to this one. You disappoint again.
Basic radar and air defences are not NATO-level spending Francie. Yet you seem to think it is.
Basically, you don't have a notion but have very fanciful notions about us invading the North to save the Nationalists.
It's not ideal, as I said. But it is the best we have got.
You want the freedom to send the army where you want...run the campign to do that or contact a political figure that will. That is what the people want (the Triple Lock) so be it as far as I am concerned.
This is an absolutely standard response by the government of the day and there have been dozens of them down the years.
Another vote for government
Independent TD Cathal Berry will support the Government in today’s motion of confidence, further strengthening the expected margin of victory in the Dáil vote.
In a statement issued this morning, Mr Berry said he was “satisfied that the increased defence investment being approved by Cabinet this morning represents a significant step in the right direction for our Defence Forces and our country”.
Exactly as I said. We need equipment that allows us to cope with the threats we are under. Which is not imminent invasion from any credible source.
You would make legal an 'invasion' (which I never suggested) into the North or anywhere else. The great FAUX PAS of the year! ROFL
Yes. As much as a 'stunt' that a MONC can be portrayed as.
Imagine trying to argue for someone calling people cockroaches on a government thread.
If you want to make snide little comments at least make them to the person. But that’s not your style is it?
Well, one good stunt deserves another and there is really nothing new, satirical or shocking in a government moving like this. It is standard government practice and it does highlight the whole pointlessness of it all.
NOBODY called anyone a cockroach.
Louth GAA 'promised' the money I assumed they would be
Exactly as I said. We need equipment that allows us to cope with the threats we are under.
But that is NOT what you said. In fact, you said that we should spend NOTHING on air defences.
No it doesn't.
If you believe it was a stunt...why would you be a hypocrite and pull one yourself?
Cop myself on?
Absolutely not. FF/FG have engaged in serious corruption which has led to the deaths and incarceration of many people. These days they're in the business of selling off our natural resources and housing to foreign landlords (one of the main reasons we sought our independence) just a decade or so after they organised an insiders bank bailout to the tune of 65,000 million euros which we're all still paying for.
FF/FG would rather be British than Irish - certainly act as if they're British rather than Irish.
No, the best we got is to have the Irish Government make its own foreign policy decisions and not be vetoed by the UK or Russians.
U Turn, are you feeling OK the only U Turn noted on this thread recently was the Greens U Turning on Turf,
Yet again latching on to a post that was self explanatory, Twist what was said, then request explanations, Badger and iin essence start talking to yourself for the afternoon. Have you any idea how impossible it is to engage with you, let alone understand a single point your trying to make, all the while deflecting, it's beyond tiresome.
Try and at least come up with a suggestion, Point of view on your own and perhaps folks might actually engage with you.
