In the South vote against housing on huge huge numbers.

Disgraceful carry on, the whole tax plan is a joke because they are covering up all of this. If people knew the actual facts we would see how far they would get
The “tax the rich” is also going to target every doctor in the country, think the HSE is bad now let’s see it with no staff in it
I asked before a poster on here about what SF have achieved in the 20+ years since the GFA in teh North. A poster who is on here 24x7 signing SF praises
Guess what the answer was, the only thing they could come up with? The parades commission or whatever it’s called. 20+ years and that’s it….
If anyone wants to see what SF are like in government, look at their performance in the North, look at their performance on Local Authorities in the South.
I presume you know why they opposed those housing developments, or do you?
Is that the only example you can come up with for their performance on Local Authorities in the South.
What about their performance in the North, any specific examples to share with me on that
In the words of our former President, wow
Can't find that, link please, not that I don't trust you but no harm to be sure
Fill us in on the facts so we can all know, what are their tax plans for doctors
You're like the guy who says, "Prove it to me that the moon landings were not fake"
Then when proof was given they say "Nah, that's fake too!"
Oops, so you haven't a clue, just bluster, no bother
Nah, go work it out yourself
seems to be someone who is defending SF but no idea why or what they are defending them for 😂
Another spoofer, who clearly hasn't a clue.
Why do people come out with stuff like this, do they think it makes them look knowledgeable or something. I'd be embarassed (and hiding under the duvet for a month) if I came out with some of the crap posted here, but it just doesn't seem to bother some people, they just keep going and going, I know it's an internet forum in which you can post any auld sh1te but still.
Edit: When I read back over that I could be at risk of mamma calling me in from the playground(again), we'll see
I'm not defending Sinn Fein (at least I didn't think I was), just challenging the crap being posted
In the past, SF did say they wanted to standard-rate the tax relief on pensions, which would be a substantial tax increase to most people contributing to pensions.
I am searching their 2020 GE manifesto for mention of these changes.
SF propose to:
reduce "excessive pension payments to Ministers"
cut TD pay by 25% to 75k
cut Ministerial wages by 50%
reduce the earnings-limit (115k now) and reduce the Standard Fund Threshold to 1.2m = 494m tax increase
The plan to standard-rate pension tax relief seems to be gone?
SF tax proposals that will affect doctors (2020 GE manifesto)
(1) taper out tax credits on individual incomes from 100-140k - tax credits are typically worth 3,300 per worker
(2) 5% income levy on individual incomes over 140k, this means a 57% marginal income tax rate
(3) tax relief available on pension conts based on earnings limit of 115k, SF want to cut this limit
and there may be more.............
Of course, if the doctor owns a house, they won't have to pay LPT anymore.
“Challenging”? How?
and what about all the alternative budgets they have announced?
SSJ, do you not understand alternative budgets?
I had a look at the 2022 alternative Budget:
Tax Revenue (€m)
Remove tax credits on a tapered basis on individual incomes above €100,000 = 232m
Introduce a 3% solidarity tax on individual incomes above €140,000 = 176m
Abolish the Special Assignee Relief Programme = 42m
Introduce a 40% CGT rate on individual incomes above €500,000 = 28m, I don't get this, CGT is not an income tax, why the reference to incomes?
Increase CAT rate to 36% & reduce Group A Threshold to €300,000 = 43m
Increase Stamp Duty to 2% and 5% on residential properties above €700,000 and €1 million respectively = 40m
Introduce a 2nd Home Charge at a rate of €400 = 92m
Introduce a Wealth Tax at a rate of 1% on net wealth held above €1 million = 129m
Remove the Help to Buy Scheme = 126m
Increase Employers PRSI by 2.2% on portion of salaries above €100,000 128
Reduce tax subsidies on gold-plated pensions by reducing the Standard Fund Threshold to €1.5 million and the Earnings Limit to €60,000 = 387
What is a "gold-plated " pension?
I had missed the reduction in the earnings limit to 60k, that is a huge change, and is a big tax increase on many workers.
Extend the Banking Levy 150
Increase Stamp Duty on commercial property to 12.5% while relief for farming 300
Increase Excise Duty on a packet of cigarettes by 30c 33
Total 1,906 Net Tax Revenue 1,475
The proposal to standard-rate all pension tax relief seems to be gone?
But I see now a proposal to reduce the earnings limit on pension tax relief to 60k.
That is a tax increase on many workers, including many public servants.
Will be interesting if they follow through with those cuts to td/ministers pay when they actually run enough candidates to win an election
Of course we know why they opposed those housing developments.
If they let FF and FG solve the housing issue, then they won't be able to get into government on the back of ordinary people's misery, so they cynically oppose every single largescale housing development.
I'd have my doubts they will, might be legally challenging to do it for TDs (whatever about ministers) elected at the next election, could bring it in for the subsequent election of course, if they are in power. Silly suggestion anyway, saving relatively little and pay peanuts you get monkeys (although we are paying a reasonable salary now and getting many monkeys)
Sinn Fein have cleverly hidden their plan to apply a 3% net pay cut to every public servant in the country. Currently, all public servants get tax relief on their pension contributions, but Sinn Fein are pledging to abolish this, so the end result that an ordinary nurse or an ordinary teacher will see a 3% cut or thereabouts as a result.
Link please, I presume you're not spoofing
There is no spoof, that was SF policy, I remember it well.
EDIT: blanch152 may be a bit confused, the SF proposal was to reduce tax relief, not abolish it.
Whether it is still SF policy, I'm not sure.
That's what I am trying to establish by looking at alternative Budget plans.
By the way, the SF plan to reduce tax relief on pensions to 20% standard rate would affect many workers, not just PS.
I suppose blanch152 mentions PS, as all PS must join a pension scheme, and most PS pay substantial pension conts.
Would an existing SF TD, with family, mortgage, etc., be happy to take a 25% pay cut?
Its like the tax credits dropping form 140k to 100k and nobody said anythibg
They got away with it last time so next it will be down to 80k
The pension tax is trying to screw loads of people, funny thing is people are lapping it up, then when they are losing thousands they will complain….
I have a sneaking feeling, based on the last line, that you have the wrong end of the stick (again)
They won’t, it’s just noise.
TD etc have mortgages taken out based on wages, including SF ones, if they suddenly take such a huge drop they risk losing their house.
Also SF by the looks of it won’t be in government on their own, fully expect whichever poor party decides to jump in with them will take the blame for them not implementing that
