Why would anyone leave west cork.
North Cork toughness built in.
Jeez. I’d a Packo years back and it never gave a spot of bother. It was an ice bank though. I did say it was a while ago!
I’ve three Swedish built tanks and they just work. I’ll post the name in the morning.
They’re made in Kanturk right?
Inbreeding?
I'm just told I'm very unfortunate with the tank I got.
😃😄
They were up to recently. Eastern Europe now.
I get the odd issue with ours but nothing like yours. I got mine around the same time as yours, think they were a new generation of there tanks and they do have some issues
How soon would you mow it before the cows. 24 hrs?
Small alright considering the inputs and milking all year around.
Yes. We have 24 hour paddocks and split them for 2 milking. Usually mow the whole paddock at 4, put up strip wire, milk at 5 and give the rest in the morning. Works a treat for us. Trick is to have mower at 2 inches off the ground. Great recovery for grass
I do the exact same. Works well. However I notice that if you don’t get rain within a few days the regrowths can be poor if the ground is very dry.
Agree, Too many lads reading the gospel according to teagasc. Funnily enough I'd have pre mowing ahead and topping a last resort, Pre mowing here and very happy with results, Paddocks returning stronger, Little waste and much less **** flying
There's no way that you guys pre mowing are cutting 1300 covers..There's no way you guys are pre mowing the grass at its maximum potential.....You're covering up bad management...
So there 😁😁
It's all well and good if u have a worker or a father around. But it can be time consuming onto of diesel consumption. Aesthetically it looks good tho...
Locally There are a few farms that never top a field but there highly stocked with a rotation less then 20days and not sparing the bag
Came out of this field this morning. Good clean out but bit of dirt too. Feel that the topping is a waste of time and grass but the aftergrass definitely helps the milk. Then again you need a bit of fibre in the diet too.
You'd mow a paddock in half an hour, I did it the last round and found it much better than topping, no point in letting cows into hairy paddocks and then wonder why they're bawling to come out, at least if it's mowed they'll clean everything out of it.
Tank.
Pre cooler. Excellent cooler and totally trouble free. No matter what the temperature is, the milk never hits the tank at over 11*C.
That’s why I’d leave premising as last resort ….it hits production and solids too hard
Didn't notice any difference here to be honest, but my cows wouldn't be doing the sort of litres yours would.
Mueller here. Great job. Had packo once but went back to Mueller. Never heard of the precooler. Plate coolers aren't great.
It doesn't hit production hard here either. We find the added fibre from the bit of wilt increases the fat a bit. Production drops if it's standing hay and all stem, sure that's good for nothing anyways
How about protein ….the year I did a bit yield dropped and proteins dropped over 0.1
Back when we had all the cows at home and very heavily stocked the tank used to be under fierce pressure. Bought a secondhand ice builder off an icebank tank and piped the iced water to a second plate cooler. great job.
Not really. We don't pre mow the whole year, when the grass gets strong or there are big thumbs around the cow Pat's, that's when pre mow.
I was talking to the smaxtec salesman the other day. Sounds like the best system I think. Maybe someday
I’d highly recommend going for some sort of heat detection and health system. Worth every penny imo
Hard to justify for a smaller herd but probably worth it for the peace of mind. I'd get it in a heartbeat if it meant I could get rid of the bull but I know lads with the system and they say you still need a bull.
