My Turf Stove is 90% efficient retains heat for hours, Central heating takes an hour to heat up and a few minutes to loose its affect when switched off.

But of course, actually I feel for those dependent on Kersosene this winter, currently 2.5 times the price it was in 2020.
Does he realise that there's a war in the Ukraine and sanctions have caused massive increases in fuel prices. As an overpaid politician, that may not affect him but it is a very real problem for the electorate including those who voted FFG.

Home heating oil is used correctly in combination with insulation etc is an excellent way to heat a home. Burning turf is not
For such a small percentage of people dependent on turf it has a huge affect on our atmosphere. The sooner it is banned the better. 4% can be looked after by the SEAI. Everyone else who don't have cutting right can switch to alternatives better for environment

The press and opposition have been spinning the turf story for months, apart from the fact both FF and FG said as far back as 2019 they would be banning turf as part of the green agenda for each party. The only question ever was to ban now during the war or after.
The "Ryan war on turf" is such waffle and hilarious to see the opposition pushing this. 4% of the population use turf for heating, the rest might burn it but they have alternatives. Also the "ban" on turf still would allow people with plots to extract turf they just couldn't resell it. So how many of that 4% would be actually affected.
Turf will be banned, the sooner the better as far as I am concerned. If they need to delay till the end of war so be it but it should be automatically banned after that.
Anyone declaring this a "war on rural" Ireland hasn't a clue what they are talking about. Rural Ireland has more people on heat pump than depending on turf so electricity is a bigger issue.
The government should be spending more time on alternative heating sources and options for households than getting bogged down on this bullsh**e. If the 4% don't have an alternative to turf then upgrade the house, everyone else who uses turf, if they dont have rights to cut turf then tough luck. Use all the alternatives that are readily available.

It is a cultural thing. That's what fundamentalists like Ryan don't understand. Most FFG TDs understand this. The problem is that FFG is still dependent on Green votes. If Labour (always a grotty bunch who were more interested in ministerial salaries and pensions than policies) had done as well as its supporters in the media had wanted, it might have been an FF/FG/Labour government. The problem with dealing with ideologically driven parties like the Greens in such a situation is that these smaller parties have a stranglehold over government policies.

Not the kind of interview that would be seen on Our Friends In The Dail (aka The Week In Politics). Aine Lawlor tried to present the FFG angle and was demolished. Even the Leo The Leak question failed. RTE is going to have a serious problem with SF if it gets into government after the next GE. SF is just completely out of RTE's class when it comes to spin.
That mica issue, along with the turf war, is going to hit FFG hard. Though SF may not succeed with the MNOC, FFG may be facing a lot of internal disquiet. The leadership challenge against Martin seems to be underway in FF. Very good point, I'm from Dublin originally and know many locals who've family impacted by Ryan's Brain fart, living nowhere near turf banks, but come visit relatives regularly affected by this nonsense and are as infuriated as much about the attack on rural Ireland as they are about a Turf Ban.

Must be rather frustrating for Leo, looking at the coverage re the DPP decision, you'd think it would be thrilling news, people would just move on, forget about this rather long and protracted affair.
Without exception, the reporting and indeed impressions given mention the end of the Prob but primarily focus on the long term damage its done, he retains that oft used Name and the narrative, overwhelming one of, Yeah, But, No, But yeah.

To explain it in simple terms for the FFG supporters, it is not the dinosaur politicians in FFG that count but rather the people who vote for them. (A bit Hemmingwayish but it is a valid point.)
Some of those voters are affected by Ryan's turf brainfart and many of those voters will have family members who are affected by it. That means that their vote for the FFG dinosuar politicians are not guaranteed and some of these FFG dinosaur politicians could lose their Dail seats as a result of Ryan's war on turf. They realise that they may be turfed out.
