Thanks for my chainsaw
What do people use to split logs that are cut too big? I had something like this but don't think it was brilliant:
Can't find it now so need to get a new one.
They have them on Screwfix and splitting mauls etc. 10% off at the moment using GDN10 code.
They also have this
Titan TTB762LSP Corded Brushless 37cm Log Splitter 1.5kW | Log Splitters | Screwfix.ie
Anyone on here used that log splitter?
I've some leylandii full of knots at some that need something like this I'd say.
Works well and a decent price for it too.
Ya I've used Finglas fuels before and their kiln dried stuff was good. Air dried... Not so good... understandably...., would want to stack them near your stove/heat a couple of days before use. Although might be good to stick them in a dry shed now for this winter.
Their coal was fairly decent too (better than Stafford's I thought) the neighbor recognised the bags from Donegal, whatever that means.
These guys in Palmerstown are a bit cheaper.
https://www.shawfirewood.ie/kiln-dried-logs never tried them though
Thanks, good to hear you were happy with the kiln dried from Finglas fuels. Were the logs of themselves a good size, ie 25cm long but not in massive chunks that need to be split?
I contacted them and they said they would deliver to me outside county Dublin for an extra 30 euro which is reasonable. Meaning a 2m3 crate of oak would cost me 475 total. I reckon I'l go with that as Im unlikely to find cheaper delivered and prices are likely to rise further. I just gotta get the log store sanded down and varnished before I order as its empty now and its needs doing before a delivery comes in.
The wood I got didn't need to be chopped, there were the odd few big blocks, but they all fitted in the stove.
They burn quick enough so we were mixing with briquettes and a bit of coal to slow it down a bit.
I've used them. Have only bought the large bags rather than the crates but it was good quality.
Was it proper kiln dried stuff?
I was thinking of driving over and chucking a builders ton bagsworth into the boot to save o n delivery.
Anyone use Rocket Blaze? Where do you get them? Eco Logs have no stock.
Have burned half pallet of them. Very easy to light, very hot but tend to burn quickly if you don't mind the draft. Where to get?? Eco Logs out of all stock for good while now.
Eco Logs might be closed this time of year. Sent a message but no response.
Looks like the Rockets are no more.
Anyone burn a Pini Kay log they are happy with?
I always thought Rocket Blazers and Pini Kay were the same. They certainly look similar.
I have always burned Rocket Blazers and would highly recommend them. I did try a sample of the Flamers brand, their version with the center hole but the Rocket Blazer was better.
I think finglas fuels 2m crates for 445 are a mix of oak and ash .
I'd double check with them before ordering .
The website says oak and ash not oak or ash .
Palmerstown place above says oak or ash .
It seemed to be. Burned well anyway.
I'm going to get an outdoor store for the wood. Think the shed is a little bit damp and as there's no breeze in there, some of my wood last year had small amounts of mould.
Anyone store it outside and have recommendations?
Make one from pallets 👍🏻
Thanks for pointing that out, Id read it as a choice of oak or ash not both mixed together. Will probably still go with it as I think ash burns pretty hot and long. Just got to get the log store sanded down and covered with a couple of coats of varnish, hopefully the supposed heatwave at the weekend will be the time to do it
Bought a load of oak. Would it be within the realm of possibility that I got a different wood? I'm wondering because I have got oak a number of times before and this latest load looks different. It is much lighter in colour and doesn't have the distinctive oaky smell. It has a smoother bark, too.
Maybe there can be some variance.
Take a picture if you can.
Here's a few pics. Don't know if they say much, colour is not like it is in reality, at least on my screen.
First four are the new logs, last one is oak I got previously.
Yes it's highly possible you got different wood. Looks more like ash than oak. Fiddler you get off a certain company in Galway by any chance
I was afraid of that.
Kildare.
Forgot pic of the bark... looks thin compared to the bark on the genuine oak.
That looks like oak alright. Definitely not ash. Nice looking timber.
That’s definitely oak.
Glad to be getting opinions that it's oak. Can one load of oak look different to the next?
It’s 100% oak
Came across this...
